I saw the latest movie, "'why did I get married?" on DVD last week. It was good! I dislike 80/20 rules that i had been through my previous marriage.   Angry

I love Tyler Perry and all his movies and theaters. I just missed back 2004 when he came to Kennedy Center in DC and invited us, deaf choir from my church as VIP backstage where we performed our gospel song in sign language.

After theater show ended, he knew how to sign "i love you" showing us deaf choir. (i was told by my church deaf choir/active member) Grin

Because I just joined my church new member in 2005. Anyway, we deaf choir do meet several black gospel singers/celebrities yearly either my church or guest church with deaf ministry served.

I do not care what people say, I think Tyler Perry has emerged as one of the best African American filmmaker and scriptwriter.  Besides, he has created more jobs for Black actors and actresses.

The same black actors/actresses that lack range in movies. Those are the kinds he can make movies for, the ones that rely on idiotic black movies that play on their stereotypes. See one of his movies and you've seen them all. Same ol' recycled garbage

None od the RESPECTED black actors/actresses of Hollywood would be caught dead in his movies. They are beyond that tripe

Yes you are right to some extent.  But his movies target a certain audience.  I love them for the humour. There is no difference in what is going on generally in the movie industry--black or white.  All are trite and the same old recycled garbage. When last did you see a good movie in the past 10 years.  Very few I bet. The general atmosphere.

So he is not alone in the "lack of motivation" thingy.

I love when people bad mouth Tyler.  It motivates me to pay to see his movies several times in the theatres and buy his dvds.  As long as he projects something positive and I can relate to, he has my money. I want him to become disgustingly rich, where he has the resources to delve into other things.

I absolutely loved "Why."  It was the most enjoyable movie I had seen all year.  I rarely support commercial theatre, but I will go and pay to see a Tyler production.

Someone was right, I would say that about 90% of the movies shown commerically is hyped junk.  Yet that doesn't stop folks from paying to see the junk.  Tyler appeals to a particular audience.

P.S.  Meet the Browns will open March 21, 2008.
Tyler primary supporters are AA christian black women.  As long as he keeps us happy, he will be okay.

I paid to see why 6 times.  I did not sit throught the movie six times, but I plunked down my money. When the haters were raking him over the coals, I was opening my wallet.  Let your haters be your motivators.

I believe many folks are simply angry that they could never receive that kind of support and success, and it eats them up alive.  He gives the folks what they want, and he is rewarded handsomely.  If you project isn't getting the same kind of atention, then obviously the folks don't want what you got.

Go Tyler.

why is it that offering (valid) criticism of Tyler Perry's work, one is always accused of "hating"?

i really hate that term "hater" because it's become an all-purpose tag used to shut down any criticism, regardless of how valid the criticism might be.

But that's NOT the only way to be funny though. Most black movies think the only way to get an audience is by throwing the typical black stereotypes at you. It's insulting to one's intelligence., Last I checked John Singleton and Spike Lee, both black directors didnt realy have to rely on such and the times taht they do, it wasnt bloody annoying

Seriously how is any of Tyler's movies different from the other. Gosh. I can at least say that for Do The Right Thing and Inside Man.
I would like to see more black directors doing movies like Malcolm X, Finding Forrester, want to go the comic route, I thought 4 Brothers was SO hilarious, now that's funny to me. not garbage that Tyler has going or BarberShop or whatever
I wont say his movies don't have "good messages" but I'd like to think he can be alot more creative.
Quality over Quantity I say

AJ, I've seen so many great movies in the last year that don't follow the same formula. I tend to avoid blockbusters(black and white) for the most part because they are just mind-numbing with the same nonsense

Dont let me even start on his pitiful sitcom and the fact that the NNACP gave it 3 awards. Tasteless lunatics. There was no other show they could award so why not award the worst thing ever I guess

D-Punk aka Hell I don't even remember,

Talk all you want fool.  I am going to keep giving him my money.  You just jealous because you will never be respected or appreciated enough to draw the kind of money or audience he does.  I am going to be in the theatre opening day, with my girls, and we are going to help him get richer.

P.S.  What black dude uses the word "gosh?"  That is such a nerd or white boy phrase.  What a sissy.

P.S. Folks how many black men use the term "gosh?" That is a nerdy white guy term. I don't know any black dude that would use such a stupid term.

Lmao first off so much for being a black CHRISTIAN sista. Shouldnt you be turning your cheek or something? Oh yea, you're fake.

As for your second comment. How pathetic. How old are you again? I'd expect such a retarded response from a 10 yr old. Yes I am criticizing a director because I am jealous of him. That's exactly it. Of all the directors in the world, it's the mediocre Tyler Perry that makes me green with envy.  Grin If you sincerely believe that then you are seriously sad. Roger Ebert is a critic and is worth MORE than Tyler Perry. What do you have to say about that? Didirin

As for last comment, I'm Nigerian. Maybe in your bush area of Boondocks, Alabama with your clueless Nigerian husband who needed a greencard such words are "white only" but unfortunately for you, I don't speak ebonics. Btw If ANY WORD is considered  "white" it's DUDE, you hypocritical lunatic.

Lmao why did you edit your original response, no worries. I already quoted you.  Grin

This is why the black american community will never go forward. Constantly in denial. Cant handle the bloody truth.

Instead of being creative, they rather just continue with COONERY all in the name of making money while acting like complete retards then they wonder why they don't get any respect.
When people try to talk to them about it, they rather run around covering their ears screaming "hater". Get real.

I say the same for Nollywood directors too. Greedy psychos with no vision just churning out the same garbage each time.

Now you may think this is being helpful but its one more example of why the black community in the US will continue to move only in one direction - backward!
While your colleagues are more interested in investing their hard earned cash to create more wealth for themselves you are there wasting your social security check on a mere movie?  Shocked

And you think this is something to be proud of? Na wa o.

You're right. I do find his movies funny but not really high-standard because i would not buy 'em or go to see 'em.
I don't see his movies as insultin' to 'my' intelligence because like i always say 'I am not black neither am a white, am just
Nigerian'. So, if the people his movies seem to be goin' at aren't mad, why shld i be complainin'?? Cheesy

I saw Why did i get married recently

i watched the stage play way back.

I really liked it, Janet Jackson was really impressive.

The only thing i hated about the movie a was Jill Scotts hair. Tongue

I and my friends realised something too,

In a black movie, the white people seem washed out

devoid of color and looking like dead people, while the blacks look so rich n vibrant.

In a white movie, the blacks look so black, infact they are almost burnt out, like they used The Burn Tool to the max!

ALl in all, Go Tyler! Grin
