Why Are English Players Addicted To Betting?
« on: April 11, 2006, 12:34 AM »

England has produced quite a lot of good players.  Gaza, Lineker, Beckham and to the new generation like Wayne Rooney.

For years, their major problem is  BETTING.

John Terry, Michael Owen, Rooney etc has been involved in one time or the other.

John Terry earn £90,000 a week while Rooney earn £50,000. Is this not enough for players that just kick around inflated balloon?

What is responsible for this?

Here is the newest betting scandal involving Wayne Rooney: http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/story_pages/sport/sport3.shtml

Few weeks ago, when John's name was mentioned in betting, this is what his Coach, Jose Mourinho says  " In England, Betting is in their culture, any corner you goes to one will see a Betting shop, in Portugal is not like that"

Is it a cutural thing as Jose says or the players are just greedy?

Very much a cultural thing.

But you have to remember that these guys do not live a normal life. They can't go to places without attracting attention- negative and positive. And like you, they also need to be able to unwind.
