I don't think its right for Africans to look down on African Americans, but you have to face one truth, the lazyiness, violence, irresponsibility displayed by some is and will never be praiseworthy, just like it will never be in Africa.
Okay I have one problem with that statement. White people committ more violent crimes than black people. Well the last time I checked the statistics they did.
Why did you start this thread?

The continental Africans that migrate to the West are not a fair representation of continental Africans. Migrants are often well educated, wealthier and more ambitious than their peers back home.So comparing migrant continental Africans with the average African-American is ridiculous.
Point of correction. The continental Africans that migrate to the West (90%) are not a fair representation of continental Africans. Migrants are often not well educated or better still stark illiterates ,from very poor homes and more ambitious than their peers back home by cleaning the streets , toilets , prostituting and selling drugs to name a few.

76% of the AA population is of middle and upper class status. AA are ranked within the top 2% of the worlds most affluent groups of people. AA contribute for nearly $1Trill of the American value, and rising steadily. AA are currently the nations top business developers, increasing their business ownership level faster than any other group. Also, amongst all minority groups, they are the amogst most successful at establishing high end institutions, percentage wise. In other words, we aim for high-end establishments and are rarely seen attempting to build small mom and pop shops and corner stores and such in which tend to stick out most as minority establishments. Apposed to what many seem to believe, only about 30% of AA males, have ever spent any amount of time in jail period. The length of time is not of question in this statistic. Many seem to think that 30% of the AA male population is currently in jail. Well obviously those individuals do not have a strong grasp of the number of people whom are in the prison system and further more the number of AA males whom current preside in this nation, and or a decent grasp of mathematics using percentages. Let's do some math and myth busting here people; there's about 2Mill people in Prison today here in the US. About 45% are said to be AA's, but let's make this simple and just say half are. So that's 50% of 2Mill prisoners are AA, and that of course means that 1Mill of the prisoners are AA. Now today there's about 22Mill AA males in the United States today; 30% of 22Mill is about 6.6Mill. So right there that proves that those who are saying that 30% of the AA male population is in jail are clearly talking out their ass, and have an agenda to push, in that 30% of the AA male population is equivalent to 6.6Mill AA men and yet there's only about 2Mill people period in the American prison system. Further more, less than half of those people are AA period, and secondly about a good 1/4 or 25% of the AA in prison are AA FEMALES. So that that demolishes those idiots claims even more. Get your shit right before posting on any site where I'm member to, because if I see it and it isn't correct, I'm going to embarrass you, and bury you with your own dirt you throw about the area. Violent crime, Teen pregnancy, smoking, drinking and illegal drug use have all dropped most significantly amongst the AA population than in both the Hispanic and white American populations, and while school attendance amongst Hispanic American kids has dropped and tampered off since 2000, not changed for white American kids, it has increased for AA kids. Home ownership growth, despite a progressive recession is up amongst AA families, though it is White Americans whom are foreclosuring at the highest rate, thus showing that AA are buying their homes in a more wisely manner than their counter. Alot of talk is showing that the debt rate of the AA population has grown significantly over the years, though they do not show that this debt is conducive of a population growing more affluent and educated. Most of this debt is made up of funds in connect with school loans for college as more and more AA are now attend college or other forms of advanced training than ever before, housing loans and car loans as more AA are now finding the confidence in their work positions to purchase cars instead of depending on public transportation, and new homes instead of renting all the time. This is the real Afro-America, people. You are attempting to paint an image of members of a 2% minority of the African population in which manage to gain the means and backing to come here to the US and do well, to the the entire AA population. That's retarded, and dose you no service. Making comparison in this situation is stupid in the first place, though if one is content on doing so, at do so by comparing oranges to oranges and apples to apples so to say. You can't compare an AA whose family has been ghetto bound their entire existence to an African whose family is filled with doctors and lawyers, and expect them to be of the same mind and soundness in life, just a I would not expect an African from a rundown shanty town to be able to hold the same values educational standings as an AA from a well off family of professionals and affluence.

Black America may be the wealthiest group of black people on earth but it has precious little to do with their own industry but more to do with their accident of birth
This is hilarious. Hve you read Black Enterprise, Essence, Ebony magazine? Have you read about all of the black CEO'S UNDER the age of thirty.? Black owning their own restaurants. I recently saw a photo of Tyra Banks coming out of the biggest African American bank in the USA. We have our own bus line Greyhound,tv stations (BET,TV1,BLACK STARZ, UPN) yes some of the stuff they show is degrading but alot of it is positive also, hotels, restaurants, soaps, lotions.
Why is it so hard for Africans to admit that although alot of African Americans are lazy and don't take most of their advantages, alot of African Americans are doing the damn thang.
Alot of African Amercians are doing damn good.
Admit it. Alot of African Americans are doing swell.

Only 30% of AA males ever having been in jail, I'm sorry but that percentage is rather high, whats "only" about it?
Girl 22, I for one know there are many successful AA's, I know some. Now , maybe you need to address your own belief that Africans have not contributed to the world, all you have mentioned are things that Africans even in your own country are doing also, and they have been there for a less amount of time. It doesn't take away from the achievement, but you can't expect people to lick your boots because of it. AA's have been in America for hundreds of years, its only right that by now, they should own restaurants, hotels, banks etc.
If some Africans are ignorant about AA achievements, leave them in it, don't join them in their assumptions.

Yeah, that's jail, not prison. You can go to jail for a couple of days if you are late paying a parking ticket. You can go to jail for a few hours if you threaten a police officer, you can go to jail for a few months if you are late on your child support payments, all of these are minor offenses in which tons of people of all races find themselves catching cases on on a daily basis. The vast, vast majority of AA whom have spent time in jail have dones so over minor infractions such as these and not over major ones-- such as drug pushing, murder and such. Overall, about 30% of the entire American male population has spent some time in jail--- whether it be a few hours and or years. You say that we AA have been here for hundreds of years; yes this is true, though that doesn't mean were free to succeed in elevating our standings in this land for that long my friend. It wasn't until 1865 that slavery was officially ended in this nation and even that took a civil war to accomplish, and that all wasn't but 143yrs ago. Yet, although in the literal sense, we were freed--- in the general-- we weren't. It took an exhausting 110yrs more of painstaking Civil Rights movements in which resulted in the deaths of thousands through assassinations and other general forms of brutality, and negligence to even achieve our general constitutional rights as Americans and human beings here in this nation to some reasonable standard and it has only been about 40 years since then, Ace. 40 Years of some general REAL freedom. Get your facts strait.

Did you that an AA, Ronald A. Williams, is the president of the $17.9 billion Aetna Inc? AA, Paula Madison, is president and general manager of Los Angeles-based KNBC and regional manager for two Telemundo stations? NO? How is it that we blacks and even more so AA's only know of our AA entertainers who are doing big, big things in this world? I find that to be a crime against our very being. In time I plan to be on that list of great AA leaders. My connections are growing, my finances are stacking and my influence is spreading fast, and I know at least 25 other YOUNG AA brother and sisters just like me, and I'm only 1 out of 44Mill. God knows how many thousands more their could be out there, yet oddly never get talked about as they're overshadowed by a media ploy to exploit our communities negatives as the norm of our large, rich and vibrant community as a whole. Cant you folks see the ploy? You Nigerians/Africans should know that AA are dynamic in much more than just sports and music, all it takes is a bit of reading of credible sources to see how we are quickly excelling in the fields of business and science as well. We are the nations fastest growing group economically, expanding at more than 10% faster than national rate. We are contributing more CEO's and Managers to the nation than any other group in the nation per capita. By the end of this year the AA GNP will BLOW pass the TRILLION $ mark, or that AA have the fastest decreasing rate of dependency on federal welfare programs, teen pregnancies, drug users, cigarette smokers, high school drop outs and more in the nation? What about having the fastest growing rate of home owners, middle and upper class citizens and federal office holders in the nation? NO? Why dose no one seem to know about all of these mounting positives, yet know all too well all about the scraps of negatives?

@ Hero, I don't think anyone thinks it beyond belief that AA can achieve, and is doing great things, but what I think is that girl 22 came on a Nigerian forum with an attacking agenda. The examples you have given are way better than claiming someone invented soap (when they improved it), and then insinuating that Africans have not achieved much or anything. Like someone said "You can believe in a stone but don't throw it at me." She can believe Nigerians or the whole African continent are useless but she can't expect to make that comment on a Nigerian forum and get away with it.

I know my facts Hero, I'm not new to the achievements of AA's neither am I ignorant of your struggle in America, in fact if the truth be known, it is AA's and Americans as a whole who delight in their lack of information about the achievements of other nationalities.

@ Poster I don't subscribe to one group being better than the other but for God's sake when has invention been the yardstick for comparison. People would invent things relevant to their every day life. So an American would not invent a yam pounder nor cassava grinder because he is not aware of the need for one. By the same arguement you can not expect me in Africa to invent things base on a experiences I haven't had. The bottom line is people do not like all people you just have to be confident in yourself why bother try to defend yourself against peoples thinking? Its not going to change anything. Get on with your like be happy with who you are and what you know.

Before everyone champions Obama as the great black Champion that will bring pride to the AA race the only reason he is greatly considered is becuase he is mixed. Everyone forgets this fact, he is only half black, say he was full black and dark he probably would not be given the chance he has now. So in truth America still has some way to go.
