Like I said earlier all poor people don't get financial aid. I've people both black and white who have gotten turned down for financial aid and it wasn't beause of they're grades either.

Some of the comments on this board are appaling. Davidylan, for once, what's your gripe with AA? Not all of them are in prison for goodness sake. You guys have got to realize that the laws leading to the high rise of AA males in prison is simply unfair and racist. I don't support drug use, but I have been following on the news that the sentences meted out to a black caught using crack is harsher than that of a white using the same drug, in as much as it is called Cocaine. I don't know too much about it, but Rangel is calling for a change of the law.

Now, another news. A black man was recently freed from jail in Dallas, after spending about 2 decades in prison for a crime he did not commit. Blacks have gone through the highs and lows in the country. Yeah, they build washington DC, as you Davidylan wrote, but you called them tenants. But would the system allow them to be landlords? Turn around and compare their experiences with some minority groups in Nigeria. Like the Ijaws who are the oil producing tribe in the nations, but are forced to rely on peanuts/handouts for their survival. Life is not fair. We need to have an open attitude towards black Americans. In as much as they are one or two generations away from Africa, still, some of them have a genuine desire to be affiliated back home, but lack the resources and information about home. Yeah, they are some who are racist towards us, but there are some Nigerians/Africans who are racist towards them.

By the way, if it wasnt for MLK, I am certain that the progress attained by immigrants would have been impossible. Nevertheless, black americans, as dire as their situation may be is one of the wealthiest black nation in the world. can you beat that?

There is racism and injustice in America to blacks but are continental Africans not blacks? They get their own fair share of the injustice but that did not deter them from pursuing their goals, there are thousands of continental African professional living in the US and racism and injustice did not stop them, why can't the AA's use the same opportunity?

Like I said to the poster about the topic and how ignorant it was. This statement is full of ignorance as well.

Now lets be real, there are many African Americans that have college degrees, nice jobs, and owners of business. They are not stopped by injustice and racism.

My question is this: Why are African Americans trying to say they are better than Nigerians and Nigerians saying they are better than African Americans? (I know with this thread that African Americans started this but still)

I wonder what you mean by that!! If education is not compulsory in the US so many of AA's youths will not go to school, I know many of them have degrees and a good percentage of them for that matter, but what that lady girl22 is echoing here is very normal in them "that certificates are useless"

African Amerians did invent those things.LOL Look I wan't trying to diss Africans. Its just that I was upset that alot of Africans were downing Africans Americans on this board. I have nothing against Africans. I agree integration was stupid. Because African Americans didn't build up their communities. They just moved into the white communities.

I was just upset at the time I was typing.  I didn't mean those things I was saying. I was just fustrating at some of the negative things I read about black Americans.

I don't think its right for Africans to look down on African Americans, but you have to face one truth, the lazyiness, violence, irresponsibility displayed by some  is and will never be praiseworthy, just like it will never be in Africa.

@girl22, yes they probably do in number, but I don't know if they do in  proportion to their representation, notwithstanding the fact that they are well represented in other more positive  areas of society. I'm not just talking about crime, there is crime everywhere, but the truth is often a hard pill to swallow for anyone.

Some of the things I have witnessed from being around a few ethnic minority groups in the states, just highlighted some of the stereotypes AA's, I think we should do more to agknowledge the origins of challenges which seem to be present in the AA community also. To bury your head in the sand is not the way to go. You can't afford to do that, the crime, drugs, breakdown of the family is not something that community at large can absorb and doesn't seem to be counteracting enough.

Its like saying that, because they are so many great Africans in many fields, that we don't still have to admit our obvious shortcomings.

No immigrant, be they African or otherwise will ever be able to understand a Black American or indeed any other ethnic group seemingly refusing to take up educational opportunities laid before her/him.

When you break it down, you probably don't understand it yourself, if you come across it.

Its good for you to offer up information about the achievements of AA's , but you do a disservice to those people if you use it to accuse Africans.
