For all those putting down Genny, have u considered that Halle has way more money and resources (i.e., beauticians, makeup artists, personal trainer, hair stylist, etc) to make herself look good.  Also, Halle has had a nose job.

A close examination of the two women shows that they both have the same features.

I personally think Genny is facially more beautiful.  The symmetry of her face is amazing.  I am saying this based not on still pictures, but on watching her in movies.

Of course, b/c the world is racist Halle's skin color will always give her an edge.

IF HALLE WERE THE COLOR OF ALEK WEK WOULD You ALL THINK SHE WAS PRETTY?

So then only compare dark skinned girls with dark skinned girls, if the light skinned womans complexion will upset you anytime she is preferred.

Why compare a dark person with a light one, when you only want the dark girl to be chosen?

I'm really getting tired of the same lame excuse people hurl around, anytime there is a mention of a pretty light skinned woman, are you people really that insecure that you can't take it when a light skinned woman is described as beautiful?

Halle is more than just a light skinned woman, she is a beautiful woman period. Even before she was rich, she was winning beauty contests. Even while pregnant she looks radiant.

Change the record for God's sake!

I think Alek is very pretty, to me a pretty person is a pretty person.

Now a question for you, would you be so uptight about people thinking Halle is beautiful if she was not a light skinned woman?
So What?

@Londoner

You are assuming a lot.

Anyways, it seems that u (and others) refuse to answer my questiong regarding whether Halle Berry would be considered so pretty by so many if she were as dark as Alek Wek.  You know the answer is hell-to-the-no!

As for your question, I think Halle Berry is physically beautiful as she is because she has lovely features AND NOT BECAUSE OF HER COLORING.  Her face is very balanced and symmetric.  That is how I judge facial beauty: balance and symmetry.  Naturally, clear, even-toned skin enhances beautiful features and Halle has that (underneath all the makeup and airbrushing).  These are the very same reasons that I think Genny is pretty.  Her balanced features and clarity of skin is amazing.  However, I do think both women are a  bit overblown as are most celebrities.   They take a hot shit just like anyone else.  For example, I think Naomi Campbell is the most stunning woman that I have ever seen, but I know that my opinion is probably a bit overblown.  I used to think that the sun rose and set on Tyson Beckford, but now he's just another attractive man.  I think Brad Pitt is hot as hell, but if he weren't THEBRAD PITT and I saw him at the grocery store would I really give a shit.  Probably not.   Again, all these celebrities have one thing in common symmetry and balance to their faces.

I answered your question, if I already think Alek and her skin tone is very pretty (I've seen her in real life), why wouldn't I think Halle would be pretty if she were Aleks colour? Ofcourse I would. It was infact you who are assuming. It was YOU who began accusing people here of skin tone prejudice, NO ONE ELSE. Its YOU who hinged your accusation on HALLES SKIN TONE, noone else. Your outburst stemmed from people who said Halle instead of Jenny and it was clear Halles skin tone was the root of your annoyance.

If Halle's skin tone was irrelevant in your tirade, WHY DID YOU MENTION IT AT ALL?

I don't have to qualify my opinion of someones beauty to you or anyone else. I consider Jenny to be pretty, but to me Halle is prettier all round.

Stop being so defensive just because a light skinned women is considered pretty too, if its such a problem then just compare Jenny with other dark skinned ladies. Its becoming  really childish.

@Londoner

Tirade?  That crap u wrote was a tirade?  Please, save your rantings for someone who actually knows u and that u have an actual beef with.  You sound crazed.  I don't expect this level of vehemence over such a superficial subject.

I asked a simple question; so chill.  The question was not solely or personally directed at u.  You could have simply said yes, no, or ignored it.  But instead u have made it a personal vendetta.  Go hand yourself.  Idiot.

So what, you were not asking question, you were accusing people. you actually insinuated that people who think Halle is prettier do so because they are  racist.

I get sick and tired of whining people like you all over the net , so jumpy whenever people say  any light skinned woman is prettier than a dark one .

 This thing repeats itselve in almost every thread on this site where a light skinned person is compared to a dark skinned one, its better only to compare Genny with other dark skinned girls, if people are only allowed to find the dark skinned girl tops.
I admit I did rant a little.

You didn't answer my question BTW, if Halle was dark skinned, would you have such a problem with people finding her prettier than Genny?

Re: Genevieve Nnaji vs. Halle Berry

@Londoner

You need to go and find out the true meaning of racism before you say that I am insinuating that people are racist b/c they find Halle beautiful.  That is absurd.

Given the recent threads on this Nairaland forum, I have come to the conclusion that color, race, nationality, ethnicity are burning issues here.  For example, there is a 2-years old thread comparing dark-skinned people to light-skinned people.  Given this focus, I wanted to know what motivated individuals to choose one woman over the other.  Of course, choices can be based on nothing other than mere preference and anyone could have simply said that.

As for your last question, I will answer it.  NO, I do not believe Halle Berry would be considered beautiful if she were as dark as Alek Wek.  Just as most people do not find Alek Wek to be beautiful because of her color even though I strongly disagree with this belief.  I have heard men say such vicious things about Alek Wek's color that it almost brought me to tears on one occassion.

No one would even notice Halle Berry if she were as dark as Alek Wek.  She would not receive the kind of exposure that she has today.  No one would probably be only on one cover of one major magazine (like Alek Wek).  No one would make her a leading actress in a feature film.  We would all be asking Halle who?

The advantage that Alek Wek has is that she is extremely tall and even if one wanted to ignore her, they could not.  There will always be a place for her in high fashion.  Halle Berry is short and if she were short she would be I-N-V-I-S-I-B-L-E.  At least this is what short, dark-skinned Black women tha I know tell me.   I disagree with how the world views color and Black people generally, but this is the reality.  I am sorry if it hurts.

So what, you a still havent answered my question, would you be so upset if Halle was dark skinned and people were saying she is prettier than Halle? I suspect your single bone of contention with people who are choosing Halle over Genny is Halle's skin colouring.

Is Gabrielle Union tall? Is Nia long tall?

It may be a hard thing for you to believe, but many people think Alek Wek is beautiful . Thats what you and the dark skinned friends you mention can't seem to accept.Maybe they  don't think she's beautiful. I've seen Alek Wek in london. Is Iman only a model because she is tall? How about Oluchi? Did Agbani win miss world because she was the tallest girl in the group? What about Grace Jones? or Naomi Campbell. Is it just their height that got them noticed as examples of beauty?

You talk as if these dark skinned woman were the only tall people they could find, so they just threw them in because of it.

There are  so many examples of dark skinned woman who are appreciated as beautiful, yet you want to believe that the whole world is racist and point an accusing finger at others. You tried to accuse me and others of saying Halle is prettier because of her skin tone/racism (your own words not mine), well you were wrong.

Is Genny herself not considered the top beauty in Nollywood?, Yet there are many light skinned and mixed race actresses who are not considered as beautiful as her,, yet you accuse people of being racist/shadist?.

Dont give me that "the whole world is racist " rubbish. When you are talking about individuals, you don't just accuse them of being racist/shadist when you know nothing about their mindset.

Its not a case of you wanting to know what people think, but more a case of you taking an accusatory tone after having already concluding what people think, before even asking a question. You jumped to your conclusion, simple.

The world is not made up of what you think you know.

@Londoner

If u bothered to read what I wrote I said that I did not agree with the idea that Alek Wek is ugly.  Do I think she is a conventional beauty,  no I do not.  And I do not care whether u met her or not.  As for the word racist, it was u that brought that word into the exchange.

You talk about how I cannot accuse people of racism b/c I don't know their mindset.  Similarly, YOU DON'T KNOW MY MINDSET.  So take your own advice.  I never accused anyone of racism.  It was u that said that I was insinuating that people were racist.

At least I made an attempt to answer your question.  Now, why don't you answer mine.

Have a nice day, or life.  I am done conversing w/ you.  You argue in a circular nature and pull conclusions from your nash.    Instead of sticking with the topic, u make ad hoc attacks.  I will not be checking this thread again.  So, u can argue with yourself if u want.  Get some education and exposure.  BTW, racism and colorism is alive and well.  Maybe in London, there is no racism, but here in the USA it exists.   Duces.

So what, you wrote something and forgot you wrote it, I even quoted your own words for you, but you apparently have amnesia, on that note, its best to forget this discussion with you. I said a few posts ago that if Halle were Aleks colour she would still be as pretty, you conveniently didn't read it because its more important for you to believe that no dark skinned girls are viewed as pretty. Thats your own warped addiction.

At least be honest, if you are going to accuse people of being racist/colourist at least be bold enough to admit it when questioned, instead of making out you were making no such assertion.

Have a nice day!, lol

Wait a minute ,you have to be very mature when you  compare two people from different cultures. Halle Berry,is good when  you think about a woman that can bare her body in the public  or act anything meant for seduction  of the feeble minded,lustful people, but she can not fit in  into a society that has moral values,promote decency and act teachables films to both children and adults alike ,then go for likes of Genevieve NNAJI  Cool

People act like Halle is SOOO light, when she's really not. She's really just a light-ish brown color. She's still brown, and nothing is wrong with that. I'm lighter than she is and both of my parents are black.

Not to say that lighter is better, because it's definitely not. I think that  Genevieve Nnaji is gorgeous, honestly. I LOOOOVE dark skin, it's so beautiful to me. It's just so, solid and flawless (usually) and smooth looking.

I say this because I know the thread has become about skin color lol, which I'm sure the topic starter intended in some sick, twisted, back handed sort of way.

But yeah, if I had to chose, honestly I'd say  Genevieve Nnaji, just because I'm American and I'm so used to Halle,  Genevieve Nnaji seems more exotic to me and I like her skin tone.
