@poster
Why d'nt you  beef those in the entertainment industry for showing off, afterall it's  your money they are using indirectly  why bankers? ,  Is it because of your money? i guess its only normal for you to think everything bankers own is as a result of your money. Bankers apart from their job have knowledge on investment and making money venture and perhaps  put themselves at many risk and stress that  is worth their glamourous life and if they are x- symbols they are role models to learn from
but your point is well taking they should,nt raise shoulder while doing their jobs

i get poster's drift. Topics like this are usually borne out of some prior experience.

However, Banks are not the only flashy sector. like someone pointed out it is a sector where image is everything especially for marketing and CSU. Note that most of those below 100k earners are actually contract staff.Banks in many cases pay more than telecoms from the few (enrtry level ) comparisons i have done. Also, note that bankers have more info concerning investment mediums. I however would prefer to work in telecoms rather than banks especially because of my career path (IT).

Also, except for operations, most bank staff close by 5pm. Even some operations staff do same. IT is the major dept notorious for closing late. some marketers even go home by 2pm. Note that a good number of operations staff are contract staff.

For the customer service thing, i personally have noticed it but we shouldn't generalize. You see tellers and CSU people looking down at customers. It is better in the cities. Where i did my NYSC the tellers see customers like slaves and expect so much gratitude when they help u check your acc. balance or do a transaction. they had a very very proud attitude. maybe because a bulk of customers were students and peasants. For CSU, some of the new generation banks are doing better but if it is about treating people well irrespective of social status then it boils down to personality and not industry/sector. A true gentleman treats people at the lower ranks of social status (almost) as they would treat those up there. Most of the tellers i've noticed doing it are usually young ladies who looks, personality and wealth matter so much to.

I enjoyed the story of the oil worker on jeans whom the teller didn't pay attention to until she saw his balance.

@ poster,

if you care to know and make your research well,

you will discover that most bankers are living on borrowed money,

i wonder why there was so much harshness in the tone of your post.

It pains to waist this precious time and energy writing or commenting on an issue as serious as this, when we all know that the bankers don't even have time for themselves talk less to seat down to think about how pple look at them, or even have time to read all this stuff displayed here, which I consider most valuable to those who are sensible and reasonable to themselves. But it will be good for  security reason for the to remain conservatives. But if they decides to throw around the money the supose to add to our dividend, good the BIGBOYZ r watching them.

As the saying goes 'the life worth living worth examining"
Assuming the will have time to think and read all this, I will personally complain of their  nonchalant attitude to their customers whom their money indeed pays their salary, Banks like Union banks should be close down in some areas, cos everything there is outdated and very lazy set of banks or rather not dedicated to the service. perhaps it is because mostly aged men and women, and as an old banks does not need more customers per say, of course most the pple in power hide their money their and alone keeps them going.

 Listen,
I am sure ,u don't get the point here, nobody is fighting nobody but like they say, "if u do your head like u r carrying meat the flies will sure follow u."  Telling ppl that u r working with "shell" (oil company) will  be endangering your life, sort of, And again your show-off shouldn't be at the expence of your customers, whom u refuse to attend to when the needed your attention. Borrowing to enable u live in luxury will be endangering your life,  Again should remember the saying, "he who goes on borrowing goes on sorrowing!"[/b][/b][/b]

we r getting it all wrong, nobody is against anybody enjoying his/her efforts. the truth is that only in this country that ppl borrow money to feast and celebrate, hire lemo to cruise around, hoping to pay back after the whole feasting. we borrow cloth here to attend a party, just to look nice b/4 others ,  cos we don't have, but why? We have a high regards of this ppl and we r saying moving around quietly enjoying 4 longer days would have been a wise decision than going around ringing gungs, just 2 be noticed is not an ideal life 4 them,  we love care for them , we want their saftey. Everybody in this society of ours today knows hw dangerous it is to carry money in the open,

I remember the saying that goes "All Dog eat excreta but only those mouth we found excreta that we nickname. So having meeting with u should be on other issue not on this, my message I think is quite clear. Be your broda's keeper and don't be "Cain."

Quote
Am a middle management staff of a new generation bank in Nigeria. well i don't see anything wrong with dressing well. abi you want to to see us like those old union bank staff. well the truth is that banks in Nigeria pay well and infact a friend of mine in a consulting firm told me that there is research conducted where it was agreed that banker earn better that even oil worker their reason is because in the oil industry when you are employed as an entry level staff you will start well with like 5M but you can remain on that scale for 5 years if your in the bank and on an average lane  you will be an SBO or AM where you can earn above that. The banking industry in Nigeria is thriving well because there is oil boom and what makes me sad is that these monies are in the hands of few and it hardly tricks to the real sector that actually grows the economy and one other thing that make me sad these days is the promos banks do in  Nigeria haba banking is soppose to be a conservative profession like medicine or Law but are now asking people to open account and win generator or Okada haba like indomie or Maggi seller   well i don't have a choice for now but that is really disappointing  but i like the carriage we have  and the KUZA

really bankers more than oil workers - do you mean oil worker staff or oil worker contract staff ,  Minimum I have seen in an oil company is 7million entry level - This rises to 13 million in some companies. That is entry level - Progression is 3 years to 11 million to 18 million ,  Need I continue. To the level where a guy earns 8 mil per month!! You really wanna confirm who is doing the comparison. And when you do tell me - so man go know where to go work next!!

Damn I can tell who are bankers here- The FACTS

Bankers in Nigeria are nothing but dignified slaves. The working hours disgust me. However I do not blame the bankers - I blame the govt for not strong arming against the banks. There is no reason why a banker should close at or after 7pm - NO REASON!! Banks can target closing at this time!! It is a sign of mismanagement workers close that late.

Sad to say - there is no way I can date a female banker - I dont trust them - I dont trust the environment you work in. Yes I am damn insecure and cant stand another man chasing my woman while she tries to get the cash for the house. If I marry a female banker - I would do my best to make sure she gets another job!! Yup - Even the so called good ones ,  GOD help them!!
