Bankers: The New Sex Symbols?
« on: December 25, 2007, 01:33 AM »

I just want to ask if its just me or are other people watching our bankers, I mean the way they live, dress sense, fat salaries, general attitude,etc everything they do now is flambouyant. Flashy cars, clothes, hairdos,cribs etc. When i mean bankers I mean all of them including their Managing Directors and all.

Are bankers the highest paid workers today?Huh why are they so loud? I thought a banker is meant to be conservative (like they really are abroad), afterall you are dealing with other people's cash not yours. The oil workers i think are the richest today in terms of salary, why are they not loud like the bankers? you turn on the TV, there must always be something about a bank or its managing director.

We do not even get to know the managing directors of banks abroad, I asked some friends who have lived in the UK and USA for years about the managing Directors of some banks, they didn't know,why is ours different? a bank MD is like a Governor of a state, a primary one pupil knows the managing director of Zenith Bank, Oceanic,etc

This was not the case years ago, if i remember correctly, bankers were old school people, they were not highly placed socially, they were conservative, but today the reverse is the case, they see themselves as SEX SYMBOLS (with very bad/nonchalant attitude to customers whose money pays their salaries, i must add). Most of the brand new cars you see today in Lagos are owned by Banks and Bankers respectively. What is really going on? they make so much profit yet their dividends are peanuts, that's because they have used up all the cash to buy flashy cars and all.

Personally i think this should be checked, The Banking industry is not the only industry in Nigeria, they should work more on improving their skeletal services rather than posing and flashing expensive items around town. Advertisement  on radio and TV should be minimized, its a corporate institution not a departmental store.

hey Wink Smiley why the hatered, you have some point  but i feel every body has a right to enjoy life if they have the resources the only dishearten thing there is that most of this things are bought on loan with high interest rate on them. Any way it's  their business.

@ poster

you  do have a point but the suprising thing is that they are not so well paid.I think what they are trying to do is to create an image which is not a bad thing but  becomes one when you try to over do it which is what majority of these so called bankers do.

you are right my friend. They have made house rent, food and even clothes to be expensive. Some Lanlords will even tell you out rightly that they give their houses to only bankers, because bankers can pay any amount they tell them. Nigeria is a very funny country, that is why the banks are waxing and growing everyday while manufacturing industries are collapsing. Have you tried to find out why?

I'm sure the poster would like them to be subservient to you to make you feel better about yourself. What's your business how someone spends his money, regardless of where he works? Do you feel that they should dress shabbily to make you feel good?!!!

hater, stop whining. You don't even know a third of the risks bankers undertake. Banking is not all about  flashy cars and snazzy cell phones. If you work in a cement manufacturing company and you feel like dressing up and driving a fast car, by all means go ahead. Stop hating ok. we do a lot of work and hardly have time for ourselves. we cant go into mourning just to make people like you feel better.

Lmao! It's AMAZING the kind of rubbish topic that make it the home page. Seriously, is there a silliness criteria or is it at the discretion of the Admin? Oh wait, what am I saying. . . it's the same thing, no? I mean the sillier it is, the more likely admin will find it Home page worthy, innit.

Okay now, let me too think of my own topics. . .

Why do Army officers wear Uniforms?
Why do lawyers wear nightrobe and headnet?
Why do rich people have money?
Why do women wear skirts and Iro & Buba?

I support!!!!

Some banks do not accept anybody above 26 yrs, after that will extract a promise of not marrying for the next two years. all of this to keep you in good sexy shape.

more to that i was thinking today that banks are like glorified brothel where you;

* catch them in their prime
* send them out to get money at all cost (a manager told a girl meet your target anyhow "bankers you know now")
* send the money in get our cut (salary) or get your sack letter
*  ???

As long as they do their job, whats wrong if a banker uses a new car or dresses flashy, most of these guys travel frequently or have friends and relatives overseas via which they can order for good clothes shoes, etc. So pls dont beef!, I saw your point but its all mixed up!, i wanna believe that you are refering to M.Ds and Chief executive cos' they are the ones who colaborated with state governors to steal money by laundering it on their behalf, Or hurd the US dollar and sell to foreign mallams on the street in a striving black market.
While i'm not a banker, i'm proud of bankers in Nigeria, they are examples that the Nigerian Middle class isnt dead. The death of a middle class is the death of that country's economy. That is why in the USA even during thurf economy times like this, the government strives to make sure the middle class stays healthy.  Funds from middle class in Nigeria circulates faster than the federal and state budgets put together. While budget goes mostly to corporations via contracts. The middle class funds goes directly to the market sellers. If the middle class is starved, iya basira wont sell her food stuff and she will be complaining of bad market.
So lets give props to the bankers for spending, while we encourage other middle class people like those in the oil sector, insurance, manufacturing etc to bring out their money and not burry it in a coffin like our state governments.

Where did you get those facts from? Banks and fixed deposits are the reasons why money doesn't circulate in the country! Take salary delays for a good example. And who says Iya Basira depends on bankers?  On what EXACTLY do you think these banks should be spending? Glo sponsors our sports while banks tell you to open accounts to win generators and cars! I like bankers (have a lot of them as friends) BUT you CAN'T tell me you're proud of our banks' input to society because 'Iya Basira's market' is booming!
