In the past years the state of the Black person globally has become paramount on my mind. I have observed that wherever Black people are, whether it is Australia – among the Aborigines, Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, or North America, we seem to belong at the bottom of the pile, or the bottom of the pyramid, economically, socially, physically, mentally, etc. It makes one ask several questions: What is responsible for these 2,000 years of “Black backwardness”? Why do we seem to fail even where we are in the majority? Is the Black man victimized; and is he a victim of his own circumstances, pathologies, or of other people’s opinions and decisions? Have Blacks always been this way? Are we descended from “Kunta Kinteh” or from kings? If Blacks are not cursed, what did they do to deserve almost 2,000 years of oppression, lack, etc? What is responsible for Africa being the richest continent and yet inhabited by the poorest people? If Black means only one sixteenth of skin, why are Blacks un-able to overcome the “victimitis” or pressure that comes with it? Is there a conspiracy to keep Blacks at the bottom? Why do Black nations constitute the biggest borrower nations? If Blacks are not cursed, is their land cursed? Africans are religious by nature, and where they have become Christians they have been committed. Why are they still not making progress? Why is there such a gap between White dominated and Black dominated nations? What are the pathologies responsible for the state of Blacks in different settings? Can there be healing to the atrocities committed against Blacks in the past? Some African nations have the highest number of educated citizens, yet Africa in modern times has not contributed significantly to discoveries or inventions. What is the future of the Black person? If there is a future, what is the key to that future? When will the Black man’s day of manifestation come? http://www.whatswrongwithbeingblack.com/index.html

@ MP007: I didn't read through your entire post (I didn't need to).
There's absolutely nothing wrong with being black. I don't consider myself superior to any other race.
At the same time, I don't consider myself inferior either.

On my mind there won't be any peace and happiness in the world till everybody realizes that we are all the same, independent from skin colour, ethnicity, social background, religion, attitude and education. We're all humans and my greatest wish is that this idea comes to everybody's mind. The world would be so much better, life would be so much easier for everybody and each nation could benefit from the experiences and advantages that the other nations have. I can't really agree why most people in the world didn't realize that yet. It's sad and narrow-minded.
Last weekend i went to an african disco here in dortmund and after a while an indian guy sat next to me and asked: "Do you like black guys or why are you here?" I had to laugh, though i agreed why he asked me this question. But i answered: " No, i like ALL people. " He was so confused that he didn't even know what to say. Why? Why is that so extraordinary? I think treating people inequal is kind of racism. Even if this form is accepted and usual everywhere. I hope one day people won't have any reason to teach their children the meaning of the word "racism",
Have a nice day all together cheers

the problem with being black is unity, in fighting amongst each other is the reason the whites suceeded in knowing where the path in the bush were from the riverbank to carry black people away in chains in fighting is the reasons why 30% of all slaves taken away passed through and with the connivance of the efiks in nigeria in fighting is how they colonial masters suceeded with the divide and rule plaguing africa till date same thing in america afro american against africans e.t.c if we could learn to be united we would conquer the world and be even more powerful than pharaoh was

You raise several interesting points, MP007. Let's take a look at a few, shall we? In the past years the state of the Black person globally has become paramount on my mind. I have observed that wherever Black people are, whether it is Australia – among the Aborigines, Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, or North America, we seem to belong at the bottom of the pile, or the bottom of the pyramid, economically, socially, physically, mentally, etc. I trust that you will allow me to emphasize certain points. I don't think that any one group "belongs" at the bottom with respect to any of the areas you note. Why? Because none of those designations or situations is dependent or contingent upon being Black (in this case). Is the Black man victimized; and is he a victim of his own circumstances, pathologies, or of other people’s opinions and decisions? What are the pathologies responsible for the state of Blacks in different settings? Yes, Blacks have been victimized, both of their own circumstances as well as those of others. Blacks have NOT, however, been victimized because of pathological differences. Such differences do NOT exist in any manifestation which would allow such occurences, as has been determined in repeated studies. Are we descended from “Kunta Kinteh” or from kings?
We are the descendents of both, just as any other people are. No society ever allowed and no culture ever produced exclusively kings or slaves. There has always been, is and shall always be persons of "greater" and "lesser" standing among a people. And, let's not forget that there is no shame in being descended from slaves. After all, it was slaves who built the United States from a fledgling nation to one of the most powerful countries the world has ever known. And their descendents are still going strong, but now in other "fields." The financial field. The political field. The entertainment field. And the list goes on. If Blacks are not cursed, what did they do to deserve almost 2,000 years of oppression, lack, etc? Is there a conspiracy to keep Blacks at the bottom? If Blacks are not cursed, is their land cursed? To suggest that a land or a people are cursed is to suggest a conspiracy. Even the weakest conspiracy theory needs some evidence, and in this case, there is none. Africans are religious by nature, and where they have become Christians they have been committed. Why are they still not making progress? This assumes (and, with no disrespect to the faithful, it does so wrongly) that Christianity--or any other religion--is the sole solution to the issues. How, then, are China and India, for example, overcoming their respective situations and raising their standards of living, as well as their economies overall? Can there be healing to the atrocities committed against Blacks in the past? The past must never be forgotten, but one cannot dwell upon it too much. When driving a car, one occasionally uses the rear-view mirrors, but one mostly looks ahead. We do that not so much to see where we're going, but to determine where we want to go. Healing occurs at its own pace. The future of Blacks is now and it's what we choose to make of it. Blacks everywhere have a heritage of cultural, intellectual and artistic richness that is, truly, second to none on the planet. It all started in Africa because Man, himself, started in Africa. My apologies for the length of this post, but before closing I wish to address your initial question: What's wrong with being Black, you ask? Not a thing, my friend. Not a thing.

the only wrong with being black is if your mind tells you there is something wrong with being black. Very well said, SENATOR JD! Which is another point deserving attention. Very often, it is believed that just because something (or, in this case, somebody) is different it is, de facto, better (or worse) than that to which it is being compared. And, of course, nothing could be further from the truth. That which is different is just that-- different. A maple tree is different from an oak tree--each has things about it that distinguish it from the other. Likewise, they are very similar in many more ways than they are different. Neither, however, can be said to be greater or lesser than the other. So it is with people. Given that such is the case, I reiterate that there is nothing wrong with being Black (or being a member of any other "group"). What is wrong is the perceptions of people who think that there is something wrong with those who are.

@chiogo: Thank you for your kind words! I realize that the post was rather lengthy, so I'm certainly appreciative that you took time to peruse it.
I might have thought that this thread would have continued somewhat, as I'm sure that there is, indeed, much more to be said about the topic. In fact, I'D like to read some more input, either pro or con. Much more needs to be discussed about this, so let's see what can be come up with!

One thing wrong with black people is Mpele.
What he stands for. He has been well brainwashed to hate himself and anything black. Much like kimbo in Uncle Tom's cabin. The fact he is like a mongrel (mutt) with black and white mixed is killing him. He wishes he could annex the black aspect of him. The part more noticeable is what he is ashamed of.
