You haven't proved anything but how jealous you are of the success of the far girls. You should have chosen some other way to express your opinion. Like this you yourself have just admitted that the fair girls are more admired than the dark sisters.

Ofcourse some people are yellow brown, golden brown, caramel lol, but Fella's song was describing the bleached lady's (who were once dark) not naturally fair women.
@Omo Oke, I'm glad you think and know you are beautiful, your skin tone being part of it, but I don't see why you should have a problem with a lighter girl having the same attitude.
If she also "loves her golden body". like you love your "dark body", would you describe it as a "stupid mentality"?
Beauty comes in all shades, I don't see why someone felt they needed to make a thread about it though, but then its a free country hey?

Listen to the song again. It says "original and artificial e dey" bleach = artificial yellow natural = original yellow. no way to go about it 'cause you really can't question authority. I still prefer the term "fair" Of course you do, . but I still prefer the term "yellow" or "pale" because the terms "fair", "light" which carry positive connotations are used to refer to paler people to rise them above or make them superior to darker skinned people (don't really know when/ how this began but it was started by white people.) "dark" carries a negative connotation in the english language asians aren't/weren't called "yellow" by racist americans for nothing. because "yellow" doesn't carry a positive connotation. you instead want to be called "light skinned" instead or "fair" 'cause they make you seem better than everyone else. so i'll call you pale or yellow and we can all be fair (no pun intended). lol

Wesleyan, I don't see how yellow alone is offensive to a light skinned person, or the term dark for that matter. In fact whites calling orientals yellow has never been a racial slur or carry a negative undertone in itself, as far as I know. Their racial derogation of orientals has more to do with the shape of their eyes than anything else.
Light skin comes in shades just like dark does, not everyone who is like skinned is yellow, I know some yellow, some caramel, some light brown, it really depends on how much red undertones are in the skin, this is not a big issue anyhoo.
Come to think of it maybe you do have issues, lol the whole "they make you feel better than everyone else" statement really gave that game away.
Yellow, golden, honey brown, caramel, doesn't matter what you call it really.
Sure aint nothing wrong with being "yellow" or brown for that matter.

@Omo Eko, I was not suggesting for a minute you have a problem with light girls, I'm simply saying if its ok for you to love the way you look, skin tone included, in the bold and applaudable way you do, its also ok for a girl of a lighter skin tone to do the same without it being percieved as having a "stupid mentality",

what ever your opinion is, "yellow" was used to refer to asian american immigrants in the 17th century in a derogatory way. I don't see what yellow has got to do with eyes. I don't know about today. It doens't have as much negative connotation as "black" but it doesn't have as positive of a connotation as "fair" or "light" that's why Michelin said she prefered to be called "fair" or "light" I don't get how you think i'm playing some game. Go in the english dictionary. look up the word "fair" and "light" then look up the word "black" and "dark" tell me which one is better and which one will make you feel good about yourself. I'm just saying what i see as the truth. it doesn't matter what you call it but by just looking at the topic title "light skinned girls are better" obviously. light is always better than dark (in english) isn't this true?

Weslayan, I am not disputing that yellow is used to refer to Oriental people, just as the hispanic man is often refered to as the brown man. What I was disputing was that yellow in that context was inherently derogatory, I have never known it to be enforced as such, so why would it now be a derogatory term for me, as a yellow (well red) person?
, lol yellow does not have to do with eyes, maybe I didn't explain my point properly. I was saying it is the Oriental feature of having "slitty" eyes which is used to negatively against them, not their skin tone, ie "chinky", etc. I see how, in a particular context the term "fair" or "light" may be seen as complimentary, but yellow does not really have a negative connotation of its own, Just like in some instances, the term "dark" can also be complimentary, we've all heard the term tall DARK and handsome, an association created by these same Europeans, their supposed choice pick in a male. It all depends on context.
The word Black is used to describe our race, whatever the hue, from dark to light, not just non yellow Blacks. Yes dark, black etc can often have negative connotations, depending on the context, but so can pale.
I'm not saying you are playing a game, but this topic's heading does not suggest that lightskinned girls are better than darkskinned period, its one person's thread, again context.
You and I both know there are people for who the reverse is the same. I don't understand why he felt the need to share it, but its his own choice. My problem is that he chose to also single out those who are not ligh in the way he phrased it, "better", "better" than what?, "I like light skinned girls" would have sufficed, but hey, none of us pay for his internet connection.

As far as I am concerned, darker girls are better. Being light isn't all it's cracked up to be. Light skin girls struggle to cover up spots more than dark skin girls and everybody knows that dark chocolate is the ultimate skin colour.

Blacker the berry the sweeter the juice. Also are you people talking about real light skin or the light skin people give themselves out of a bottle? Its all skin cancer in the end anyway. We all know darken skin is better protected against the sun. The person who even started the topic is beyond stupid but hey thats life. @Omo eko, lol, so you have shown your true colours eh? You think dark girls are better, but you don't see it as "stupid mentality"?, lol, lol
@ Lady Tyou say, its stupid to be considered beautiful solely on the colour of the skin, but "blacker the berry, sweeter the juice" attempts to do just that. Light skinned people in Africa, even the white ones in North African desert, ever heard of any cancer epidemic? I know plenty of dark skinned Blacks with cancer, and spots.
The truth is, one mans ugly is another mans beauty, we women need to learn how to accept that, some will prefer light/dark/tall/short/slim/fat etc, there is no point castigating someone for their preference, but then vehemently defending your right to just just the same.
White people are tanning, but I think you'll find they are after the golden glow, anyhoo, thats their own business, their fads tend to swing in round abouts.
I totally agree ALL women should love their colour.

You really moved away from the point i was making. which was about michelin's choice of words in refering to dark skinned people vs light skinned people. but oh well. my point was "yellow" vs "fair" vs dark" vs "pale" vs "black" which one has the most positive connotation and which one has the least (according to the english dictionary). I was trying to make everything fair (excuse the pun) and leveled. anyways, since you decided for a discussion about yellow as related to asians, this is a dictionary definition from American Heritage dictionary: yel·low (yĕl'ō) pronunciation n.
1. 1. The hue of that portion of the visible spectrum lying between orange and green, evoked in the human observer by radiant energy with wavelengths of approximately 570 to 590 nanometers; any of a group of colors of a hue resembling that of ripe lemons and varying in lightness and saturation; one of the subtractive primaries; one of the psychological primary hues. 2. A pigment or dye having this hue. 3. Something that has this hue. 2. Chiefly Southern US. The yolk of an egg. 3. Western US. Gold. Used formerly by prospectors. 4. yellows Any of various plant diseases usually caused by fungi of the genus Fusarium or viruses of the genus Chlorogenus and characterized by yellow or yellowish discoloration.
adj., -er, -est.
1. Of the color yellow. 2. 1. Having a yellow-brown skin color. 2. Offensive. Of or being a person of Asian origin. 3. Slang. Cowardly. as you can see, It IS derogatory and offensive when used to refer to asians. see also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_peril

Weslyan, Its not that I was trying to move away, maybe sometimes, points that people are trying to make are not exactly clear, especially in writing. It was nothing to do with me being underhand or anything, we are adults having an exchange of thought thats all.
I've noted your definition "yellow", the whole asian explanation doesn't exist in my dictionary, beside the word "yellow" . However, I can not truely say that yellow in connection with Asians has any negative connotation in my experience, like it does with Black, if as you suggested, we yellow, girls don't want to be called yellow, due to that exerpt from your dictionary thats a bit far fetched since, there is no real evidence of that association in the wider world. thats today's reality,
Weslyan, it depends on the context of the word.

I know what I wrote like me break it down for you darling.
1) This whole light skin thing is centred MAINLY on light skin girls or boys being preferred soley on their skin tone
2) Yes some people prefer darker skin but its not something that is overblown or championed like light skin is.
3) There is a stupid obsession with light skin people. That you don't get with dark skin.

No need to break it down, maybe just to reflect, lol
Your original comment was to suggest that dark skinned girls are generally not chosen for their skin tone, but for who they are. That totally depends on the guy doing the choosing, I know plenty of men who are dark skin crazy. What about the Naomi's and the Alec Weks, the Imans or the Grace jones', all noted for their beauty, in fact more so than Halle or Beyonce ever have been, you think their skin tones had nothing to do with them being chosen? Look plenty of men go crazy over a dark skinned girl, especially if she is very dark.
We really have no way of knowing that every man chooses a woman SOLELY because she is light skinned, I think its untrue to suggest that. What it may be is that when you see a man with a light skinned girl, all YOU see is her skin tone, thats different.
I agree there are obseessions, which vary depending on the arena. These fads have always been around, and always change.
