You could delay some of the unneccessary services that are running from startup; type services on the start menu, click on services, right click on the appropriate service (e.g. Cisco VPN Client)and select properties, finally select delay startup.
Hope this works. cheers

Have you tried using the Hibernation feature instead of shut-down? That'll reduce your boot up time by half!
Cheers

please note that Hibernating a computer is not the same as shutting it down. If you choose to hibernate often, it would help to actually shutdown your machine and restart it from time to time. This allows windows to do some basic "housekeeping" which is quite necessary.

I totally agree. In addition, it also seeps some stored battery charge in the case of laptop systems. If you're not going to be using for a long while (days) it's best to just shut it down completely. Cheers!

Check the memory status and if it is virus-free. Or you buy a new one. It's an unripe grape that taste sour.

just add more memory. The more memory you add the faster your laptop. And try and reduce the numbers of windows you open. 2GIG will suffice.

don't count on that. . . my laptop was slow on 2gb. i finally did what i should have done, backep up, formatted and reinstalled xp( it came with xp, but was vista ready, and i happened to have a legit version of vista ultimate, OEM version) . i installed windowblinds, so i still got that cool black glass. do i miss anything from vista? maybe the search in start menu. maybe the media center, though i didn't use it. my system is faster now. lets see if vista service pack 1 clears out the bugs. right now i'm on xpsp3 (build 3264) and my boot time is unbeleivable! anyone who wants to reinstll xp, confirm that the laptop modl will run xp. you can do this by checking the model on the manufacturer's site. if the model is configured with xp and vista( as options) you're in luck. if not. . . if you install xp, you may find that there won't be drivers fpr some devices. a guy i know reinstalled xp, on a second partition, and his usb ports won't work.

Thanks for that question jare! @Seun Why not backup your claim of the hibernation nonsense with some useful facts? As for me, I usually hibernate my laptop from 12 a.m. up till 5pm when I return from work. The battery records an average drop from 100% to 93%. It doesn't do so when I shut down properly. How do you explain this phenomenon in your own world Sir?
