Please can you check out this VIN number? i'm not too sure it is correct as i can't guarantee that the guy i told to check it got it right, but here it is anyway.

43R-00029AS1801IDOT18M4331.

IT'S a honda accord 2001 model. thanx in advance.

Blackman,

This doesn't look like a valid VIN for any car. The VIN is usually made of 17 characters (letters and numbers). Honda usually starts with a '1' or 'J', which signifies that the car was made in the US  or Japan, or 'J' and '4' for some Camry, because they are assembled in Japan or the US.'1','2' (Canada) and '4' is usally used for cars made in North America i.e. US and Canada.Your VIN should be like - JHLRD28461SXXXXXX (where X reps the last 6 digits)

The tenth number or letter signifies the year e.g. 'X' for 1999,'Y' for 2000, '1' for 2001,'2' for 2002,'3' for 2003,'4' for 2004 and so on.

I will suggest that you re-post the VIN so that our gurus can help you. For easy identification of the VIN, you can check the bottom part of the windshield on the driver's side (LHS) or on the doors, where the date and place of manufacture is labeled.

Ivvie,
My brother, I did not call you ignorant to disrepect you either. I did so because I felt there are/were some things you are unaware of. First, all vehicles made now adays are not as bodily strong as they used to be. Also, the reason for that is because they found out that harder shelled vehicles put more impacts on passengers during accident thus they made them softer so that the passengers would feel less impact. That's why newer vehicles have airbags almost everywhere. You said your first vehicle in Loiusiana was salvage and you could not register it. Well that's because someone messed up the paper work. Whoever fixes a vehicle with a salvage title is the one that is supposed to do the inspection with the DMV. Atleast that's the way it is in most states that I know. Finally, I'll give you tips to buying a with prior salvage:
First, you ensure that the person selling the vehicle already has the inspection done but the DMV. That is if the vehicle is already fixed. If the vehicle is not fixed yet, I won't advise you to buy it except you could fix it yourself or you know a professional that could fix it for you. Make sure whoever is going to fix the vehicle checks it first and keeps all the receipts to the parts used. When you go to the DMV, they'll want to see all the receipts to the parts used. Secondly, never buy a vehicle (salvage or not) without a proper inspection. I don't mind spending $150 to get a proper inspection. I mean detailed inspection. There are companies that specialise in doing inspections that would guarantee a vehicle they inspect for 6 months - 1 year. Also, if you're gonig to buy the vehicle from a "dealer", ensure they give you full guarantee on the vehicle for atleast a year. Make sure you read between the lines too. You know how things are here in America, they could word things in such a way that it would come back and bite you. Like I've said earlier, accidents are different from accidents. Stay away from vehicles with front end damage except if they are minor. I know I've typed alot and something(s) probably don't make much sense but if you need detailed/better explanation to some things just let me know. Take care!

Layifioren

No qualms!  I guess I should have used non-ferrous metal as commonly understood.  You wouldn't believe but this morning, I did see a Saturn with a broken door panel (if I am right with my description).  That to me is a conventional plastic.

There is a difference in standards and I'll explain.
Georgia's standard for a salvage car is
http://motor.etax.dor.ga.gov/motor/titles/needed/Whatmakesavehicleasalvagevehicle.asp
Texas' standard is
http://www.dmv.org/glossary.php#tz_TX - (i.e. condition immediate step to being crushed before salvage)

We will see things differently just as dialets differ in the States.  Georgia's standard will be considered moderate or minor (two or more components).  Texas idea of salvage is a car damaged beyond repair, majority being in flood.  What I was thinking you were talking about was restoring jalopies or vehicles in critical conditions back to the road.
Knowledge isn't wasted - experience as well teaches.  My Louisiana experience was a huge lesson.  It had been in more than six accidents and the entire wiring harness was rewired.  With the paperwork, you are right.  I was so furious, the seller made me see someone that issued me some documents.  There was no inspection done because he wouldn't give me my money.  I did not know anything then.  I have taken your advice.

I guess we learn new things everyday.

What is your opinion on this chinese cars.

I guessed as much that the number the guy gave me was wrong Angry. Anyway i was able to get the correct one. Here it is:-

1HGCG65571A

But this one is just 11 digits. That's what it reads on the net(the company that the ride was bidded from). I hope it's correct.

Blackman,

Unfortunately, I couldn't pull the car full VIN and pictures since the car is already sold. However, fron the RUn and DRive Verification logo that I saw this looks like a good buy.See attched image from the auction, which matches what you posted.I will advise you to rest your mind and enjoy your ride.Your buyer seems to be honest enough. So keep solace in my favorite slogan at work "Not all Nigerians are crooks, most are just hardworkers"

Thanx for all your efforts man. You are da bomb. I just wanted to be sure that i was getting my money's worth. For that price that it was bought, i wasn't too sure. I can send you the pixs of the car if you want. The car itself was involved in a rear-end collision, but from the amount of damage that was done, i could see why i got it at such a cheap price. Though it has been fixed properly now(i didn't recognise the car when i got it, to show the quality of the repair job done on it). I'm very sure if it had been repaired before i had bought it, i would have been getting the car for twice the price i got it.

and by the way, it was my younger brother that bought the car;). thanx a bunch dude.

Another thing. the fans don't start working until i switch on the AC. Someone told me that if i remove the thermostat in the engine, they will work appropriately without my switching on the AC. Is that true? because i don't want to go givethe car to one re-wire man who will mess it up for me.

thanks man. Please what do u think about the mileage.

The mileage on the car was an average of 46,000miles/year from 2004 - 2007. Thats quite high. The average annual mileage on cars in the US is about 15,000.  46,000miles in a year indicates that this car was probably used by a travelling salesman and most of the mileage was highway mileage. Highway mileage is not as bad on cars as driving them within the city. I however will be surprised if one can get another 100,000 miles on this car.

@233k walk away from the truck, or save for a new engine+ transmission very soon

That is ~370 000 km right there.Look at the oldest car you can find on the road and see if it has that much mileage on it.

Ford with 233 thousand miles???!  ,  and driven in TX?  Vehicle is beyond its designated mechanical limits.  233000 in 4 years is a huge tonne of miles to a vehicle.  This truck clocked approx. 58000 miles a year.
