Ok, if it is working for us now, do we then go ahead and replace it with what has not so far worked for those who use it now?? I mean if you want to argue for changing what we have now to better, then we should go for what the middle east has and not what the west is offering right now as it happens to have failed in so many places. We can badmouth the practise in the middle east all we want but the truth remains, many of the countries still have some of the lowest numbers anywhere in the world. So again, the western idea is not a REASONABLE way to go if we are really looking to make the situation better and not worse.
Maybe we shld adopt the policy of honor killings. At least it will scare girls away from boys. |

Has western sex education stemmed the tide of rising STDs or teenage pregnancies in the West?The clear and obvious answer is a resounding No! Compare the stats-STDs and teenage pregnancies-in the Western world for the 60s and today.What you see is a rapid rise in both teenage pregnancies and STDs. The question is:if sex education hasn't stemmed the tide in the West,why assume it will be the anti-dote for Africa? While Muslim society may adopt "unwholesome" measures,one thing is clear,there lack of sex education hasn't caused roaring rates of STIs and teenage pregnancies.This further undermines the claims that somehow,sex education is an elixir for such problems. Some manner of government run awareness campaign is neccesary but we should never exaggerate the potential benefits of comprehensive sex education. |

I have never supported the idea of sex education. It is simply a license to indulge in lasciviousness.
I think the fact that the western world has lower rates of STDs is down to literacy level and not necessarily because they give their boys condoms from the age of 5. Every educated man/woman is better empowered to protect themselves.

Nobody is saying we should become like the Arabs but if we had to copy any people(I happen to think we are okay) in order to reduce STDs and pregnancies,the only workable alternative has been the Middle-Eastern model.
That of the West clearly doesn't work.I happen to think we are alright,we need some measure of Govt awareness campaigns but the idea that elaborate sex education schemes solve much is fatuous.

What exactly are the statistics for abortions in the middle east. wouldnt surprise me if the hijab wearing population have each had a few in their lives. They have excellent doctors after all, you could probably never tell with their styrofoam hymen.

the voice of women in the middle-east are supressed. women over there are usually too frightened to report rape. their religious courts overwhelmingly favor courts. abortions are done by illegal clinics which obviously don't report date. AID's awareness is still considered a taboo in most of these countries. there aid's rate seems low due to media censorship and lack of statistics. anyone that believes in liberty wouldn't want to live in theocratic country.

As of the year 2008, Abortion rate is lower in Nigeria than it is in America and most of the west actually.
do u honestly trust data collection in nigeria? i mean i don't think illegal clinics are going to report their abortions. people seem to be stuck in our old ways. social stigma has led to the surpression of the voice of nigerian women. putting fear in kids or telling them to wait before marriage(na by force i go marry??) is getting archaic

AIDS is rising in the west rather than reducing inspite of all our so-called sophisticated civilised methods. I don't know when we'll remove the wool from over our eyes and see clearly when things are not working.
Do we always have to wait for the Western leaders to change things before we see them galringly? If the western media reports that their methods are not working, then and only then will some colomentality people see that those methods are not working.

much as i agree the western world is influencing the way things are done here,that still don't mean we should take 100%after them.sure there're some good sturfs to emulate in their style but i don't really dig their idea of sex ed.i still am an addent supporter of the african style,ma mum do tell me in those days the implications of engaging in early sexual activity,she told me to respect the female gender unlike now that they're shown as sex tool in various ads on our tvs.we were tot to abstain.i also am of the opinion that ma kids should be smart enough to make choices unda ma supervison,you definitely must not lord it over them else they'd try out those sturfs you wont have them do outside with the encouragement of their buddies out there.i subscribe to a rich blend of both culture and then teach them the injunctions of your religion.it works

Let your children hear it from you before they do from outside, and mind you, with practical examples.
However I don't support sex education in our school curriculla because the rate of sexual abuse: rape, abortion, pornography, teenage pregnancy, prostitution et cetera where sex education is practiced (The West) has proven the counter productivity of sex education in academic curiculla.
Teach your child from home, and don't commit it to the hands of one sex depraved teacher. Period.
