@souljahgirl

another very lame ending? zodiac. i mean, if leigh wasnt zodiac and if zodiac never gets caught, why bother? wasted close on two hours to see the novelty of manhunt taper off to boredom. don't watch that crap.

OMG, just saw this one yesterday and it totally blew me away.
maybe because i'm no movie aficionado, and didn't bother watching the trailers or reading the reviews prior to seeing this one, but heck, i got the sort of edge-of-your-seat-suspense-full entertainment you'll expect from any acclaimed  blockbuster.
highly recommended!

And anyway, i just snooped in on  some of the user reviews on imdb and metacritic, the film took a lot of panning from
critics who whined about its dire CGI, crap ending, plot inconsistency, and all what not. But who cares really??

abi o, who cares? even hollywood isn't perfect, even with the millions of dollars they sink into making just 1 movie. at least them try. from what i understand, a movie can take months and months, even years to make, so imagine having to tweak, edit and squeeze all that into less than 2 hours for us to watch. those people deserve more credit than we give them. the GCI darkseekers in "I am Legend" wasn't all that bad, i mean it was obvious for those that are sci-fi fans, but i guess that's what they could produce, for it to look as real as possible. me i loved it, no matter the beating it got from other people. my fave part was just staring at will smith's muscles throughout the movie! jada pnkett is one lucky biotch! Grin

odada, you must have been watching something else o. he was isolated for 3 years and his dog's name was sam, like neoteny said. you sure say you no fall asleep? Tongue

i haven't seen zodiac yet. is it worth watching? anyway, ima still watch it sha. one man's food. . .

Cant believe any thinks I Am Legend would be even nominated for "Best Use of Light" talkless of "Best Picture"

With all the good movies that came out in the Fall, you want to compare mediocre crap to No Country?

Will isnt getting any award, sorry. Denzerl would sooner get one for American Gangster and that's not happening either.

the story, the CGI, the acting. .
and do u guys know that the whole set, manhattan, was a 3d model? everyhin was computer generated. so the whole huntin for antelope scenes could as well av been shot in a studio. .
twas real good.

My Gawd, this is Will's best movie i've seen, save independence day. .

i've see pursuit of happyness. . .
twas a good movie no doubt, but it was more about the story than the acting.
the story was what made the movie good. not anything else.
but I am Legend is a total package.
good story, good acting, good grafix, goood movie. . .

yup. i second that. that "PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS" movie touched me so deep ehn? to be poor na BAD thing, man! it made me want to work even harder to achieve my goals. sorry to digress, but imagine the government being able to dip into your account and take all your money due to owing of taxes? i know the govt is responsible for uplifting the country's economy through our taxes etc, but come on now, no be everybody fit eat 3 square meals a day talkless of paying tax. (naija well done) i cried for will smith. now i've realized what a great actor he truly is, aside from being goofy and funny all the time, he can really act dramatic roles. and i want to marry his son, JADEN. he's a cutey-patootie  Grin call me agbaya if you like.  Tongue

speaking of TRANSFORMERS, even though i don't support comic books/cartoons being turned into movies, i gotta say i loved this one. aside from OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE was obviously everyone's favorite. did ya'll notice the product placement of GM cars in that movie? was too much oh.  Grin made a sister want to go out and buy a shiny new caaaah! haba. and my padi, SHIA LABEOUF just fine overnight like that shuo!. go see "DISTURBIA" too.

what is it about the movie that u don't like?

in grafix, it ranks amongs the top movies.
in acting, will smith did his magic in this one
in directing, francis lawrence did a pretty job,
so what is it u do not like. . .

to me, its a pretty good movie
Neoteny (m)
Re: I Am Legend
« #78 on: January 11, 2008, 11:01 AM »

@justkiunmi

heck no!

in grafx it sux big time
in acting will smith did better in I, Robot
directing was so-so considering there wasnt much to direct (a bloke, his dog, and a few coffee-slugging CGI animators)

but its still a heck of a movie. you can't compare its cgi with say transformers, they could have done a better job interpolating cgi effects on motion captured live action as WETA did with gollum/smeagol in LOTR. those stickmen in IAL really look cartoony and stinky.

speaking of trans formers: IT STINKS! it felt like something a geeky kid knocked up in a whim only because he could do it. beyond showcasing fab giant robots it did nothing for my eye palate. labeouf did better in disturbia, you are right souljahgal, and in the cartoon bumblebee was a volswagen beetle (bumble BEE, geddit?), not a stinky camaro.

the entire movie save the CGI was laclustre and uninspiring.

@DE.Reloaded, even the unforgiving roger ebert gave the movie a B rating and the average over at Rotten Tomatoes was a B.

@souljahgal

zodiac was based on a true story and unfortunately it played as such, too much along the lines. they tyook neither artistic nor dramatic license with the license and hence reduced the potential to something akin to watching "48 Hours Mystery". as against your theory they couldnt fit sense into 2 hours. you know sometimes thats the undoing of most movies. they try to cram everything into 1 hour 45 minutes. CGI, plot, humour, in jokes, sleaze, product placement, politics. com on dudes time isnt that elastic!!

I think Will is a mediocre actor. His skills are C+ at best. He's merely a clown that tries to be serious. I only watch his movies when they are on DVDs or on network television. Even then, I barely bother

Who is unforgiving? I love Ebert but when it comes to movies with black actors/actresses, i don't take him seriously. He tends to give them high scores even if they are complete crap just because his wife is black. So I wouldnt be surprised if he gave something idiotic like "Little Man" an A

other movies i've seen lately includes saw 4 by that same man. that movie is something else.
also saw the kingdom by jamie foxx. wonderful movie.
i've also seen boewulf by angelina original sin. equally nice.
all dvd version and don't ask me where i got them because u don't want to know.
my order of pick is
1) saw
2)the kingdom
3)i am legeng
4) boewulf.

so that na that.

@justkunmi

ok, tell me, beyond the allure of the robots, skin the film to is bare bones and tell me what, if anything, is particularly exciting, unique, memorable about the movie?

alien invaders? NAH! seen that.

macho gung ho marines? um, seen that too.

predictive michael bay fast cut action sequences where everything in sight gets blown up ala The Rock?

been there too often.

the gooey "ROMANCE" between Megan fox's Mikaela and labeouf's Sam,?  N-No. there was more chemistry between sam and bumblebee.

and must there absolutely be a great movie each year? is that a given? there are only better movies when you compare them over level fields. movies come in different genres for different viewing tastes and temperaments so comparing I Am Legend with No Country is unfair

ouch, neotony Grin you sabi diss o. nevertheless, i still like Transfromers, robots, autobots or no-bots. i grew up watching the cartoons, but i don't really like the fact that they sha had to put it on film. these producers/directors should just leave some things as is - cartoon.

i really want to see "No country for old men". i heard Javier Bandem won an award and that he was BAD ASS in the movie. yes, that's my kind of movie - blood/gore/suspense/horror all in one.  Tongue

@souljah girl.

yah, somethings are better when animated. live action sometimes is useless.

seen 30 days of night? josh hartnett? i got a cammed copy and the film was mostly shot within 30 days of night (lol) so i got mixed feeligs over it. dang! hang on my phone is ringing. brb

Re: I Am Legend
« #88 on: January 12, 2008, 10:30 AM »

ok, 30days of night.

wow. creepy vampires, for once they got the vampiric menace right and i can't remember when last i saw "genuine" vampires onscreen portrayed as they were meant to be. none of that scaly skin bat-ugly mug and morphing  effects in Blade. think pale skin, dead eyes, gleaming fangs and bloodstains.

really it was creepy. and the sense of isolatiuon added to the creepiness.

however i have issues with the ending. (spoiler alert!)

it was all fine and dandy when ever the lead dude sacrifices for his squeeze but wot tye heck, wot sense is the sacrifice of saving a loved one if you end up dead?? josh hartnett saved his babe and got killed for it. so wots the point? if she loved him she'd be wishing she was dead. kind of like vertical limits where saving ONE life led to the deaths of many.

lots of peole die in 30 D of N and the menace is just thick and palpable in the air. no CGI and it worked for me. I got all the CGI i could ever need in that lame effort Beowulf.

yah, pretty powerful moment, that dog dying. EXCEPT!! they goofed a little when he slid the dog on the floor after she died-well, look well and you'll see the dog was still breathing.

<sigh> really shouldnt rush movies and this one was rushed.

robert neville a Lt.Colonel but his pips were that of a major. hmm, someone didnt notice that. guess the costume department expresso perk was offline.

yah, and plexiglass doors that splinter like plain glass when the darkseeker bashed it.
