@malaika
Congrats!! Yes it is normal and as long as there is no bleeding, it's ok.  I would suggest you abstain from any sexual activities.  Good luck

Hi Kathy,

I am 10 weeks pregnant. My hubby and I had sex two days ago and i started bleeding(bright red). It went away after a few minutes then I noticed that i was spotting brown blood and it's been on for two days. It's not heavy enough even for a pantyliner. I only notice it when i clean with a tissue. I am royally scared, What do you think?

hello dr.kathy
i have always been a careless person when it comes to certain feminine issues so please excuse some of my slips.i guess my menstrual cycle is 26 days or thereabout.my problem is that for about 6 months now i always have this funny feeling a few days after my period.the last cycle i thought i was pregnant because i had sex about a week after my period.the feeling i had was as if i was pregnant.At this point please i want to know what to do.I want to get pregnant,can you imagine my 4yr old boy asking me if he should give me some money from his piggy bank so i can buy a baby?
please what day after my period should i make love?my first baby happened just like that,but now i need to know what to do.As per multivitamins,i am taking centrum i'll like to know if that is okay or i'll need something else.thanks

semen contains prostaglandins which can cause uterine contractions.  She is already cramping, so I don't want to aggravate the situation

I would suggest that your wife take a urine pregnancy test.  Yes, sex in missionary position is ok

@f4flakes
Don't be alarmed.  The vagina has many folds and when we bleed, the blood pools and turns brown.  I would suggest you go to your doctor because if you are RH negative blood type. you need rhogam to prevent you from developing antibodies.  Aksi they will be able to do a sono to check in the baby

@demi2008
First things first, take a deep breath.  I understand the pressure that you are under but there is one glaring problem that I see.  Does your husband have any other children, if not, has he had a semen analysis?  Now I am Nigerian and I understand that this may be a touchy subject for your husband but up to 40% of infertility is due to male factor.  I would also suggest you keep a menstrual calendar so as to predict your ovulation date.

@largie
I would suggest a menstrual calendar.  Your ovulation day is ~14days before your period.  YOur centrum should be fine as long as it has at leadt 400mcg of folic acid.

many thanks for your reply my husband has had his semen analysis and he his ok and infact i have been pregnant for him 1nce before getting on injection and latter pills but had 2 do a D&C because we were newly married then and was not ready for a baby i know u understand how it works outside naija u need 2 be 100% ok before having kids i keep a calender of my menstral cycle and calculate my ovulation date i have been using pregnantcare multivitamin for the past 10 months but changed to ordinary folic acid on sun i'm worried that could it be because of clomid i used immediately after coming of d pill or could it be i was on injection and later pills for 1yr because i got pregnant d witin 4 weeks before aldo had a d&c i've had a scan also and don't have any problem as a result of d d&c

@demi2008
Then I would suggest a blood test to be done on the 3rd day of your period to make sure your ovarian reserve is good.  How old are you?

@loretta
bleeding during pregnancy is never "normal"  You need to see your gyn for a pelvic exam and a scan.  Also an evaluation of your blood type.  Don't worry too much.  It might be related to the sex.  I would suggest abstaining for now.

I am 28yrs old is  there anyway i can do d blood test without it being through my GP because she is not as anxious as i am she said i'm less than 35 so i should be less bothered but in fact i am bothered

I would agree with your GP.  I am not sure whether you can get the test in the uk without your GPs consent.

@Kechai

I am suspecting bacterial vaginosis.  It is very easily treated.  It is not an infection per se but an overgrowth of certain bacteria normally found in the vagina

Congratulations!  Sex is safe as long as she does not have abdominal cramps or bleed.  She should stay away from fatty fish.  Eat more protein and take her prenatal vitamins.
