Department stores: "I learned all u've got in the UK is Harrod's"
Well that just proves that you 100% don't know what you are talking about at all, doesn't it.
One department store (not even just one brand, but only one actual shop) for an entire country? Gee, you must be dumb if you believe that.

@ English1 One of your UK posters here claimed that u got just little' stores there. C'mon, I might not have been to the UK, but my dad and uncle are regular callers in your country, and moreoever, I got relatives who live there. The truth needs to be said, just as the US is bigger than the UK in terms of physical size, so is the rate of development. Y'all just gotta know that this ain't no contest because there's nothing to contest here. How many people can afford to buy their own houses in the UK? What the British gov't practices is just a modernized form of communism or at the best, socialism. How can every aspect of the economy be controlled by the gov't? There are minimal, if any, avenues to think big in that British "socialist" gov't. The moment the gov't allows capitalism to reign, y'all are going to experience the development that the US is enjoying today. Please, don't compare the US to the UK.

I like the US better, overall. The weather is nicer, the people are more open, and the cost of living is more reasonable than the UK. From my understanding, the taxes in the UK is very high, higher than the US. Even renting an apartment in the UK (like London) requires the renter to pay taxes. Geez, and how much is the salary sef? I flew into UK once, enroute to Naija, and was amazed by the high cost of living. It is too much, and the weather does not even help matters at all. Moreso, when you realize that your taxes are being put into supporting the royal family, you start wondering, "Why should I work hard just to make ends meet, while the royal family are living in ostentatious luxury from the brow of my sweat? Your health system may be excellent, but in the US too, our healthcare is not bad either. I would rather live in Nigeria, than reside in the UK.

daprince, throughout this thread all I've said is that everyone has their own preference and you can't say either country is better than the other, it's down to the individual. Some people will be happier in the UK, some people will be happier in the US. There are good things about the UK and bad things about the UK. I haven't made any attempt to compare the two countries. I don't care what country people live in. We are not a playground playing 'my dads better than your dad' are we I only said that it is stupid to state that the UK's 'only department store' is Harrods, because it was a stupid thing to say.

Is it true that British citizens, enrolled as students in the Universities get a stipend/allowance from the Government?

LoverBwoy (m)

Nope, they are entitled to a loan for universities which they pay back after graduating and in employment earning over £15,000 a year minimum
I think you are refering to college i don't know what you call that over there, Full-time college students from low income background are eligible for some amount usually enough to cover their transport fare, lunch money and some extras(thats the main idea anyway) and full-time students with kids get some extras to cover nanny or daycare but they'll have to attend every lecture in the week. EMA-education maintenance allowance i think

yea they collect allowance. if you in college and you are a full time student, you are entitle to collect £30 every week from the government ( depending on your parents income anyway) and in uni you collect approx £2900 which is a non refundable money and you pay £3070 tution fee which is refundable after you are earning like £1500. yea they collect allowance

i don't even understand why aybody would compare the UK to the US. i know the british speak better english but that is the only thing i can think of. i've never been there before but i've heard so many horrible things about their "cubicle" apartments and the cleaning jobs. its not easy in the US, but u can get a better job so far as u skull here or continue your education over here. i've heard of people in the UK with masters degree from uk universities and still do menial jobs. If the UK education system is so bad, why where past presidents educated in the UK unis? Why did Predident Clinton daughter go to a UK uni? No offence but US people r kind of dumb. Theyre obese, materialistic. President Bush speaks for himself. Why did people vote for him 2wice? Theres mass shootings in america. Ne1 can have a gun Black people refer to another black person as ni**a. In the UK houses are small, health system is bad (not as bad as US) and it doesnt seem as nice as the US Personally, there both bad @ sexylisa i don't even understand why aybody would compare the UK to the US. i know the british speak better english but that is the only thing i can think of. i've never been there before but i've heard so many horrible things about their "cubicle" apartments and the cleaning jobs. its not easy in the US, but u can get a better job so far as u skull here or continue your education over here. i've heard of people in the UK with masters degree from uk universities and still do menial jobs.
