Bricks, all makes and models are covered.
Just that in the UK, the Audi and VW scene is hugely popular.

I thought I'd get the S8 motor out today, remove the covers, degrease and refit.
I also replaced both rocker cover gaskets, and camshaft seals, there was a lot of crusty oil behind the timing belt, which I also replaced.
I also picked up a couple of spare exhaust manifolds, which will be reworked to take a pair of turbochargers. That'll be done later, without having to disturb the engine whilst it's in the car.
Spare exhaust manifolds,

Note the size of the throttle body, with twin-butterflies in the above picture,
There'll be no issues getting more air through those beauties, come turbocharging time.

Hey Siena, Any updates?

Hey Siena, Any updates? Yes. Since I couldn't locate the ever-elusive S8 manual flywheel, I've found a firm to make one. They build flywheels for race cars, with different weights on spec. They are building one for me, and it'll be ready sometime next week. Stock S8 flywheel weighs 13 kilos, mine's going to weigh an anorexic 7 kilos.

why is yurs weighing less, or is anoxeric a term

why is yurs weighing less, or is anoxeric a term I chose the final weight I want the flywheel to be. A lighter flywheel means less rotating mass, so the engine's maximum safe revs is increased. It'll also rev a lot quicker. Another advantage of less rotational mass means less engine load, so more aggressive timing can be used.

but siena, doesn't a lower mass come with the cost of vibrations??

but siena, doesn't a lower mass come with the cost of vibrations??
You're very correct, yes, in theory. We're dealing with Harmonic Distortion here. The overall rotating mass here consists of the crankshaft pulley, (vibration damper) crankshaft itself, flywheel and finally, the clutch assembly. A larger-mass crankshaft is more forgiving, in terms of weight reduction on the flywheel - the V8 is an ideal example. The crankshaft is no lightweight to start with, so plenty of mass to absorb vibration. A V8 is also easier to balance, and will always run smoother than say, an I4. So, a 7-odd kilo reduction in flywheel mass will not give rise to any discernable vibration.

Reduce the weight of an I4 flywheel excessively, and besides vibration at low rpm, you'll also get "clutch chatter" between gearchanges.

@siena
what fotodaddy said , was in my mind to ask u, but fear no let me, phew.
now its out, so you're saying a v8 is easier to balance in those terms, and u also said that d stock flywheel is heavier , if d calculations u made r right, why did they not use d lower mass instead in d first place to build d car, or was it done to slow it down a bit? thanks

Production cars are a compromise between performance and comfort. Owners of V8-engined cars are not likely to redline their engines between gearchanges either, so even a flywheel of say 23 kilos will be acceptable. The same question could be asked, why don't manufacturers extract the most from their engines / ECU's? Again, it's a compromise between performance, emissions and economy.

siena, a beg no vex, but I wan ask you one question. This your hobby is pretty expensive; and I know you did not inherit a fortune from any of our past leaders , so how do you sustain this?? Do you make this customs to sell at a margin??? or maybe you have sources that arent as expensive as one would have thought?? or what??

siena, a beg no vex, but I wan ask you one question. This your hobby is pretty expensive; and I know you did not inherit a fortune from any of our past leaders , so how do you sustain this?? Do you make this customs to sell at a margin??? or maybe you have sources that arent as expensive as one would have thought?? or what?? Well, it's not a hobby, it's business. In the world of customised cars, mechanically and cosmetically, my car showcases my work. Cheapest form of advertisement, as folk approach me, interested in similar, and I just give them my card - they come looking for me. This weekend for instance, has been pretty busy. Complete RS4 brake and suspension set-up on a lady's 2001 Audi A4 1.8TQS. Sure, it's an expensive business, but car enthusiasts spend silly money with me on their cars, and not always in the most practical way. Just the RS4 body panels / bumpers / headlamps (HID's) on my car came to just under £7,000. Expensive yes, but I end up with a car which is unique to me. Even the local police recongnise the car as "one on Siena's jobbies", and constables on the beat often stop over for a chat in my area. Sell at a margin? This car'll never be offered for sale, despite the fact I've been offered a lot to do so. I'd rather build a less wild one for those willing to pay the money. As for certain parts, I have various sources, besides Ipswich Audi, or direct from Audi UK, I trawl www.ebay.de (German ebay). Also, if someone in the UK's unlucky enough to smash their car up, I'm never too far away to make them an offer - some poor sod's just written off his 2001 Audi RS4, he was blasting down a country road, when a deer appeared. He swerved to avoid it, and ended up in a spin. The car rolled, and ended up in a field, a write off. The deer was unhurt, and just sauntered off back into the undergrowth. Still waiting for the insurance company to make him a settlement on the car, and I'll be buying a lot of the parts off him for stock.

geezzzz, 1st time seeing this thread, i actually went read the whole thread nice one siena, goodluck between, if u want to post more pics on a thread, u don't need to attach it, just go to www.tinypic.com, upload the picture and then get the IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards from the 2nd box, copy and paste, voila!!!! u can upload as many pictures as u want in one post, and then it takes a little time for the page to load as comapred to when you attached them

Siena nice project it took me 3 days to read your thread i would like to ask some questions. hope u don't mind Have u fixed the V8 yet? How do u Measure the ammount of HP an Engine gives u? do u connect it to a machine that reeds it? at what RPM is the standard RPM u need 2 rev an engine 2 measure the HP? If u turbo $ supercharge the engine, what HP are u expecting? is it legal to add NOS(NO2) to increase HP in UK?(is it the same gas DR. use for operation?) Can i use it on my car ?(jokeing i know its a flameable gas,and can cause an after burn in my car just before melting the engine and exaust )) will your chasis be able to withstand all that speed and power? If not ,do u need 2 Reinforce it? and how do u know where on the chasis? At high speeds don't u need a spoiler to keep the rear of your car more stable?(i know it has an axel) if u hit bumps at high speeds wouldnt your tyre touch your tyre well? i watch car racing alot(indy 500, F1, NASCAR) and there is i thing commom with the cars, its low clearance. it was once explained to me by a friend but didnt get the story of air flow under the car. Can u explain better but yours isnt that low. why? i am not discourageing(sic) u but i want to learn more thats y i asked all these questions nice job
