@jackal

you know there are sometimes when everything goes against a team and in the end they come out tops,

i know you don't want arsenal to win, i know you don't like arsenal fans here because of the noise they make,

i know barca has a bigger chance to win than we do, but those players can stand up to the occassion,

ok, jackal, what were u thinking last season when milan were up 3-0 in instanbul against liverpoool

if they can step up their game, thats all,

To be frank,
I thought Liverpool will go on and conceed 6 goals.
That was the greatest come-back i have ever seen in Football.
U r kind of right but that kind of luck comes when u don't make noise about it prior the match.

90% gunners r all expecting that kind of situation to happen again.
That kind of luck is hard to get.
Arsenal should prepare well and give Barcelona a big fight.
I don't want to see a lack-lustre Final like Madrid V Valencia(UCL 2000)

@Kolawole

That FA cup final was not won by luck.

While there can be luck in some matches it is not the case of the final.
The reason is simply that the defence and esp lehsman were on fire and Manchester United did not have the necessary ammuinition to breech our goal.

Are you saying that Lehsman made the saves by luck?

or was there any incident that was down to luck and caused their defeat?

Tell where the luck is?

Re: My Fear For Arsenal
« #70 on: May 05, 2006, 12:55 PM »

@ Vieira,
Even Patrick Vieira said Arsenal nicked the cup by sheer luck in the post-match comments.
Can u remember how many times Man United struck the post?
Arsenal won that match by luck.
If the match had ended 5-0 United. No Arsenal fan would have complained.

I can show u the stats if u insist.
Arsenal's 1st and only shot on goal came as a result of a Van Persie's free-kick in the 2nd-half of the extra-time.
Vieira (m)
Re: My Fear For Arsenal
« #71 on: May 05, 2006, 01:00 PM »

Jackal, how many times did they hit the post?

If a keeper saves a ball onto the bar, it is good goal keeping and not luck.

If a striker has the net at his mercy and he hits the bar instead then it is bad shooting and not luck.

U and I know Arsenal did not deserve that FA cup but thatz football.
Sometimes u play well and get nuthing and sometimes u don't play at all and get something.
It reminds me of UCL final in May 1999, Man Utd V Bayern Munich.
United nicked the cup and was down to pure luck.
Bayern was the better team for 90 mins until they lost their head in the added minutes.
Vieira (m)
Re: My Fear For Arsenal
« #73 on: May 05, 2006, 01:53 PM »

I admit as an Arsenal fan that most of our team that day were very lacklustre. BUT:

Jackal, there are two facts about football;

One it's a team game

Two it is not over till the whistle is blown.

If in a Team only 2 people play well but play so well as to make their team defeat the other team, then it is still a win and calling it luck would be a disservice to those players who performed out of their skin.

Plus the Munich game was not luck. As professionls Bayern should know a game is never over till the whistle goes, Manchester United knew this and kept on going and in the end I think got the rewards for their professionalism.

To me there is no point playing well for 85 minutes if in the last 5 minutes you play so badly as to lose the game.

Imagine if it was Manchester United that was 1- 0 up at around 86 minutes and they then threw it away in the last 5 minutes, I bet you will be furious.

@ Vieira,
I don't agree with cha.
Bayern Munich worked their socks off and United was extremely lucky to have pulled that victory off.
It was a daylight grab n smash kind of robbery.
2 dead-ball situations(corner-kicks) resulted in a goal in the 92nd and 93rd minute.

I have to say there's an element of luck in football.
We have seen teams stealing victories out of the jaws of defeat out of nuthing.
Tell me son,how would u describe Arsenal's loss to Liverpool in the FA cup final of 2001?
Vieira (m)
Re: My Fear For Arsenal
« #77 on: May 05, 2006, 04:49 PM »

That is a good example and at the time I said it then, it  is no use attacking all day if you do not score.

We had many oppourtunities and did not convert any and Liverpool had one and Owen scored.

To me that means we were not clinical enough and honestly we still have that problem today, we overplay a lot when a more direct approach is needed.

You will see Henry and co in the box doing fancy flicks and complex passes when they should just tear the net and sometimes we get punished for it.
I trust Hasselbaink, as soon as he see clear road, he will thunder that yeye ball.

See that silly penalty that pires and Henry tried to take at Highbury against Man City, perfect example of overdo.

Good luck gunners.

i agree with u, serious over do Undecided

Somtimes they gotta learn that its goals that count man Wink

@pricci
i hate to rely on someones misfortune to win ma place
we should've sealed that fourth place long ago
now we have to pray 4 spurs to draw which is bad, but thats life/sport Grin

And what a dillema it will be 4 them if we get that 4th place
they've worked soooooo hard to get there

But thats football, somtimes monkey go work, baboon go chop Grin

@ Viera,
don't blame the gunners for that cheeky penalty.
It was a time when fans were complaining the Premiership was getting too boring.
Arsenal's players wanted to add some spice and they were leading 1-0 so why not do s'thing cheeky?
Heard Cryuff had tried the stunts before and it is allowed in football.

Secondly, The match against liverpool was just pure luck.
Can u remember a liverpool defender handling Henry's goal-bound shot?
Is that hard-work on the part of Liverpool or just luck

Can u also remember Man Utd Vs Tottenham last season?
Carroll's blunder?
Was that hard-work? or just luck on United's part?

please do the math. There's luck in football.

@everyone

i personally don't believe in luck, i believe everything that has happened was supposed to happen, it was destined to happen, it was in the script that it was to happen,

so when people say they are fortunate, or lucky, it was supposed to happen, they may term it as luck, but it is fate,

what happened in 99 between bayern and manutd was fate, bayern were destined to lose that game,  and everything that happened is not coincidence, it was meant to happen, we cannot decide our fate,

you may get everything right but you cannot just score,

ok look at the qualifiers for 2002 world cup, the playoff between holland and ireland, did u see that game, if not for shay given and the woodwork holland would have been in the world cup, everyone was on the defensive because holland wanted to kill ireland, what would u call that, luck? NO, i think its fate,

Huc, I did not say there is not luck in some games but people will also call it luck when it should be called good defending or poor striking.

But I must agree that Totenham v Manchester United game was luck or more to the point bad referreeing and blatant cheating by Carroll.

But if a man cheats and gets away with it can it be called luck?

Some people are master's at cheating and getting away with it, just ask Maradona

Isn't it interesting that all the women on this thread are Arsenal fans?We all know that women know next to nothing about football, perhaps that is why they all support Arsenal.
Their views will be best appreciated if they were posting on a thread that dealt with menstruation, haemorrohoids, vaginal douching or whatever issues women are experts in.Just leave the football sections to real men.Skintite and Priscilla take note.
As for those "men'' who call themselves Arsenal fans, I suggest you all go and have a sex change because you are in the wrong gender.
Arsenal remain 20 points behind Man Utd in the league and yet I have to read crap questioning Man Utd's superiority. When will you folks ever learn?

P.S-Skintite should not take my earlier post personally.
