This is just terrible oooIf i was a teen again, my tears would have been unstoppable.

save your scarce tears my brother. The last time i cried for a Nigerian team was the team that lost 1-2 to Italy at USA 94. That team would have ripped Mali to shreds and put at least 5 goals past them.

Things to learn from this game - 1. Berti Vogts should be sacked, we would have been no worse with Eguavoen in charge.
2. Mikel Obi is the future of our midfield, we need to find 2-3 more players like him and we would be ready to challenge again.
3. We no longer have an attack that would scare Togo.
4. When last did we play wingers? When Finidi George retired?
5. Yakubu who?
6. Is Makinwa a Nigerian? I thot he was a Malian defender.
7. Odemwingie is over-rated.

And to think we crucified the team of 2002!  Shocked

The truth must be said about Mikel abeg. He is not the most creative going forward.

He is more of a ''possession midfielder''. someone to secure the ball.

That was why I was shocked Vogts pushed him ahead of Olofinjana in the second half.

Mikel is not a creative midfielder agreed, but neither are Seidu Keita, Sissoko and Diarra. They are intelligent players who know how to keep the ball and win tackles. We've long been decieved by the presence of Austin Okocha, players like him appear once in a lifetime.

the only sad thing is the CIV - Mali game that shld have been a match to watch will now become a mere formalty . . . each team trying to save their energy for the next round.

God help us if Benin does not even pick 3 points against us.

Sani Lulu and co must go!

@ doyindamus

And u think that seyi olofinjana is any better in terms of creativity.

The last team nigeria had was in the mid nineties. The US 94 eagles and the Japan 93 eaglets. A combination of these two generation of players brought us the Olympic gold in 96. After that it has been downhill.

The king is dead. Long live the king.

Nigeria sadly is overrated. And what makes this situation worse is our boastfulness and arrogance we conceal as confidence.

We haven't had a team for years. And at the rate we are going, it will only get worse unless we go for the guys from the age group.

We are very much like the english national team. Overrated, over bloated, under achieving, super hyped.

We should watch out for Benin

We just have to sit down and look @ what I call the Westerhoff formula. I am not saying we bring him back but we should really go back and study how he did things. I don't think that it is just a mere co incidence that the Golden years of Nigerian football was in his era and even the glory that we have been living on was just the continuation of the groundwork he had laid. Just like everything in Nigeria, that groundwork has been broken and the center can not hold. This is really sad.

Last I heard, the man (Westerhoff was still in Nigeria, Kwara state to be precise)
