My Life Is Amazed
« on: December 16, 2007, 12:06 AM »

Hmmm! Yes my life is amazed the way i look back. I am gratefully and thankfully to my parent who sent me special school early at age 3.

By the time you read this, i bet you did not know me well.

I am truly profoundly deaf since age 18 months old. It caused by wrong ear infection medicine that destroyed inner nerve. At that time my parent were poverty not able to afford me sending school, my major hospital sponsored paying fully tuition for me all the way from pre-school to university. Today my parent are working class nearly retired age---one of them still working while the other is permanent disability under the doctor's order no longer employed.

Yes, i do wear a pair of hearing aids behind my ears with my shoulder-length hair covered. Yes of course my school provided me speech therapy to learn how to talk properly. My voice is not 100% perfect only family members understand me perfectly.

I am uniquely God-given gifted and talented to have my capability of exhortation, teaching, and serving with technically, creativity, and problem-solving more efficiently and accurately, professionally.

Yes, of course I am divorced single mother of two children that I am proud of raising them myself. I cannot believe that my children now about entering grown adults. First child already is grown adult at age 19 but the last 2nd child at age 14 will be grown adult in 3 more years to go.

Finally everyday in my whole life, lot of people underestimated thought me look 20 years younger, fresh out from college, never been married, never have children---but they are wrong. Everyone could not believe me when i told them revealed. Lot of them asked me what is my secret of being young. I ain't tell.

Sometimes i accepted criticized so harshly but i don't tolerate, because they do not know what they are doing. Very few thought I was scammer, very few thought i was somewhat foreign---because of my grammar structure. They have forgotten that my English is my second language, SIGN LANGUAGE is my first language. In the US, sign language is UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE acceptable.

Thank God that my life is so amazing everyday as long as I live and breathe so fresh like a rose that blossom. Wow, my children grow up so fast turning grown adult soon. Thank God!

Dating a hearing guy is over-rated
« #2 on: December 18, 2007, 02:45 AM »

Yes, dating a hearing guy is over-rated to me.

In my lifelong dream since my childhood, i always yearned for marrying a hearing husband. Now, in the reality, it does not happen. The same reason where white men/black women who married does not lasted up to 3 years.

My ex-husband is deaf, getting married him was not my idea. That was my mother who forced me into marriage that does not lasted 5 years. Because she was worrywart, paranoid, and overprotective about my deafness how to raise my first baby when i was pregnant during college senior year (4 months left to graduate) and does not believe in wedlock.

My mother always forgot that i have special alert device with the lamp flash for baby crying, doorbell, phone ringing, fire alarm as well as wearing pair of behind-the-ears hearing aids.

It is not fair to my sister, who is hearing, got pregnant after secondary school graduation---my mother did not force my sister to get married. I felt myself INSULT, just because I am deaf and my sister is hearing! But I graduated college to have full-time job, have my own car and settle down my own apartment. My sister just graduated from high school and drop out college because of baby.

Dating deaf guy is OUT OF QUESTION, because their education and communication level are way way way below than my level. Most of them are drug addicts, jobless, alcoholic and rely on government assistance. The MAJORITY OF DEAF READING LEVEL in the USA are 3-5th grade despite of their age between 21-55. Most of them are mentality (hearing haters/bashing), and deaf clingy to deaf world---no idea about facing and afraid of going jobs in a hearing world.

I grew up attending to white predominated hearing school with special deaf education starting at age 3 to 13. I was only one black deaf student among white deaf classmates all my life. Until I transferred to deaf residential secondary school at age 13 that was my FIRST CULTURE SHOCK seeing so many deaf students multi-cultural from all over the world. Most of them cannot speak well UNLIKELY ME, most of them are not really smart UNLIKELY ME. They deaf students never been to hearing school before, bec they grew up in a deaf board school with dormitories all their life at age 5-18 sending by their parents. (90% deaf children raised by hearing parents out of 10% of deaf children raised by deaf parents)

Most deaf board school do not provide speech therapy to teach deaf students learning how to talk properly. I was lucky enrolling in hearing school provide required speech therapy program.

For example those deaf guys at age 35-55 whom I dated with is very much the same as 15-18 years old hearing boys, because those deaf older guys NEVER BEEN HANG OUT with hearing men/buddies/brothers- - -just imitate hearing guys what deaf guys saw on TV or movies trying to impress girls- - - BIG TURN OFF!!!!

Finally, i was told by few hearing guys from online dating site where I registered on 2 weeks FREE TRIAL PERIOD 8 years ago, they CANNOT HANDLE WITH deaf woman they do not wish learning the sign language in the quality of communication needed, that is too much for them. I think that was their lame excuses even though they all know that I can speak well to communicate with hearing person without using sign language. THAT WAS THEIR LOSS, MY GAIN (blessing)!

They wanted me as casual relationship or no string-attached benefit! Not for me! They said that I have nothing wrong with me in a relationship, I WAS PERFECT PACKAGE for them but DEAF is one flaw for them.  Undecided  (77 men overall I date during 2 weeks trial---they all enjoyed chat and FEW did dating out with me in person locally in the public places with crowded surrounding---each eight different dating sites upon 2 weeks trial period expired for 8 years)

Now i am not seeking for one. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

I Ponder...
« #3 on: January 18, 2008, 06:03 AM »

I ponder myself everyday almost 15 years since my finalized divorce, Hmmm!!! Huh

Is this really exist that a hearing black guy have a fanasty or yearn to date a deaf black lady that will blossom into marriage?

I feel like it is hard to find a needle on the haystack!!! It is hard to understand why can't hearing black guy date black deaf lady. Also most hearing black guys REFUSE TO LEARN more about deaf culture and sign language in order to be able to communicate with deaf woman as optionally. They say it is too much extra baggage!!! Not fair they can learn other foreign languages such as Russia, Africa, Italy, France, etc. Sign language is a universal language. Undecided

I have seen lot of white hearing guys accepts dating deaf women or vice versa with any races: black, white, asia, whatever it is. Why is that?

Finally, in my mind, i say THIS IS 2008, TIME FOR CHANGE, stop prejudice among deaf black women where hearing black guy reject for dating or getting married!!! Giving deaf black women some LOVE!!!

Most of them are government assistance receiptants called Social Supplment Income (SSI)---the similar to welfare program only for poor people. Only 30% of them are fully employed?

  • Most of their reading level are 3rd-5th grade at grown adult age. All of them are completed high school graduates. Very few of deaf people are naturally talented/gifted to be able to read at 8th grade through college level?

Deaf Poem: What Is It Like To Be Deaf?

Deaf Poem: What Is It Like To Be Deaf?

Dianne Kinnee (Switras)
Source: http://www.deaf-center.org/being_deaf.htm
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"What is it like to be deaf?"
People have asked me.
Deaf? Oh, hmm,  how do I explain that?
Simple: I can't hear.

No, wait,  it is much more than that.
It is similar to a goldfish in a bowl,
Always observing things going on.
People talking at all times.
It is like a man on his own island
Among foreigners.

Isolation is no stranger to me.
Relatives say hi and bye
But I sit for 5 hours among them
Taking great pleasure at amusing babies
Or being amused by TV.
Reading books, resting, helping out with food.

Natural curiosity perks up
Upon seeing great laughter, crying, anger.
Inquiring only to meet with a "Never mind" or
"Oh, it's not important".
Getting a summarized statement
Of the whole day.

I'm supposed to smile to show my happiness.
Little do they know how truly miserable I am.
People are in control of language usage,
I am at loss and really uncomfortable!

Always feeling like an outsider
Among the hearing people,
Even though it was not their intention.

Always assuming that I am part of them
By my physical presence, not understanding
The importance of communication.

Facing the choice between Deaf Event weekend
or a family reunion.
Facing the choice between the family commitment
And Deaf friends.
I must make the choices constantly,
Any wonder why I choose Deaf friends???

I get such great pleasure at the Deaf clubs,
Before I realize it, it is already 2:00 am,
Whereas I anxiously look at the clock
Every few minutes at the Family Reunion.

With Deaf people, I feel so normal,
Our communication flows back and forth.
Catch up with little trivials, our daily life,
Our frustration in the bigger world,
Seeking the mutual understanding,
Contented smiles and laughter are musical.
So magical to me,
So attuned to each other's feelings.

True happiness is so important.
I feel more at home with Deaf people
Of various color, religion, short or tall.
Than I do among my own hearing relatives.
And you wonder why?
Our language is common.
We understand each other.

Being at loss of control
Of the environment that is communication,
People panic and retreat to avoid
Deaf people like the plague.

But Deaf people are still human beings
With dreams, desires, and needs
To belong, just like everyone else.

Focus On My New Job...
« #16 on: July 17, 2009, 06:14 AM »

I am so happy with my new job, outreach representative (with computer proficient skill), since May 18th working for 13-years top-notch hottest communications industry that is designated for deaf customers obtaining new products/services.

I got their product taking home last weekend on the job training face to face in order for me to hook up something what I learned in training. Continue to play with it to be familiarized with before getting started real job assignment I will be doing installation, conversion, one-to-one training, or troubleshooting new product/services at customer's premise the same way what cable tv guy or telephone installer do.

One thing I hate the most is attending to the web-video conference call daily basis as mandatory, but still i get paid commission by attending 16 conference meetings, one host event, and submitting weekly invoicing report once installation/conversion/training completed.

Have a happy summer!!
