Connecting Vmobile Gprs To Your Pc Browser.
« on: April 07, 2006, 10:26 PM »

Hi, guys!

V-mobile users!

Can anyone connect a vmobile gprs enabled phone to a PC in order to browse the internet?
I know a few people who have but the dial up number, username and password (in fact the general procedure) seems to be top secret, even customer care won't want to tell you.

MTN gprs can be connnected to the PC and it's no secret, but what's up with Vmobile?
Anyway, I am off to get the procedure from a friend of a friend who has it set up already (I heard it's fast).

In the meanwhile if anyone has any info to share, you are welcome.

i use a sony ercisson S700i and someone put the settings on my phone which still hasn't worked. Customer Care only makes matters because all they'll say is "visit our website".

just in case this is correct and it works, here's the info i've got as it is on my own mobile phone;

Connect using: Vactive! WAP / Vmms
Internet mode: WAP
IP address: 172.18.254.5
Username: wap / mms
Password: wap / mms

rilla64, abeg try send your own as quick as possible. i checked my mail on my friend's nokia 1600 and it moved quite fast i must confess.

Vmobile has both the internet and wap setup,  If you have the internet settings, you just connect your laptop to the phone via BT or IR and browse full internet. But if you have the wap settings, you can connect to your laptop and then input the proxy settings into your web browser (IE7, Opera, firefox e.g.) enter ip add 172.18.254.5 and proxy 8080 to browse web on your computer after connecting,

hi drogba.
i have the wap setting activated on my phone and i can browse with it on my PC though much slower than mtn's. is there a way i can make vmobile activate the web access point (internet.vmobile) for me. whenever i try to use it, it says "subscribe to gprs first", which wap.vmobile doesn't do. forget about their customer care though, at least in my own experience with them.
i've tried to subscribe for it from nokia website but it sends the same vmobile wap settings (with wap.vmobile rather than internet.vmobile).
your response will be appreciated. thanks.

Actually, there's a way to activate the internet settings by yourself, but Vmobile has blocked it already therefore it makes no difference telling you the procedure now,  The settings sent to you via phone maufacturers web config page doesn't activate the internet at all, it only sends the settings to your phone with the belief that your operator has provisioned your line.

@All: First all u need do is call Vmobile Customer Care up and tell them u want them to provision ur line for mobile internet. U wuld be told to send a sms(wapgprs   space    phone make    space     phone model) send to 184.
When u receive the settings save it,make it ur default connection and switch off ur phone for about 10mins. Put it on back and try to browse.
Tell me how it goes! Huh
                                                                              Later Wink

yeah its very possible. And i can authoritatively say that it works perfectly fine on my PC browser.
Though am using a nec phone e313 to be precise. The first thing you've got to do is to make sure your line is activated for internet and not wap.The reason is if u use an activated sim for wap browsing, your PC wont be ble to browse the net using that configuration.
Once the line has been configured,u've got to try it on your mobile phone first,if it is web based. If it works then you proceed connecting it with yur PC.But, remember you've got to run the phone driver with your system for your PC to be able to recognise your phone. The Line will serve as your ISP and the phone as your MODEM.
Then you proceed setting up a new network by going to the control panel and your network. From there you will set up a new internet connection using dial-up option, you can type any word as your user name, but the dial-up number got to be *99#.
If you still have problem with the connection, you are free to holla me on my mail address enitany20022005@yahoo.com
