Super(?) Eagles, Patriotism & Miracle seekers

I find our comments about the Eagle's failure very surprising but not unusual, rather typical Naija.
1. SUPER Eagles - The super is just like when we refer to our country as the Giant of Africa, even though we are only giant in population that has not translated into socio-economic benefits. Did we not perform consitently better when we were plain GREEN Eagles???
Nowadays, we are too engrossed in unjustified self-aggrandisement both at the personal and collective levels.
2. PATRIOTISM - It seems patriotism is only meant for the "labourers" or ordinary citizens not for those who break the laws & loot the treasury blind and by so doing encourage others including football administrators to do likewise. Na everybody dey smart, abi no be so???
Why should the players perform impressively and play their hearts out if their welfare is not adequately catered for or guaranteed despite the billions allocated to sports?
When was the last time our country featured on any top medal list in a global athletic event?
3. MIRACLE - I guess we were expecting that we will again "wobble & fumble" through to winning the cup, especially after defeating our tiny neighbours, Benin that fielded a number of Nigeria-born players. Well our exit just shows that work & pray is what wins the race NOT pray only.
Hopefully we will, individually, reflect on our sordid societal situation that manifests in all aspects of our national life and take small steps of positive change

Has anyone paused to ask just how much kickback was received on Vogt's contract?
What percentage was built into his monthly pay for someone else to just collect for doing nothing?
How much some of the tired legs (quarter-to-retire professionals) might have paid in cash or kind to some NFA official to ensure they are called to camp? That way they can take some paid vacation from their professional clubs in Europe?

Nigeria didn't deserve anything better than a loss to the Ghanaian team. The only good thing NFA has ever done since they employed that yahoo yahoo coach Bertis is to sack him. I met him monday night at Accra airport and he was flying to Germany. I think that is where he belongs. The NFA as a body also has a big portion of the blame. In all sincerity, I think we should put an end to these foreign coaches and make use of Nigerians who understand the politics of the game. Samson Siasia took his boys and they did wanders. Today, mikel is playing in one of the world's biggest leagues. Augustine Eguaveon took our boys to Egypt 2 years ago and he performed well,better than this Bertis Goat. And I am very positive that Kanu will even do best as a coach. Now what are we talking about? If we insist on foreign coaches, then let us go back to bonfrere or westerhof. We need a coach that will bring up the next generation of super eagles from the scratch. Boys that are hungry to succeed in their career. We have virtually tested all the coaches in the world and we have run out of options. It is only sensible we make use of what we have got. The NFA too should give a free hand to whoever coach they decide to hire this time around. Football is not a game of sentiments!

Update: NFA Deays Vogts SackThe Nigeria Football Association, NFA, this afternoon, postponed the planned sack of the German technical adviser of the Super Eagles, Berti Vogts. At a world press conference in Accra today, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan, a member of the executive committee of the NFA, said the decision on Vogt’s future will be announced in Nigeria. About 400 journalists from all over the world, attended the conference, which dramatically lasted just two minutes. Ladan was accompanied by the media spokesman, Demola Olajire.
The sports journalists, who kept vigil at the conference hall of the Alisa Hotel camp of the Eagles in Accra, were kept waiting for hours before Ladan came in to make the anti-climactic announcement. Ladan also said the NFA board would probe the dismal performance of the Eagles in Ghana. He also said the NFA regretted the sack of the technical adviser on the pages of newspapers.
The delay in announcing Vogt’s sack, according to the NSC Boss, Abdulrahaman Gimba, is because he needed the approval of the Presidency before the news would be broken to the world.
It was also gathered that Globacom boss, Mike Adenuga Jnr. is favourably disposed to the sack of the German as he was said to have told the NSC Chairman, Abdulrahaman Gimba, Dr. Amos Adamu, NSC D.G., NFA Chairman, Sani Lulu and the body’s scribe, Bolaji Ojo-Oba about his sadness over Vogts’ technical incompetence.

No world class coach will come to NGR in a while. This rot didnt just begin, the rot started when Angola qualified for the mundial ahead of us. It would have taken a little time for Vogts to have instilled a winning mentality in the Eagles. the Ivoriens as talented as they are, have only won the nations cup once, theyve been perennial underachievers. who says they are going to win this tourney? We need to start seeing things in the true colors so as to move forward. Westerhof didnt qualiffy for world cup in 1990, he was battered in the opening game of the algiers 90, yet, he got to the finals and lost, he lost again at senegal 92, but we'll knew how he graduated the winning mentality into the 94 set that shown brilliantly at the 94 tourneys. The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on Tuesday stunned a crowded press conference by denying that Super Eagles coach Berti Vogts has been sacked.
NFA board member Mohammed Ladan read out a short statement stating that although the NFA recognised “the dismal performance of the Super Eagles at the 26th Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana despite the full support of the government of Nigeria, the Executive Committee regrets the widespread rumours about the status of the coach and dissociates itself from the reports claiming that he has been dismissed”.
The press conference, which was scheduled for 10h00 local time, did not start until nearly 13h00, with insiders telling KickOffNigeria.com that the NFA board had received instructions from 'above' to delay the announcement by at least 24 hours.
This was to give the NFA time to brief Globacom chairman Mike Adenuga, whose company foots the bill for the coach's wages.

Berti Vogts can not be paid millions to learn on the job and reside in Germany while working in Nigeria. Look at your own text, Rudd Voller and Aime Jackuet were indigineous coaches hired to rebuild there National teams.
They were not international coaches paid millions to learn on the job. what are you trying to pass across? i just told you notable coaches lost woefully while handling some international teams and nobody came up with stuffs like what you guys are saying. who says he lacks technical know how? you or your fellow Nairalanders? i dey laff. he won the euro tourney with Germany in 1996. does that spark someone who doesnt know what he does? why wasnt perreira sacked? oh oh , he knows how to select very well and yet he lost  SA know where they are going, they are building for the world cup. We here, we don't have a clue of whats going on, we act based on reactions, we don't have a mind of our own. How on earth are we expecting those guys to have performed well with all the handwriting on the wall? we will not qualify for the world cup again and in 3 years, we'll be like sudan |

Vogt is sacked is the best news to hear. He shouldnt only be sacked but should be flogged,sanctioned, tried in court and jailed for a while. He will be in his room in Germany making L*ve wit his shory and coaching the country using email.
How can we employ such a coach that doesnt understand the game of football properly. He has failed everywhere he went and we employed him. He has a brain tumor and he has a fake coaching certificate. He is a M*ron for making us bad. Even my grandmum can coach better than Vogt.
Sani Lulu must go to Hell for bringing us shame. He should be sacked with the entire crew of NFA.
