i was using STB those days and i migrated immediately they merged with UBA to GTBank.

I think they are big, strong but may NOT be RELIABLE. im not sure

I hope the guys in Marina are reading all these. UBA has all to make a customer happy, they should wake up to this call. I'm sure if it were to be a developed country, issues like this on a web blog will give the management the need to worry.

But, this is Ngeria, my beloved country. Dem no send u

Guys,  The only time I have been to UBA was when I wanted to paid for Transcorp public offer and truly I could see some sign of rudeness in their staff and inexperience. I have been to many banks raging from from the good to the bad and to the ugly. I will say authoritatively that GTB is the best. Zenith has the name but they are not the best. The security officers are rude to customers more than the banking officials. I have some units of share in most of these banks but I will again repeat GTB is the best. They are not just after profit but the best of customer satisfaction. gtb BEST BANK IN NIGERIA. Go for it jo ooo.

I totally disagree with you people; I’ve been using UBA for some years now.  And from my own view, they are the best bank in Nigeria.

UBA is the bank with the highest number of branches in Nigeria; it was even awarded best bank of the year 2006 merit award. So I don’t understand what you people are saying.

If I wasn’t using UBA, I would be silent but it’s my bank and as far as am concerned they have been living up to expectation.

Hey Crazykid, i believe u are partially related to the CEO of UBA, let me also assume that u are a crazykid, because if u are  not u wouldn't have posted that. You need to read what people are  saying about them, and frantically speaking, i think you are crazy sry.

Thank you all for stating your experiences here. Most of us that are based abroad have no clue about this. Meaning that we are very vulnerable when we go to Nigeria. I wouldn`t have thought that UBA is not one of the best banks around. I was using the First Bank before leaving Nigeria and I didn`t have any bad experience with them. When we name and shame them like this, we are actually doing some good! Lastly, it would be nice if we also mention the good ones as we expose the terrible ones like UBA. God bless you all.

UBA's service to customers is not encouraging. You wait endlessly on the queue, their internet banking is zero and their cashiers are so rude and behave as if its you've come to beg for a favour.
I dislike going there. I have an account with them but of all i think GTBank is the best.

For me I have not been to all Nigeria Banks
but of all I've had to deal with GTB has been the best
and UBA the worst.
Just yesterday, I wanted to deposit 100k into someones account at the bank
I was carrying a laptop and with the same laptop on me, I withdrew money from GTB
went to IBTC withdrew the the remainder.
When I got to UBA to deposit the money, they told me that i could not carry my bag
into the bank, which was expected, but i was shocked when they (the security men) also told me they could not look after it for me, that I would have to go and drop it before coming back to the bank.
I just couldnt beleive I  had to go and drop the bag containing just a laptop at home or wherever before I could make a deposit.
I complained to the customer care but the guy couldnt care less. He was just not ready to listen.
I fear UBA

@ solumotu

So what if the whole management of uba are nairalanders. The poster has a right to his opinon.
It's our money they are using to pay the rude staff so why should we keep quiet if we are not satisfied with their services.

I had to go to ilorin in a rush a few months ago and forget my withdrawal books n atm cards at home. After a month my colleagues and i[/sub]jus to make fun of their system [sub]went to uba and they told us i couldn't withdraw unless they send a mail to the branch i opened my acc with and they were not ready to send it.In the end they told me to go to maiduguri where i opened the acc and withdraw my money-MY HARD EARNED MONEY. I asked them if the bank had crossed into the new millenium like the other banks n the rest of the world, even small firstinland bank was able to give me money without bank books.
I only use the bank for local money transfer.

The service you get probably depends on the branch you patronize, but it's never excellent, really.

I'll have to contradict you there. I have been to different branches in three different states and its the same story.

UBA is living in past glory. Their infrastructures are falling apart, their network is a big problem and their workers are not very freindly. I was even talked down on by a gloryfied security guard once.

UBA definitely has my vote as Nigeria's worst bank. Angry

UBA as a bank is horrible! I still have an account with them but i hardly use it. I only go there when i have time to waste or i really can't help it.
Agreed, they can get really rude to their customers but i tell u, never let them get away with it.
I had an experience like 2 months ago in one of their branches at Kaduna. I went to send some money to my younger one as well as pay into friend's account. Here's what ensued:
I got to spend about 20 minutes waiting to for my turn and i had like only 5 people in front of me. The cashier; a lady seems not be be in the least worried and gets to receive money from only 3 people. A colleague walks up to her for something else and goes like 'na waoh this kind long queue, why not ask some of them to go pay in the bulk room'. The lady responds: 'Don't mind them, let them keep standing'.
I just felt like i'd lost my brains! The bank that was otherwise cool and calm for a moment was turned into something else. I was screaming at the top of my voice and customers seized the opportunity to say a thing or two.
In less than a minute, the manager and possibly her subordinate came rushing out and started calming me down, at the same time ushering me through to the bulk section. I was still screaming and cursing all the way and reminding them that paying money into an account in UBA wasn't all most of us had to do for the day and besides, some of us had better paying jobs and bla bla bla bla!You wan try try the apology?
Well, eventually, we get to the bulk room and the lady receiving cash is told to attend to me immediately, while the manager and whoever stand behind. Afterwards, they escort me to the exit of the main baking hall, but trust me, i made sure i broke away and walked right up to the counter and asked the erring cashier to take a deep look at me, cause,  i would be back someday!!!!

I decided to share this story with u cause i believe you only get your ass kicked around if you wish to play the donkey! I never condone their 'i-am-so-fanciful-as-a banker' kind of attitude. I NEVER do and i advise u don't!!

UBA services nationwide including there headoffice is an apology. That must be said no matter whose ox is gored.
What they require is a change in attitude.Capish?

Since last year they have successfully denied me ATM finally when i was given it would not worlk because i was told i have been given one which i didnt collect from my branch plus many other stories. i didnt close my account with them but i left the minimum. the staffs are so boring and inefficient. what a bank!

I don't know if UBA culd be worse than Union Bank. I have my salary acct with Union and up till 2day, i'm regretting it. I wuld have closed it but that's what my coy uses. You get there on so many occassion and they don't have money even at month ends. Also u get to queue endlessly to be serviced. If you attempt to withdraw money from your savings acct at any other branch apart from where your bank domicile, you will be charged for it and there will be a restriction on the percentage of your available balance that you can collect and that is if they get to allow you at all. I bank with their branch at Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos to be precise. Union Bank - Big, Strong, Reliable.

Guys, i thought i'm the only one going through UBA's Disheartenment, and i read peoples opinion, and i was like whaoooo. I must be sincere here that UBA don't worth to be existent. i did copied all these post and emailed it to their email address for them to know what people are saying about them, and also i blame this country for not allowing us to perform our citizen's right otherwise, UBA ought to have been sued for so many offenses. To me, i will ever discourage people from banking with them. God knows what the CBN is doing, and i also believe that there is no proper check and balances. The directors just woke up one day and make some stupid decision without putting the customers into consideration. which is totally wrong. Other banks are making things very easy to there customers, like GTB, and SKYE they will always notify there customer via text messages for any deposit and withdrawal you made. I hope they change 4 good. Thank you all.

Why is this thread growing so fast Huh
From my little interaction UBA is like any other Nigerian Bank.
Their moneygram service is excellent. In fact the best in Nigeria. Unlike Western Union which most other Banks use which is a rip-off.

I WILL SAY UBA IS AVERAGE LIKE MOST NIGERIAN BANKS.

from my opinon, uba has about the worst customer care and they are incapable of handling their numerous customers hence queues and other undesirable elements. Also the most annoying factor is their ATM network is down most times when u need it urgently, all u get is "your institution is not available". They should please improve for better

Don't ever go to UBA. It is not a good bank. I have some problem with them now and I am  closing all my accounts with them.

I have three accounts with them and the branch I use is ogba branch. Those guys there are all the same. Somethings I will leave Ogba to UBA House Marina before someone will even listen to me.

I hate themm with a passion.

I have office records of my transactions with them and I will provide these on demand and if they feel liking know more about what I am talking about, let them contact me using 08023611150.

Sometimes I wonder why STB had to join this UBA.

PLS DO NOT GO THERE!

Nairalandersuna no go kill me ohh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i say UBA go hear am,infact someone must copy this thread and post it to CBN website because their nonsense is too much,
Tehma weldone but i still think there is a bank even worse than UBA and that is WEMA,  I closed my account with them bout two weeks ago. It was a salary account and they always deduct 100 naira every month ,  and when i asked from the customer care whay that happens,  they told me that its done in every ones account there that its their policy, Thats Trans Amadi Branch in Port Harcourt, and the person who said this is , Joyce( Customer care), so after leaving my minimum balance there for bout a year ,  I had to go close it completely since the account was of no more use to me,  and the painful thing is that the customer care lady told me that i would have to part with about one thousand for closing the account, so i didnt mind i had to leave 1,135.24  there for them.

Yeah, i agree with u. Although i do bank with them, they don't have customer relation. I was banking with them i n a micro-finance way and went to withdraw from another state. they ignored me and told me that they do not attend to micro- finance banks. in fact, the manager treated me in a harsh manner and left me waiting helplessly. i had to leave shamefully. The bank should improve.
