EmekaNaija,
Don't blow smoke up our ass all because you goggled T24.

Now on the consolidation of banks; pre-consolidation many banks in Nigeria could not handle a single financing of medium to longer term project in the country. The banks could not support major telecommunication projects much less the oil industry. Anyone that stole 20Million naira or whatever the capital base was then could easily setup a bank. The CBN took the foresight and used its power by increasing the capital base requirements; these has made our banks stronger and more robust.

To all Zenith Bank friends online,

I hope you find it in your hearts to forgive your Boss.

So many family trips were cancelled, many marriages postponed, many investment opportunities lost, many school fees might not be paid.

These are some of the bandwagon effects of this new development. It is really a big pity.

Dont blame your boss, he is trying to grow the business. I think the way he has gone about it is not splendid, but you can't just leave your job immediately.

What you need is a plan!! A plan to save up and start your own biz, where you have no fears for the Monday morning. I think this experience is still another reminder that we need to push into doing businesses of our own rather than working for a salary.

Think about it,

Thank God!

For a moment there,  I thought you were going to end it with giving us a Link to some Forex trading or club.

Thanks for keeping it here  Smiley

HOLDEN AT THE PEOPLE'S COURT OF NAIRALAND
HONOURABLE JUDGE JAIRZINHO HIMSELF

In the matter of

Konye & others too scared to come out - PLAINTIFFS

vs

Zenith Bank
Jim Ovia
T24
and their agents                                    - DEFENDANTS

I have gone through all ,and in summary these are the issues:

1. The 1st DEF is alleged to have increased the plaintiff remuneration about 3 months ago with the sole aim of competing with Oceanic bank, however a few days to the end of the year, they  surreptitously restructured this same 'enhanced remuneration' to include a performance based  pre-requisite.

2.The Platiffs breached confidentiality aggreements by coming to the open with the above in exercise of their fundamental Human rights to free speech as enshrined in the UN &African charters & confirmed by the 1999 NG  constitution.

3.That the 3rd DEF is a failed project.

4. That the 2nd DEF is really interested in financing other projects with revenue saved from the 1st allegation.

5.That a member of Nairaland  called Finecut is a real pain in the butt of fellow citizens.

JUDEMENT
Please find below my ruling:

A.I find the 1st & 2nd def guilty on the 1st count as they should have incorporated the 'performance appraisal' in the salary increase in the first place if they  didn't have ulterior motives,or they could be accused of lacking basic/fundamental management foresight.

B.I find the plaintiffs  NOT GUILTY on count 2,and no disciplinary action should be taken against them.

C. I however find the plaintiffs GUILTY of spreading false information regarding the 3rd DEF as regards count 3.

D.I will reserve ruling on count 4.

E.COUNT 5 - is hereby referred to the relevant authorities for necessary and urgent action.

Appedix:
The 1st & 2nd DEF are expected to formally apologise to  the plaintiffs and revert to status quo ante until the next salary review.

I so RULE . . . . . . COURT !!!!

hmmm. Our economy is really in a bad shape as its only the service sector like Banks that are returning multi-billion naira profits, while the real sector (manufacturing sector)  is no where to be found and are even appealing to banks like Zenith not to squeeze them out of the capital market through taking all the funds available for investment. Angry

Zenith is currently raising fresh funds from the capital market, I wonder what the cut in salaries of their staff, if its true, will do to Investors interest in taking up their share offer.

Slashing of salary might be true, because among every rumour there is always an element of truth. NIgeria to me  is a lawless country whereby your employer will wake up one day and think of maximising their own profit at the detriment of the satff. They always breach contract and the next thing they will say is they do abide to  letters, anyway let's hope for the best and pray to be an employer. The case of Zenith Shares ,we should not forget to what happened in the case of Enron.Enron happened to be one of the biggest energy coy in USA,many people bought Enron's Shares not quite long ,it was declared bankrupt, while their auditoors were still reporting that in their own opinion THEIR FINANCIAL STATEMENT SHOWS TRUE AND FAIR VIEW.Although the higer the risk the higher the return ,we should still be careful in buying into stocks and fight and against breach of contract

What is really happening in Zenith.
Zenith Securities Seem to be having some serious problems. Money I paid into my stock broking account since first week of December has still not reflected and they have not done trading for me. Worse they no more respond to enquries or complaints. Yet they have collected and drawn on my two checks this December Promptly. To make matters worse their newly upgraded (downgraded) Zenith securities web portal stopped accepting log on from me today. Now I need to start shopping for another new stockbroker as of late Zenith Securities have been useless!. Even phone calls are no more picked rather tou get phoney voice messages no one is available.
What is really happening at Zenith is it the T24 or reduced salary demotivation or some other more fundamental problems?
I have decided If I do not get the current impasse no buying of their IPO.

Subject: AMENDMENT TO POLICY ON DEPOSIT MOBILIZATION

TO:                 ALL STAFF

FROM:           GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE

SUBJECT:     AMMENDMENT TO POLICY ON DEPOSIT MOBILIZATION

DATE:            24RD DECEMBER, 2007

A review of the total deposit position of the Bank month on month reveals that the Bank is running short of its planned monthly deposit target.

The negative variance in our deposit position is attributed to the fact that staff are not marketing our various deposit liability products and thus not meeting their targets. In addition, some account officers do not exert proper relationship management skills with their customers. As such, most accounts under their management do not witness any activity for months and some become dormant after six (6) months.

To engender a consistent and sustainable growth in our bank wide deposit position, the following will now apply effective January 2, 2007:

v      For every month that staff (service or marketing ) does not achieve up to 60% of monthly deposit target, staff will be debited as follows:

            1st Month:         N5, 000.00 (marketer);           N2, 500.00(service staff)

            2nd Month         N10, 000.00   ,,          ;          N5, 000.00        ,,

            3rd Month         N15, 000.00   ,,          ;          N7, 500.00        ,,

Thereafter, staff will be sent on suspension.

v      Any non-borrowing current account that records no activity in a month, the account officer(marketing officer) will be debited N1, 000.00 (One Thousand naira only) per a/c

v      If  the a/c is not tagged to an a/c officer, the Branch head / GE will be debited as appropriate

v      For Dormant accounts the following will apply: Marketing officer that allows an a/c being managed by him/her to go dormant will be debited N10, 000.00 (Ten Thousand naira only) monthly until the account is re-activated.

v      If the a/c is not tagged to an a/c officer, the Branch head / GE will be debited as appropriate, except in cases where it is proven beyond reasonable doubt that the customer cannot be remarketed.e.g Death, relocation etc.

v      For regions where more than 50% of staff are sanctioned on deposit related matters, the RBEs will each be debited N10, 000.00 (Ten Thousand naira only) monthly.

v      After the 3 rd month, the RCEs will be debited N20, 000.00 (Twenty Thousand naira only).

Please be guided

Re: Zenith Bank
« #212 on: December 30, 2007, 10:17 PM »

@FBS

It is real. I also read it myself and i also heard that some of their employees have lost their jobs and the bank is considering closing some branches in other cities outside of Lagos or reducing the over-all workforce. In my opinion, i think most of these banks have bitten more than they can chew. I saw this coming and that's why i didn't buy any bank stocks. Everytime i express to people about my concerns for the banks, all i heard is " The banks are strong, they have N25B capital base and bla bla bla" What people didn't realize is that some politicians used the banks to launder their money overseas and now that the politicians are in trouble, the banks are also in trouble. The Recapitallization scam was the biggest fraud ever in the Nigerian banking systems. Get ready for another round of re-structure in the banking system that will finally reduce the number of banks to 5-10.

i think u guys should wait until u are paid before u tell nairalanders.  I really respect Mr Jim Ovia he is a reputable,

what u said. Please we should not misinformed the public. I am a shareholder and i have been banking with zenith for 9years
I have assited zenith bank in getting deposit from a multinational oil and gas company. I believe that the staffs of zenith are articulate, intelligent and goal getter.
I found it hard to believe that Jim ovia we let the staffs of zenith down. I f jim ovia cuts the salary of staffs,he will indirectly cut there morale, attitude to work and loyalty to Zenith bank.
If jim ovia truly cut the salary of staffs,he will have a tough time at the next Zenith A.G.M,because the shareholders slogan will be "JIM OVIA MUST GO" he has to resign
as the MD of zenith,if he is not capable to lead zenith bank.  The staffs and customers of Zenith are our cash cow, they have done a lot to make zenith a success story.
i think Jim ovia should have is head examine if He truly cut staffs salary. I also need a very responsible, caring, luving,

This is really a sad story.
Zenith marketers are now totally desperate. They practically go from office to office and sometimes  you get calls from them without an idea on how they ever came across your name or your number.
My heart goes out to both our male and female young graduates working as marketters with these banks. I imagine how happy they would have been  getting this job and how desperate and scared they'll be now. The fear of loosing your job is not fun at all.
