UBA isnt a customer friendly bank, im just coming out from the bank now before posting this. I had to withdraw some money and the lady gave me my money in N5 denomination. I blasted her and told her to change it for me to 200 or 500 notes but she refused. I told her im not a market woman or sales lady and that im a business man but she didnt make matter better and she still gave me in N5. This is hell because my pocket couldnt contain the money. I was mad wit her. Why will they give someone that comes to withdraw N5,000 five naira denomination which is 10 whole bundles. I guess soludo should take note of this and get some of this bank sanctioned. If im a terrorist i will just bomb all the UBA banks in the country. Intercontinental and GTB bank are the best. UBA staffs are scammers,

I'm happy this is out finally! We may have to stage a protest match someday I have a dollar account with them. Each time I receive wire in my account, they charge me and the sender, inspite of the fact that the sender ought to bear the wire cost alone. They will still charge the normal COT. For their mastercard, they create a collateral account such that if you pay $500 in the the card acct, they move 20% to the fraudulent collateral account and u only have access to 80% of your money. One would think the mastercard would allow u overdraw, NO!. So why the collateral acct?!

if thats your issue with them, l don't think its a problem. N5 is a legal tender, isn't it? However, they would have change half to your desired note.
l am not holding brief for them ooo, because l have my own case, which l don't have energy to type and post.

I have been reading all mesges 2day and i think u guys are all very correct.UBA is the worst bank in Nigeria. its the bank i first oponed my accound that was when its was STB, I just deposited sum money there which i had no intention of widrawing very soon and forgot about then.
The issue of nepa taking light and no stand by gen is even the worst, just imagine been on the cue for like an 1hr plus and nepa takes light just forget it for that day because there is no standby gen. i thought its only happen in wuse zone 3 here i dint know is every where of there branches.
If you are looking for a customer friendly Bank then go bank with Intercontinetal Bank PLC, i just love that bank. Am not a staff there ooo just a customer and i believe in there motto, HAPPY CUSTOMER, HAPPY BANK

Wao This is indeed a serious matter ooooo. I closed my account with them since I left school i.e their Unilag Branch, You need to experience the long queue there due to payment of Salaries, School fees, NEPA Bill, water Bill,, etc I actually went to the branch to withdraw some money on the day I closed my account and I saw long queue there, and was surprised that they have not really improved on their services. I didnt even blink before closing the account. Goodluck to the bank sha!

That UBA is a bad bank is just giving much credit to them. UBA is the worst coperate organization i've ever encountered in NigeriA. TheiR staff are so unfriendly, always irritated and feels so diturbed to render any service to you.
I went to open dormicile account with them to transfer money for FOREX, I told the branch manager Mr Udeh of Head bridge branch (former Standard trust) Onitsha, on the first day i visited that i wholly intend to use the account for Forex and they accepted and even pressurised me to open current account as well which i strictly refused, later the stupid branch manager ended up in persuading me to open savings account with them. After long days of passing through hell with them all in the name of transfering the money to my beneficiary, they ended up telling me that they don't transfer money for Forex for their stupid so called compliance issue of theirs. I applied in writting to close both the dorm account and the savings, these guys charged me $10.5 for the dorm account closure and close to N800 for the saving account closure. They know they have a stupid policy against forex transaction and accepted me to open the accounts only to estort me in d name of account closure. What an executive fraud.

UBA had been like that for ages, what we taught was that the bank would change for the better after the merger with STB. I operated a DOM account with them before the merger, but i had to forget the account with what they called the minimum balance for DOM account in there. I wanted to close and take my money but they refused. I had a nasty experience with one of their branch in Benin city, i was at the bank one early morning to withdrawal money for my flight ticket to Lagos, i was on the queue for 1 hour, tired and exhausted; i got to the old woman cashier that suppose to attend to me, as soon as he noticed that my account was domicile in Lagos, come and see the nasty way she sneered at me, threw the passbook at me and called on the next person. I approached the branch manager and he did not help the matter. He ignored me as if i was asking him for a favor. I had to borrow money to transport myself to Lagos. Guess what, i stopped banking with them since then. Well, i have their stock and it's doing good.

I forgot to add in my first reply, GTB is the best bank I've ever encountered with. Meeen, see handsome guys with sweet reception and very friendly. Can u believe that I later transfered my money through GTB and less than 24 hours (no exxageration) they sent me mail that the transfer is done. Already I've opened two accounts with them this year and that's the only bank I will bank with from henceforth. God bless GTB - Amen
I wish UBA executive should read all these replies.

I don't seem to like the bank called UBA, operated an account with them for a while sha, that queue thing is really killing, also excuses like our system is down is also really annoying. They should really do something. I've since hooked up with the GTB, the coolest to hit the country called Naija.

That's the best bank in Nigeria for now. After the nasty experiences i had with UBA, i moved all my account to GTB and since then, no regret. Very efficient and friendly staffs. May God bless GTB too.

I don't think you guys have seen the wost of UBA yet, i withdrew all my money from my account there and deposited same with Zenith last week, I think Zenith is the best, you don't waist time, you can acess your account from the internet and do a lot of things. I noticed my UBA account doesnt have interest accruning to it even if a have a substantial money in there for months, i complained to them, i even sent txt messages to their customer care lines provided but no responsel, i even called the numbers myself but the man over there tells me to go back to my branch, you just get tired of all that shit. I even applied for internet banking with them many months ago but after visiting them several times to find out if my leeter had come from the Headquarters the tell me to be checking back, that the last mails the recieved was sometime in March last year. This is the same internet Zenith within weeks of applying, i think that bank (UBA) is in a mess and therefore needs deliverance!!!!!

i concur with you. GTB is more than good, though my account is with UBA (haven't used it in a long while and frankly i don't care). was in a GTB branch today at about 3.55pm and they still allowed me in. i paid into an account and still was able to get a draft despite it was far past 4pm. dare you try that in UBA (you will be drafted into the closest asylum). thanks to harriet, emeka and temitope at GTB akowonjo branch (spied their names ) keep up the good work!

Another xperence i had with them was when i was at enugu (esut) doing my N.D. i was short of money that day and i had money in my account so because of the long cue they normally have i decided to wait till 3.30pm get to the bank(UBA) i noticed that they was a very long cue. But i was so happy because i got in before 4.00pm the cue was not moving at all. We enquired and later found out that their system was down, So they said that they will only give money to those that opened account with them in their branche(Okpara Avenue formally standard trust). we waited hoping the system will come up but to no avail. So at about 5.45pm we were about 10people that were stranded we had no money on us. And were i stay is very far from the bank. We we started begging for them to help us with 50naira for transport fare but they refused. We begged and begged. but nothing. that gatemen now started treating us bad. i noticed that one of the gatemen was a yoruba man then i had to change my language i started speaking yoruba with he. I told him if they continue like this they will loose customers. But the stupid guy told me in a parable that Oyigbo market don't begg for customer, that they don't even knw if one customer is absent. I mad with what he said he told us that the police people will send us out with their guns very soon. After waiting till 6.30 one of their staff now gave me 50naira. With a left hand. i had to swallow my pride and collect the money otherwise i no go reach my house. Now i have another account with Diamond Bank. Guys you need to try the bank it is the bomb. 4 real.

Why would the bank not be the worst bank in the whole world? UBA does not pay their staff (esp Tellers) well and hence the kind of frustrated staff they have attending to customers. UBA bank is the only bank that spends only 80% of their sal budget on 20% of their staff while the remaining 80% contract staff share the rest 20%.(I think they applied 80/20 rule in error) Their Tellers are the worst paid in the Nigerian banking sector. Just today, I heard 6 staff from operation's team of their Maryland branch in Lagos resigned their jobs all at the same time turning the branch to confusion. The same incidence happened last year at the same branch. So, itz not only the customers that are leaving, staff too. O ga ooo.

it took me two and a half months for them to completely open a current account for me. took me 3 wks to get a n atm card; and for the past one and a half months the card has not been activated.
i thought it was just the staff in their canaanland branch that were incompetent, until i got out to hear of the crappy activities and operations of the so-called biggest bank in nigeria.
i guess they need a total re-engineering and restructuring.

Naija king, please try Zenith BAnk. they seem to know what they are doing and have solutions to your every banking need. Thank God for this expose on UBA. I was almost thinking of making them my main bankers. I will stay with Zenith Bank o. Also, the authorities of Wema Bank, Unilag Branch should do smt about their services. They seem to be operating in the STONE AGE!!. Hundreds of customers have to queue endlessly just to collect a mere TELLER that u can just pick up at any good bank. The worst part is that some tellers are not carbonised. The staff fills the teller for you and then your misery begins again as u would have to queue for ANOTHER CENTURY for payments. The assign such duties to the slowest staff and they do not even consider the queue and engage more hands to attend tro the crowd. Na wah! Unilag should pleease reduce the misery of people who cry before paying their tution and other stuff, especially the PG students. May God help us.

UBA,na wahhhh ohhhh, I had my ordeal in my NYSC days in JOS, WELL I hope they read this tread and change. Guys you need not worry just go to any nearby GBT Branch and you'll see why you would rather bank with them. This is not exargeration i hadly spend 20mins whenever i am at any brach to withdraw money from them, although and at times their ATM really SUCKS, But then they are really the best Bank with the right customer relations, Infact u can report any staff immediately. I remembered the first day i went to withdraw money at GTB,after the lady attended to me happily,he gave me an assessment form to fill, whats this all about?, The form ask if the cashier attended to me well?If i had any complaint about the cashier? If i have any suggestions if they should change the cashier or not? Lastly, asked me how many minutes i had spent to withdraw money frm my account? Infact the lady knew i would write something good about her so she kept smiling, NAIRALANDERS, these are checks and balances, that would bring about attitudinal change to our UBA Cahiers, who would almost fight customers, GTB I duff for your CREATIVITY, One things that trills me MOST about this lovely GTB is there structure, i tell you they build those structures as if they are residential mansions in a very colourful way not knowning that they are Banks.
UBA, is the worst Bank i have ever experience, also INTERCONTINENTAL BANK at SABO,YABA, They are really SUCK,don't know if they have an attitudinal change now

The problem with UBA just like any other service provider in Nigeria is branch-specific. The problems you face in one branch could be alien to another. The origin of these wahala can be traced back to the individuals that run these branches. The motivation of a branch manager is evident on the face of the bank staff you meet on the teller.
I also have no one to blame but the manager of such a branch. It is his/her responsibility to see that the day to day affairs of his branch is being run smoothly. His/her duties surpasses that of holding meetings with multi-billionaire clients. After all, it is the same 'hopeless' cashier on the counter that will maltreat your so-called customers when u've spent hours 'marketing' them.
And to you Nairalanders out there still hunting for jobs, when you get recruited by UBA (for instance), remember that you've been made a face of UBA to the public. The way you treat your customers will resonate outside including here on Nairaland. It's either you do your job cheerfully and invigoratingly or you simply quit. No need working like you're forced to do it.

fellow nairalanders,UBA is the worst bank in nigeria.I wont even advice my enemies to bank with them.I had to close my account with their CBO,V/I branch because if you withdraw outside the branch where the account is domiciled, they will charge;if you deposit an amount above 100,000.00 outside your branch, they will also charge. Before I closed my account with them,I asked their manager why a customer should be charged for depositing money with which they will do their business, the guy had no answer but simply said "I'm sorry its our policy, its bad actually but i can't help it".I have moved to GTB and for two years now, I have never regreted.GTB is simply too much.
Guys, please close your accounts with them so that they will change some of this obnoxious policies by the time they realise that they are loosing customers rapidly.GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH
