Discussion Area For Medical Students
« on: April 11, 2006, 10:23 PM »

Hi, i think it would be a good idea for medical students to discuss on what we are taught. I am a pre-clinical student studying anatomy, physiology and biochemistry.

@larger_20,

yeah, am a second  semester medical student @ University of california San- diego, About the HIV, I really want to tell u guys that there will be a medical cure for it but the slick thing about that virus is that it belongs to a rare group called the retro-virus. I.E: they invade your cell as RNA which gives them exclusive access your nucleus where they shed their protective covering and use your cell components to replicate back to DNA in reverse manner. The clinical difficulties with this scenario is that it is so hard to find an antibiotics that will kill the virus without killing cellls needed for normal body activities. this is mainky because the virus gets so integrated to the molecular component of the body. there are some drugs however that stops the spread of the virus by killing off cells that have been infected, while blocking the replication of the virus RNA at some point during the process, but this pill is mainly effective at the onset of the infection. The other pills only prolongs live span of patients by slowing down the conversion of the virus into full blown AIDS. So this is the situation,, and know that the pharmaco-biological scientiests will have themselves a handful in the distant future, good luck with school, cheers Wink
