Beans contains Phytohaemaglutinin which causes the translocation of enteric bacteria to into a mesenteric lymph node leading to stooling.
It is the content of beans and possible overgrowth of bowel bacteria that is to  blame rather than quality of beans lol.

Not only stool, but also to the 'mess' if u eat beans without washing it properly u will fart(mess) alot,  Even if it is washed u will still mess but not as much as  the former,  Beans has some consituents that propagate stooling and messing around,  People shouldnt eat much beans, they should eat slight beans because if u take overfeeding na mess u go dey mess for everywhere u go Grin

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I picked something from that.
I would also like to say, you'll surely "mess" throughout the next day if you go to bed immediately after your plate of beans except you escorted the beans with gari or bread.

What in Gods earth is stooling and messing, would you guys possibly be talking about taking a shit, leaving a dump, doing #2, squeezing one off, and for the messing, if you mean fart, just say it 'fart", or passing gas, or flatulance, or ripping one, or blowing a fart, or letting it rip, or flying a fart,. Now thats how we say it here in the states. Grin Grin Grin

Beans or black eye pea as they are called in the US is probably the best food anyone could eat.

Here is a USDA link to the nutritional contents of beans:

http://www.fns.usda.gov/fdd/facts/hhpfacts/FS-PeasBlack-eyedDry.pdf

It is definitely FALSE that excessive stooling after beans meal is secondary to some "phytoagglutinins that cause a translocation of bacteria into lymph nodes," or to improper drainage of the water, or because the gods were angry with you as you were consuming the meal.

If you look at the nutritutional contents, you would see that 1 serving, say 1 cup has as much as 11g of fiber. The fiber is what makes you stool, nothing else. Now the more you eat, because it tastes nice or because you're hungry, you may forget that you may be taking a little bit too much fiber than you need.

The next characteristics of legumes or beans is just too much 'fart, gas, or mess' Beans provides you with so many essential minerals than any food group out there that there is a saying that 'if you only have one opportunity to eat one meal in 48 hours, then beans is your food'

Legumes and especially beans contain purines; one of the essential building blocks of DNA, amino acids, and proteins. This high protein compound is what gets broken down by enzymes and bacteria into different types of gases- ammonia, sulfur, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc. ---- that you pass the gas as 'fart'.

Passing fart, or gas is also a good sign that the beans you've eaten is being successfully used to replace deficient amino acids and minerals in the body.

Without sounding like a beans salesman, I would like to recommend that you eat beans today, and at least once a week. Beans is one of the natural foods found to reduce your risk of heart attack(it contains 0 fat/cholesterol), reduce constipation, and replenishes lost essential minerlas.

I would like the opinion of registered nutritionists and other physicians in the forum on this topic.

It's not really much about how it's cooked. It's the beans itself. The sugar in beans (oligosaccharide) is hard to digest or break down in da human body or at least for most people. and most people don't have the enzyme that breaks down that sugar. it's the same thing with lactose-intolerant people. they donnot have lactase, the enzyme that breaks down sugar found in diary products.

Fiber, fiber, fiber.

Indigestible food particles that must be passed in the stool= fiber.

Having said all that, you sound very constructive. The fart thing is not disputable.

But the diarrhoea aspect  . . . . 100 gram of yam has 20grams of fibre. It does not cause diarrhorea. Your vegetable contains a lot of fiber it does not cause diarrhoea but rather aids digestion.

Now take a look at this site. http://www.foodreference.com/html/artredkidneybeanpoisoning.html

Also look at this paper from pubmed
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1382449

There some fibre that is used to ease constipation  like methylcellulose fiber etc. They are used as mild laxative. They are not as aggressive as beans induced diarrhoea. But they are gentle. I am a victim and I know the difference.
Remember not everybody will suffer from the laxative effect.

I will take your explaination and jetison mine if you have a better fact.

It's not all about FIBER either <fake and 9jaking>. there are soluble and insoluble fibers. those are also factors of effects of certain foods on people.

GC

Oligosacharide is a soluble fiber (also called fermentable) fiber. It is not a nondigestable. Though about 90% escape digestion in the small intestine, they are digested by becateria in the large intestine which is why they are used as probiotics.
Again vegetables also contain a lot of this oligosacharide yet they do not cause diarrhoea.
I stand to be corrected though.

thanks datnigadaz for talking about the "mess" part of this discussion. I laughed my ass off reading mess in the lines. Reminded me of the days back in Nigeria,

Well all I have to say is that eating beans is good for you if your body has got a nice relationship with it. Over here, I don't get it really easy especially when I disappear into the Finnish lands so when I do so, I try to use other equivalent foods as replacement until I get back to the limelight.

yea i don't see anything wrong in eating beans if your system goes well with it,you see the problem with beans is that if you were not brought up with the timetable as in if from child hood its not part of your meals and you grow up and want to start eating it might not go well

My brother, we just dey exchange ideas. No big deal.

Your referrence link was about red beans, not our popular blackeye pea or 'beans'. I know there are at least 100 species of beans, both poisnous and edible.

Personally, I have never eaten red beans, but I know people who have. My grand-mother would tell us about some type of beans they were forced to eat as kids because of hunger, "we soaked it for 4 days, cooked it for 24 hours, and had the dog taste it before we did" My discussion is focused on blackeye pea, because some species of beans could kill you.

Another point with your ref. was that it was an experiment in mice- now, you know that man and mice don't share similar diet, colonic anatomy, or even social influence of excessive gas production-farting.

From a surgical point of view, any agent that induces colonic diarheae also activates the lymphocytes lining the colons, not just with beans.

Diarheae or not, the most important point is moderation. There are different types of fiber-soluble and insoluble, but they produce same effect- makes you go.

Have you ever wondered why beans is always on the menu of institutionalized settings- prisons, hospitals, boarding schools? Despite the bad name, it's the only cheaply available food that has been found to ward off malnutrition.

Many people don't know, I too didn't know when I was in boarding house at Nike Boys, we thought that Wednesday and Saturday beans was a punishment sent directly from hell.

Beans are high in fibre which doesn't normally sit in the body but passes right through. It has nothing to do with them being cooked properly or otherwise. Just be lucky that you are able to have a good stool because food, once eaten is not supposed to sit in the body. Once food has served its function of providing nourishment and minerals to the body, the wastage should be expelled. A healthy person should have daily stools.

Please Google. Grin
