inconsistencies.

inconsistences don't make a flick any less great. almost all movies (particularly those based on licensed material) are fraught with inconsistences, some subtle, others glaring. i just think i am legend was done in a rush, and as for will's acting the only stand out point was when he finished off sam the dog. i almost had tears in my eyes because you could feel his hurt.
i kind of think his best outing so far was in I, Robot. his cynical bent was sweet.

he is not a particularly good actor in the vein of say tom hanks (talking of one man movies, have u seen castaway?) but will is exceptionally good in what he does. he wasnt taken seriously before given his penchant for comic one liners and the dreaded "hell, no!" line he spews out but now he's very well grown.
iice, you rite, the robot in I, Robot was very good, even better than will but i guess the whole point was that sometimes robots can be human and humans can be robots (gordon brown, anyone? how about yar'adua?)

@doyin13
its like 28days later in:
1. theres a viral outbreak
2. tons of people died
3. there are a few survivors hanging on a slim thread of life
4. theres a dead city
5. it hovers in between fullblown horror and silliness
6. there are manic infected denizens scouring in shadows
7. the ending sucks.

abi o. he's laughing all the way to the bank! i loved the movie. there were a lot of things not really explained, but i think that's what was intended - for the audience to make inferences for themselves. humans have evolved in intelligence, meaning film producers don't feel the need to spell everything out for you to understand. they want and expect you to think and figure out things yourself. if there's any movie that still got me thinking about what it was all about, it is "the shining" starring jack nicholson. that movie is a classic and still got people talking about it years after it was made. i wish naija film producers could start making movies that are thought provoking and not so obvious. talk about lack of subtlety in our movies! back to "i am legend", i think will smith delivered the best he could, considering there weren't other people to talk to apart from sam the dog, who he had to kill later on not out of choice. if you were isolated for 3 years, you no go go mad? and truly, that part where fred the mannequin moved his head, i literally jumped! oh, and i did have a renewed respect for bob marley. talk about LEGENDS! hearing the "redemption song" got me going, mon1

im glad you saw fred move his head! lots of people missed that one. on the point of producers counting on the audience to watch and interpret, that doesnt always work. sure we don't need handy holdy and big frigging signs saying THIS IS A CLUE or YONDER DID IT, but movies are entertianment not crossword puzzles. who wants to rack their brains while sitting in the couch after a hard days work? i had trouble with M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable (apt title) and L:ady in the water and i still have brain fever. i grappled a bit with his SIGNS but i figured that one wasnt really about alien invaders, it was about one man's faith crisis and the existence of God. shyamalan can never best the success of Sixth sense and all his foray into that terrain is BS and FUBAR. did you see The Village? i went through the same thought process with existenz but at the end my only conclusion is the films are utter shite.
now i guess the movie to beat them all in the audience guessing game is Usual Suspects. Ah, Kaiser Soze!!
if you look closely you will notice that I Am Legend is all about the city. it was artistic and unbelievable the way they pulled that off.
Semper Fi.

good analysis, neoteny. i do agree that producers shouldn't make it too diffcult to interprete a movie, but again, the aim is for people to never forget what they go and watch. i personally don't like a movie where i've gotten it all figured out even before the end, and then 2 days after, it's been removed from my memory. i want to be able to think and dissect it long after i've watched it. there are some producers that have gone overboard, but then again, that's part of what makes them genious. people need to stop taking the easy way out and being passive. naija movies have perfected that for sure. i can't name a single naija movie that has got me pondering anything! considering we're number 3 in the movie industry, yes, i think it's high time we stepped UP for real! we've got so much potential. and yes, "the usual suspects" was a masterpiece true true. i still remember the look of disbelief on everyone's face when the end was revealed, after suspecting everyone else and kaiser soze turns out to be the ever-cunning kevin spacey! ok, as per "i am legend", i downloaded it off the net, so i was able to rewind the part where fred the mannequin moved after i wasn't sure the first time. never jumped out of my skin like that before! i don't know if they were trying to show us if will smith just imagined it, but dude freaked the heck out of me, considering there were no other humans apart from the darkseekers. and did anyone just hate that alpha male thing guy. he was so relentless and wanted to get will smith by all means. i hate that part at the end where he was banging into the glass trying to get to the fresh prince i wanted to cry. i felt so helpless. the soundtrack was great still. long live BOB MARLEY!

if anyone deserves an oscar its the two dogs that played as sam. souljahgirl, i don't think we are quite sure kaiser soze was spacey. maybe he made it all up. yah he fakled a limp and whatnot, he made a fabulous 'kobayashi' spin. but was he really kaiser soze? i do ponder when i watch naija flicks-why, oh, why did i even bother watchin THAT sop? fred. now theres a mystery. sure will could be deluded as we saw it from his point of view but for someone who survived 3 years alone with a dog in the midst of danger, played gulf on aircraft carriers and lovingly tended to housekeeping and meticulously scheduled and synchronized his life, delusions are a little far fetched. but then again he did talk to them didnt he? what really muddles me is that he was all riled up about fred BEING THERE rather than moving. i find that odd. and if in his delusions they do move-well, why was he riled up if fred casually took a stroll? another movie i like-RONIN. whatever was in that case???

hahaha, neoteny, you dey analyze this movie well sha. big ups. see, this is part of why we watch movies, right? to ask questions and try to clarify as much as possible, not just sitting back and accepting what we see. there are a lot of questions i been asking about the movie too, but then again, i know everyone's version would be different. about fred, i honestly don't know WHY he would have moved his head at all, could it be something the directors threw in just to jolt the audience, or was it just something to make us analyze the meaning ourselves? na them sabi. i can't wait to watch the making of the movie when it comes out on DVD, i really want to hear the director's commentary on that part. and if i were will smith, the fact that a common mannequin managed to walk away from the store, and stroll down the road, I'D BE SCARED! na to do a 180 degrees and drive back where i came from. but i guess his mind was beginning to go crazy on him, so he decided to confront him instead. now that's the beginning of insanity i would say. how you go dey ask mannequin question? LOL. but it scared me o. and why oh why did he kill fred his padi now? as per kaizer soze being kevin spacey, the guy could have true true made it up as an alter ego kind of thing. those cops got had! lol. it's been ages since i saw RONIN so i don't remember much. i liked JEAN RENO more in "THE PROFESSIONAL/LEON" now that is an action movie! why isn't he in more correct movies sef? speaking of naija movies, i have very little patience because they are so damn predictable. i mean there are maybe a handlful that i can watch more than once, for example "DIAMOND RING" was a great movie back then. i sometimes visit this naija movie site ONLINENIGERIA or whatever its called, it takes forever to find a good movie and watch, i guess considering there are prolly thousands of people trying to access the site as well, it tends to be slow too. they're free anyway, so wetin we for do?

souljahgirl you are right about the throwaway regarding fred. maybe its a goof to amuse and shock us. it reminds me of the sixth sense. remember that part that willis and osment came to that poisoned girl's house? well just the part when osment hovered his hands on the doorknob? if you look closely you'll see willis was not reflected in the chrome door knob even though he was standing right behind osment. even before i saw the sweet ending that got me thinking. another killer ending? lock, stock and two smoking barrels. girl, did i larf!!

aaaahhhhh, someone is very very observant oh. if you were able to notice that bruce willis's reflection didn't show, then you must have figured the movie out already before it ended. you too sharp for your own good. you know, sometimes, i might have an idea of where a movie plot is going, but i try hard to remain indifferent until the end, so that i can be shocked. it heightens the suspense. don't you agree?

I think the low of the movie must have been when he had to kill his companion of 5years and best friend?the dog BEN! Then talking about being suspicious it was kind of obvious that they were other thingscreatures aliens out to get him from the get goooooooo
