Someone Is Owing Me Money:How Do I Recover It.
« on: January 23, 2008, 07:44 AM »

Late 2006 a friend of mine from university days who happened to be a banker came to me for help on behalf of his cousin who needed money to fix a business problem. He promised I will get my money within a month. I wrote a cheque for  for 150k for the cousin but I insisted he gave me a postdated cheque due in a month's time ( knowing the implications of giving a bounced cheque).

At the end of the month I paid in this guy's cheque and it was returned 'because of lack of fund. That was Dec. 2006, and ever since I have not been able to get my money. Between my friend and his cousin all I have been getting is one story or the other eg things are tight for him, he is having his wedding, his wife just put to bed etc. Maybe they think I can afford to let 150K go.

I  have threaten them with reporting the case to EFCC/Police ( knowing the implications of giving a bounced cheque) but they are not bulging. I am tired and want to get my money back by any legal means available. Please what do I do ?

From your post it seems u have been patient enough and have no option than to take it up the right authorities. For one u can go to the Police since u have evidence in form of the returned check, that he is owing u  though I suspect that NPF being as corrupt as they are will ask for part of that money when they help you recover it. Good luck!
