We Are All Illiterates In Nigeria <original title>
Before you start hating have you tried checking a Nigerian University's website and half the time you don't know if you are reading Niger Republic's sea-port website. I tried a few Nigerian University sites and my impression was this:
Lautech:Their site looks like a local shaki and Gbegiri Joint.
Uniben. These guys favour anachronisms; site is probably hosted on a VHS player.
UI: After all the trouble the site looks like it's constructed with French curves and crayon.
UJos: The programmer used microsoft paint. No shaking.
ABU; resembles a web directory for unlicensed dentists.
UNN: Retired cocoa-farmers blog.
Bowen: Probably waiting for new domain name ".ch"
Covenant: the only degree they offer is In Karate.
Unilag: last time I checked they were deciding who owns bandwith. Federal Government of Nigeria or Lagos State Government.
And about the title. Seun said to Use descriptives " Illiterates". I really wonder what our programmers are doing! Computer science is the most evolving field today and yet the attitude of our computer scientists even at institutes of learning is lackadaisic

ESUT the worst? That site has been under construction ever since i was a toddler. Its a shame all 'em computer engineers cannot come up with a decent website. Its a double shame ESUT is my alma mater.

my apologies about the poor "titling." after all has been said i am surprised at even the logo's of the school. Its sad that only a few people understand the enormity of the unprofessional attitude of our schools.-My dad even told me he'D rather hire an HND holder than many Bsc holders._Thought!

Chineke! which kind of country is this? Are they producing "Computer engineers" at all?
I once remember the hilarious incident of one of my level mates in college in nigeria who had to call a friend to help her boot a computer (she did not know where the start-up button was on the CPU) Wait for it, she was in her final yr computer science dept!

stop blaming computer scientists and computer engineers. not all of us like or even give a damn about web development. Designing websites is very different from web applications programming, I personally hire people temporarily to come up with a design template for me while I work on the actual code, gotta stick up for my folks you know blame the designers

el_cij, you speak the truth my brother. However as a web designer/developer/architect myself, I will say that based on professional and personal experience, all the developer work can come to nought if the user doesn't have a nice user experience. I can't tell you how many times I have had to change the design of a site based on the results of usability testing. In the end, sure, tis the web app that runs the show, but if the goat is not well dressed, na who go chop am? To me, the whole thing is a symbiotic relationship
