@I-man

If his strategy of waiting for Super Tuesday worksit would make a mockery of the whole nominating process in my opinion.

Iowa and New Hampshire wouldn't be half as important the elections four years hence

On Obama-------------I think his major obstacle is the party establishment itself.

I don't think the Congressional party feels he can win against any of the Republicans
in November.

Tragic thing is---------I think they are right Sad

@Loyika

The GOP has 2 major camps-fiscal conservatives and social conservatives.Rudy has better chances of winning with the former,Huckabee is strong with the latter.

Huckabee's greatest strenght is with social conservatives who ascribe to his Christianity-themed messages and his populist economic views.

However,even social conservatives are pragmatists.They recognise that the GOP is less popular now than in a long time and that a Huckabee has little chance  of beating either Obama or Clinton.Both McCain and Guliani are stronger candidates.What is the point of electing Huckabee to "overturn" Roe v Wade when is going to be slaughtered in the national polls?

For reasons of sheer pragmatism,many social conservatives would rather go for Guliani or McCain than Huckabee.Even Pat Robertson endorsed Guliani!

There are 47 states to go and Guliani leads in many of the big states like NY,California and Florida in the polls I have seen. For now,I still think its between McCain and Guliani,with Huckabee potentially the "surprise" nominee.

As for Romney,he may be the brightest of the whole lot but as ex-Bishop of the Church of Latter Day Saints. . . . . . .how come nobody gives Obama grief for his church?It has some fairly "unconventional" views

@doyin13

How does it make a mockery,there are simply more delegates from the bigger states and he doesn't have the money to contest in every state.

When I looked at head-to-head polls,Obama and Edwards did better against Republican candidates than Clinton.The Democrat Establishment is simply beholden to the Clintons.

I am rooting for Hillary. . . .much easier for Guliani to kick her butts in Nov 2008  Grin

Funniest story I heard this week was about the hecklers at Hillary's rallies wearing T-shirts  with the inscription,"Iron My Shirt" . . . . . .rumor has it that the Clinton campaign hired them to whip up feminist sentiments  Grin

You mentioned NY, Cali and Florida, have you noticed that these are all Liberal states (Even if Arnie won the Guv seat based on pretty much conservative views).

Rudy G might get some Cons support, but i ask again, how will he get the Evangelicals on his side Huh Those guys are fanatical, and won't support anyone that is seen as waivering when it comes to the Gay Marriage stuff (With or with out Roe vs Wade).

Rudy will probaly get some states, but if he wins and Hilary gets the ticket for the Dems Shocked Shocked THE ELECTION WILL BE BLOODY!! EVen worst than Kerry v Bush!!

McCain will pretty much be a concensus candidate, but i doubt the reps will be chuffed to have him as President Grin Most dems would probably vote for him just to rub salt into it Grin Grin

Is Florida Liberal now Shocked

and how liberal is NY state anyway. Ny city and state once were in republican hands(still are actually). I guess the congressional seats are a true indication
of the political leaning of a state.

I think the major issue in Florida and Cali will be the immigration issue for obvious reasons. And McCain I believe is pretty solid
as is Romney. So its no Giuliani walk over

He doesn't need to get Evangelicals on side.There are enough Evangelicals,like Pat Robertson demonstrated,who think that the most important issues for America are not "moral values" issues like abortion and gay marriage but national security-defeating "Islamo-fascism".

That is what Rudy brings to the table.If he gets enough of the independents votes,together with fiscal conservatives,he can win easily.The reality is that its McCain who poses the greatest threat to Guliani,not Huckabee.They are effectively fighting for the same demographics.

In a 2 horse race between Rudy and Huckabee,I'm confident Guliani will win handsomely.

Huckabee benefits from being the only major evangelical in the race.He has nobody to split the evangelical votes with,unlike McCain,Rudy and Romney who are often fighting over the same demographics.I'm sure the Republican establishment will find a way of stopping of McCain and Huckabee

But is national security and Islamo-fascism still as salient an issue, say four years ago.

Considering the subprime crisis-------i reckon ''its the economy stupid'' that is uppermost on the list of issues

as is the reform of the healthcare system. I would back Romney on that issue.

Unless one considers Immigration a national security issue-----i would include McCain in the list.

Well i guess you are considering the Jeb Bush factor.

Compared to other Red Neck states like Texas, Missouri, Missisipi and others, Florida is Liberal, especially going down towards cities like Miami with the Immigrant culture and mixed raced nature of the place.

The Floridians  Undecided are quite religious (more a a result of Race), but its more a mixed religious setting, with divisions between Catholics (Hispanics) Evangelicals (Mostly Blacks) Protestants andf the JuJu merchants Grin (mostly haitian blacks).

Basically, Florida is not as conservative as say Texas. I mean they have Disney Land for petes sakes!! Grin Grin How Liberal can you get. Grin

Thats why i mentioned it as being liberal.

Actually,that's a significant part of the Huckabee resurgence that people are overlooking.His economic populism resonates at a time of economic uncertainty.I thought the best line Huckabee gave was when he said that the difference between him and Romney was that while he reminds people of their co-worker,Romney reminds people of the boss who fired them.

That being said,I think many fiscal conservatives would prefer a Rudy who sounds more knowledgeable about the economy.Rudy simply needs to fine tune his message to include some of the populist rhetoric that will come in handy if the US slips into a recession.

This is another reason G.W Bush pissed me off.He basically ruined any chances of his more lucid brother ever becoming President.In any other election year,Jeb Bush would have been a shoo-in for the White House.

Pretty much what many have been saying on this thread:

Where's the Beef?    [Andrew Cline]

Here's my insta-theory on Clinton's victory. New Hampshire voters were supposed to reject her because they can see through a phony and she's a phony. But New Hampshire voters are also very well informed on policy.
(Sorry, Michigan, it's true.) There is no question they gave Obama a serious listen. And compared to Clinton, they found him lacking substance. (I heard exactly this on Monday night from voter after voter leaving Clinton's Manchester rally — all of them saying she'D won them over that night.) Clinton ran on policy proposals — not always super-specific — but her stump speeches were more detailed than those of Obama, who offered inspiration but little else. Democrats heard Obama and said, "Where's the beef?" And Clinton was standing there with a big ole rump steak tied around her neck.

For those who are unaware of the current trend in the american politics, there is a general clamour for CHANGE! The pendulum will therefore either swing to obama because he is a fresher or to hillary because of her gender advantage.
However, since america is not yet ready for a female president based on the realities on ground, i salute the first black president of america!!!

This does not completely explain Obama's loss yesterday. Polls still showed that he had most of the male votes sewn up but unlike Iowa, more female votes went to Hillary . . . considering the fact that 57% of all voters where women its easy to see how she won. Besides a lot of the independent voters that the dems expected actually cast ballots for Mccain.

i hope Obama dosent win, i don't have nothing against him but its time for a woman to win.  Its about time a woman shows what she can do for USA. Men have always won the presidential candidate seat and shown they can do something. But now that women can also get that same opportunity, its time for a change.  Hillary Clinton had the drive to go for that opportunity  and she should show everyone what she is capable of doing. :-)
