Mine cost 170,000 naira  at Ikorodu,Lagos, in 2006 and you will need to buy plastic tanks and pipe to connect the the tanks. you will also need a generator to power it when there is no electricity.

@all
You guys need to read the posts from agerho

Water treatment specialists are a lot like doctors. You cannot give concrete info until an examination. You can only really give a budget based on expected flowrates, soil types etc. I do not know jack about boreholes but my speciality is water treatment.

Unfortuneately, educated, intelligent people in Nigeria still prefer to consult plumbers as against seeking professional advise. There is so much information onthe internet but we no wan gree!!!

@agerho
We support people like you who work with "small" clients. Check out our website www.seindeo.com if you require specialized treatment equipment/analysis.

Thanks fotodaddy

@fotodaddy
We are not bypassing water professionals at all, what we are simply doing is have people share their experience on the topic. People who have had
similar project done can share their experience in terms of price, cost, location and anything else they will like to share. Why are you so call professionals always get nervous on nairaland when people are trying to share their knowledge on various things.

Dear Nairalanders,
I appreciate everybody's contribution on the subject of bore hole drilling. I missed the issue at the beginning but followed every comment and reply. I am a facilities maintenance engineer ( please don't ask what that means ). I have  dug wells for a lot of client  but recently i consulted with AGERHO on a new proposal i was preparing for a bore hole  and i found this fellow admirable and competent  . I will strongly advice everybody  wishing to do a bore hole to talk to him. He is  the busy stuff so trapping him is not always easy. Technically , he is the kind of person you will be comfortable with.

cheers

I like the opinion of the last post. Many of this thing we talk about on this forum is just to educate ourselves ant to have the idea. If you are realy serious you can get somebody or two different proffessionals in this field, speak with them and let them give you a quote. You must also have it in mind that constructing a bore is a serious issue because of the difference in land profile which can be different within just a range of 500meters. I have a bore hole driller that works with me. you can contact me on 08029478202. i think this have been discussed enough we need to see some action

Why do boreholes collapse in Lagos

Borehole failure can be described as the instability of subsurface strata due to inadequate compaction and inability of the bored well to perform up to its installed capacities.
This is due to
1 Low quantity of cement materials (clay) and inadequate compaction
2 High hydraulic conductivity of the concerned  loose layer
3 Vibration of the ground from adjacent vibrating source.
4 Excessive withdrawal from adjacent well.
5 Wrong screening of the pipe and use fake water pump etc
NOTE: This is also applicable to basement complex areas like Ibadan , Ilorin, Akure, Ondo etc

Why do you need geophysical survey before drilling a borehole

Although one can come across water at any depth in a sedimentary environment like Lagos (the reason for so many “successful” shabbily executed shallow holes in Lagos) however there is more to borehole drilling and construction than just locating the depth to water table.
Geophysical exploration helps in locating region of abnormal water potential (high hydraulic conductivities) hence give information about the subsurface region that is prone to possible collapse. It helps to demarcate fresh water and salt water boundary especially in places close to the coastal region of Lagos (Lekki and environ). It particularly differentiates between regional water table (main aquifer) from perched or local water level which are usually polluted and inadequate for prolong use. Etc

SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS
1. Contact, consult and/or contract only experts in the field from project conception to execution.
2. Have a clear and deep understanding of the geology of the area (your site) before developing a site plan or erecting permanent structures (ensure your soak away is not sited on the best and only aquifer with your site or neighbourhood).
3. Carry out detailed geophysical appraisal of the proposed site to reduce future wastages and ensure   engineering and architectural best practices.
4. Use well formulated drilling mud during construction of borehole to prevent failure.
5. Insist on having a project report with drillers/well log for convenient and smart borehole maintenance.
6. Beware of quack Doodle buggers or ensure you have a maintenance commitment/agreement if you must use one.

we nairaland seems to meet the major pts of the starter  ot this topic. gettin a driller is not a problem but getting things done the proper way is the main thing. a good borehole with a mater touch of an exper would cost you nothting less than 250k in Ajah arera of Lagos. certain technicality would bee taking into consideration and besides your bore hole would last longer and free services wuold be provided on the borehole for a period of a year. if yuo are intrested in a good and rlaible souce of water supply you can contact me  through this e-mail adress  Smileygeosegun@yahoo.com
