I really don't know why there is so much noise about working in a bank in nigeria, my cousin worked for one of the biggest banks (Oceanic bank) and i felt sorry for him. With all the stress he goes through, some fast food employees in the states earn far more than he does with limited stress.

@bebe2007 no mind dem jare. You have told the truth and if they like they should take to it.Infact i have even wanted to ask the question that why are female bankers so disrespectful? It has been observed and even customers complain about them, the way they talk(especially ladies).I think this is an avenue for the in-house bankers, especially the ladies to take heed or else,

painting bankers in 'bad-light' is at best a far-fetched scenario! What would you say about the bogey politician ? Its just the kind of society that we live in that makes the average banker a kinda celibrity. The down-turn in the economy is not helping matters too,a situation whereby the average Nigerian cannot readily afford a quality 3 square meal to me is the lowest ebb.
Fine banker may have there own 'other-side'yet it does not justify the unsavory comments.i rest my case!

Just to correct a notion:

Some have said oil company workers might not be promoted in 5 years. While this may be true in a limited number of cases, it is noteworthy to understand that an oil workers salary increases at an average of 20% annually (guaranteed) even if he doesn't get any promotion. I wouldn't want to go into how this works out right now.

For bankers, well, na their money!!

Whats your problem about bankers for God sake,  Please seun close off the thread and let the bankers enjoy the fruit of their labour, u'll do not know what it takes to be one and thats why you are putting eye on them everytime and if u feel u can do better than all they are doing please go and enroll urself in such a field and give bankers piece for Heaven sake.

This farotika guy is very funny, you must be a bank worker or your parents are. My cousin worked as a "senior banking officer" or some sh*t like that. He worked for them for years. Bank workers are glorified slaves. I don't blame you, it seems like you are not that exposed.

just a minute,@ poster, have you stopped to consider what they are paying them for, they are paying them for the life they are giving up especially the ladies,no social life and even the gajing only attract a few gestures from men here and there,if a lady joins a bank without a man in her kitten, she may stay there 10 years nothing, that is one thing i will stop when i get to the rock, bankers don't have a real life, even when they try to have one,it is run for them by God knows who,it is a practice that will surely truncate our socio-cultural existence. i hope someone stands up to this before i do

I very much disagree on this one bros y u feel say dem dey give us all d heat 4 work,so that u can smile home with huge dividends which u can't get elsewhere in the world. You'll also agree with me that bankers of this generation are much younger so that also explains our lifestyle.Bros e be like say banker don chase your babe b4 Grin

my friend I forgive u, mainly cause I know it can be hard to see all that and not have some. but let me address you're questions. u see u live in a country where image is everything so wake up and smell the coffee,  u might get annoyed to see banks and bankers spend money but remember its not your money they spend, its the returns made after they use your money in investment windows you could never know or even participate in. as for the flashy cloths, cars and general levels. u're a black man i suppose? would u trust your millions to me if i stepped in your office looking hungry? my man its an image thing.

people, a banker has to sell himself first before he sells his products. so de shd be left alone. its part of selling. de are trained to look good and to keep their heads high. no customer would love to keep his money with an unkept banker. so u c? dey ought to flaunt what they'v got. u wd be taught the same wen u get employed in d bank.

Let us see the poster's point from another perspective. If Banks are the custodians of a nations wealth and if the banks in Nigeria become overly flambouyant and live on the fast lane there is every reason to believe that in the long (or short run) these banks will begin to engage in some high-risk ventures in other to mantain their lifestyle (or is it workstyle) and if something goes wrong just like it did in USA, who do you think will bear the brunt of the crises if not the average poor Nigerian who has his life savings in one of these banks.

Bankers beware!!!   Wink Wink Wink

@ poster, the fact that they choose to live a flambouyant live is their choice and i think they work their ass up as well, the only thing i don't really don't fancy is their rudeness, when you go into a bank, your dressing is what they use in judging you but i think as time goes on things will change, fewer staffs will be needed in the banks as Nigeria becomes more developed and the few there will not be over-rated
