There you go again with your senseless ideas, come to think of it, how can a security of a bank have this whole time online.

Anyway, in my local tongue, there's what we call "KWARA-KWARA-KI", that exactly what you are. Over sabi house wife.

I bet you guy, what you have posted entails a lot of beefing for bankers.I am not one though, but i can tell you that those bankers go through a lot of hell.imagine a job that gets you off your bed @ 5.am and you don't get back home until sometimes 9,10 or even 11.pm.Monday through Friday and Saturdays sometimes. what time do they have for themselves to enjoy their so called salaries which is majorly marred by loans, let them enjoy the flashy cars and all that but believe me they are still not living fine inspite of the so-called fat salary compared to the oil and telecommunication workers.

JAH bless thee, cos your spoke base on reality and not like some over sabi house wives. One good thing being a banker does is open you up to connections and lots of possitive exposures, so rather than some people hanging themselves, they should learn from the masters. Shikena!

I am very impressed by this post. This guy will succed in his profession. I wish all the other bankers can learn a thing or two from this guy. But the fact still remains that most Nigerian bankers are airheads. And they better start praying that this 2009 doesn't kick them back to unemployment, it's gonna be a tough year for banks and financial sector. Oil runs Nigerian economy and with the price of oil steadily going down, i fear.

it is disheartening to see the way people lash out at bankers and insult them. if only they know what these people go through everyday. i wish some of them could trade places for just an hour with these bankers and i'm sure their views would change. i guess he who wear the shoe that knows where it pinches the most Sad

Naija and title -  everyone who works in a bank - from tellers to interns to marketers to IT personnel to customer service to security gurds to cleaners is a 'banker'

ditto for engineering - every technicain , artisan, drafter, technologist is an 'engineer'

the problem is that nigerians are obsessed with 'image'we value form over function. Most of the people actually running these banks don't know the first thing about the profession and entered into it becuse they saw it as a way to make money - so their main goal is to look the walk, rather than walk it

i'm an engineer in an indigenous oil company, and i see the same thing. if management had their way, engineers would probly be wearing tuxedos in the field, all in the name of creating a 'proper corporate image'

I am grateful I don't work in a bank, can't see myself burning all my money on expensive suits and being trapped in a ridicolus cycle of 'representing' as a 'big boy '

We've all spoken well. I would have been surprised if everyone supported or condemned the post. I, for one I started in the manufacturing industries (Guinness), then moved to the IT sector (ISP), then Diamond Bank, GTBank and lastly I am working for a bank in the UK. The truth is that the bankers have been made to live the way they do, not because they would have loved to but because of the norm at work and in the industry they find themselves. We should not beef the bankers but the banks themselves for not doing right what they are supposed to do as corporate organisations. The frontliners we see in the banks are the poor diploma staffs trying so hard to look good so they are not asked to go home. And who says the oil and telecoms workers are not flamboyant? The only difference is that the bankers wears suits while the others dress down. The oil and telecoms workers still drive the better cars I must tell you. And who says bankers abroad don't dress up? The people you see in the banking halls abroad are not pure bankers and will never be. They are simply customer advisors. The core bankers operate behind the scenes and are as flamboyant/lavish as their Nigerian counterpart. My dear, it is the nature of the business. You must look good! Someone said landlords give houses to bankers because they are ready to pay any amount. That is not true! Landlords are more worried about security of the pockets rather than how much you want to offer. That is why a landlord trusts that a banker will most likely get an upfront payment to pay his rent rather than someone from some manufacturing company. Am not saying they don't earn as much but the fact that most landlords are so myopic that they refer to bankers as if they own the money they protect. This should not be the bankers' fault anyway. I will be stupid to dress like a banker to work if work for WAMCO or Guinness because am expected to dress down, unless of course I am one of the executives. Please don't beef the banker, but pray that he saves or invests enough to take care of himself should he sacked or retires. Remember the job is risky and there is no pension scheme in most of our banks today!!!

All of you making noise on this site about this topic in favour or not in favour of the bankers should SHUTUP and get a life, some moral and financial education is lacking and most of us Nigerians are illiterates in some areas, in the way our leaders are directing us,

Albeit, every employee in any industry has to conform with the dress code of its organisation. However, we Nigerians are ignorant, Lousy and toooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Materialistic. Everything has to be flashy, most Bankers are thief’s name anyone of the Directors or Manager's that doesn't steal the money of its customers and some of you guys are right by saying that the attitude of a few of them are brash, it shouldn't be like that, there should be a balance, however the citizens of Nigeria don't have a voice to stand-up for their selves, if anyone tries to speak out, they hardly get any backing.

Globally at the present time the world economy is in turmoil simply because of one of the many men in the banking sector, yet again stole  BERNIE MADOFF whole gambled away $50 Billion worldwide. We know the enrons of this world collided with bank managers to steal people’s money, but not any where near the scale of MADDOFF omo ole!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/19/bernie-maddoff-books-comi_n_152306.html

http://current.com/items/89624031/maddoff_s_50_billion_victim_list_grows.htm

When I was working for Guarantee Trust Bank, then in 1995 a notable number of Managers stole over a million Naira each, my brother in law, also stole money from one of the banks, now this guy has like 8 cars after 16yrs,  bought series of property with the money and also travels every year all over the world with his family, with his ill gotten gain.

Yet the mama alata, the barber, the butcher etc that kept there money in trust with them because of omo ole, willingly surrendered all their hard labour to the thief’s in tie.

Bankers all over the world aren't to be trusted, yet the government always come to there rescue to bail them out, because of the economic survival of any country depends on banks, they are always the Winners and the Common man the looser. They have access to steal using their pen, without serious reparcaution sometimes, unlike the average 419er 's or armed robbers.

In the UK at this very minute they aren't also free from corruption, this thing isn't only endemic in Africa, its just that we've been stigmatized because they are jealous about our oil, which we are mis-managing, this is bringing untold hardships to the wealthy Nigerians, yet who live in poverty.

Going back to the UK corruption issues, at least you can report people, your boss or a neighbour and the police will investigate if they feel you have enough evidence, Bankers dress smartly but not flamboyantly like the Nigerian counter parts, which are ignorant and just want everyone to feel or know they've arrived on stolen or borrowed money.

We as Nigerians need to wakeup and acquire more education on what is an appropriate or inappropriate and acceptable or unacceptable way for people in position of trust should behave. Once upon a time, Tunde Idiagbon tried restoring that back in Nigeria, but thanks to Uncle I.B.B who said trust wasn't a vital value to run an economy or a nation on, we are now paying the price of ignorance and not standing up as one-Voice, saying we want Amendment one to be included in our constitution like that of the US.

** MAY GOD BLESS NIGERIA **

we should all start by building trust in our homes, marriages, amongst colleagues, in the market place, schools etc before our children take on our general views on greed and impatience. when it comes to issues surrounding money, wealth and public funds, the list is endless.

Then we can send the message to our leaders that we as a people are infact tired of the way things are and how we are led
