I stand to be corrected though, but i think UBA is a merger of STB ant the former UBA. As back as 80's UBA was better known as 'Useless Bank of Africa' and STB was one bank you visited on monday morning as the first day of the week and their system was down and before you knew it, it would as if you were at Oyingbo market by virtue of the customers left standing.Guess what no one would have the courtesy to let you know what is happening except for the fact that you will see the cashiers probably making up or doing something that interest them other than you. Now,my point is imagine the unoin of these two banks .I am sure you will say with me 'seeth thou what Soludo brought forth'

I think people that have problems should go to the UBA website and post a comment on their feedback form

http://www.ubagroup.com/contacts/feedback.asp

I will do this just now cause i have problems with the bank as well and really dislike the bank.
Anytime I ahve to go there or even just hear that name I am unhappy. This bank really needs to put major effort into their customer services. everything from problems clients have walking in to their staff attitudes and the culture of the whole organisation.

Hi,

I just decided to check this section of nairaland forum and i am not surprised at all with what i am reading. I use to bank with STB since 2001 and i have been enjoying their services until this merger saga.

Since they merged, i no go lie you, na because e don tey wey i open account with STB no make me leave them. But asides from ther mediocrity, i am still with them due to their vast branches scattered all over the country and this is the only reason i am still with them.

wow, UBA is getting some bad raps, i've been banking with them since 2002, so far, on a scale of 1 to 10 , i'd rate them a 6, they could do better, but they are not that bad.

I have accounts with PHB, GTBank, Ecobank and StandChart
I used STB and Oceanic when i was a Corper some years back and if i want to rate these banks 1-10, it'll go like this

PHB(3)
(i think this is the worst bank in Nigeria in terms of Customer service) They work as if they are doing u favours. I don't really know how much COT they charge but i think they are ripping me off!!!
I still can't use my ATM because the customer service people wont just call me as promised!
Consumer loan (retail people) are the worst!!!
u don't want to take a loan in PHB for real u don't want to do that.

and then, ill say I'm impressed with the legal and CAD unit. smartass people

PS: Mr. Atuche
kindly send some of your commercial and retail banking people home. They really don't know wassup
and FYI, one of your most prized products that u guys have on air (very popular). I think the product champion with the name C is a fluke. He knows next to nothing about banking!!!

and most improtantly, u guys should reduce the rate at which you churn out adverts, u can use that money to train your staff on how to attend to customers efficiently!

one last thing, why is it that after deposits, it takes hours before your guys effect the deposit
na wa for this bank o!!!

GTBank(9)
The best bank in Nigeria. I use the ATM, Mastercard, Dom, Current accts
People, i have no regrets so far with this bank
they are silent workers. No noise!!
Keep up the good work and to all GTbank people
1 million Gbosas for u people

Ecobank(5)
Una just dey try. Customer service is just average. U guys can improve. I stopped banking with this bank when complaints no go ever finish

Standard Chartered Bank (7)
i serviced a 36 months personal unsecured loan with these chaps and i think they smart ass people.
U guys can improve tho because i remember when one of my friends was supposed to withdraw some money from the Ibadan branch and he got the 'rudest' shock of his life when the Manager told him, they couldnt access his account that he had to do it in the VI branch
how bizzarre!!!

STB (5)
when i used STB, especially the Allen Branch, the only prob was crowd control. I don't think they still have that kind of issue tho. Now with the way our boiz abroad are flying to UBA House Marina, then they should have improved.
I don't think they are as bad as people are saying. Those complaining should try PHB

Oceanic (7)
i used this bank as a corper in Yola. nothing biggie. everything was smooth. No hassles.
I don't know wassup with them. ehn ehn that reminds me
i went to Ozumba one day to ask for where their Insurance Coys was located and the guy at the reception told me he had no idea. i asked him if he was going to get paid that month and he said YES emphatically. can u imagine?
u dey work for one place u no sabi wetin den dey do for there!!!

BankPHB yeah had an experience with a staff once.Asked about their education loan and all and she was like about 19 point sumthing. As a learned being,I told her 19 point sumthing is not a figure because it cud be 19.1% or 19.9% and she was so rude about the whole stuff, and yet she is in CUSTOMER SERVICE UNIT Angry

Those of you that have ATM and bank with UBA, Please i will advice you to register for SMS alert. You will be supprise what this bank is doing with your money. The deduction they have made on my account is horifying. During the xmas period, they made deductions on sms, account maintenance, ATMs, etc,  by december i withdrew some amount from my account leaving just about 2000. it was like they are agree with my withdrawal. i want to tell you that i have just N583.80. left in my account. at time i reseive three sms from them, deductions, credit, deductions, i went to their ATM machine find out and later to their head office at marina, the explanation is bizarre. i kukuma leave the balance for them. the cashier said if i have to close the account, i will forfeit my balance. UBA na wa for una style of banking.

Do we really blame Nigerian Banks for any reported inadequacies?

Let's take a closer look at things:
First, the power infrastructure in Nigeria is terrible. Most Banks can not keep up with the pace of customer demands because they virtually have to run all their services on diesel as PHCN is not helping.
ATM failures and disappointments are largely owing to poor Power and communication infrastructures. PHCN has a lot to answer (likewise NITEL?).
The Global economic meltdown is right now a Giant Straw that has broken the camel's back in the Nigerian Banking and Financial sector.
Individual greed and inadequacies of the banking 'Oga's and policy makers, too.

As anyone would see, we need to pray for Divine Intervention, especially with all the non-functional infrastructures here and there.

An online job may be a quick way out for individuals who need to make ends meet in the face of crunching inflation and job scarcity.
Even those who are already employed are afraid of the term "Sack" simply because of the high rate of job insecurity in current times.

UBA is really a useless bank. I have been trying to withdraw from my domicillary account for the past 1week but the story remains "Sorry we dont have dollar now". Your money is not safe with them and they have a lot of hidden charges.
What a hopeless bank!

Well all these serves them right. But you know what? Some Nigerians make so much as N150 000 and over monthly from what such banks are doing. Not all bad thing are bad you know.
