Guys, I must say that I have been impressed and overwhelmed by the wealth of information you people have been dishing out here on this section of nairaland since i join. I need your advice and help if that can be obtained. I have a budget of $15000 ~ about =N= 1.875Million for buying, shipping and clearing of a Toyota Camry 2003/2004 model to Lagos. I decide to go this route because this is my first car and I do not want to go higher than =N=2 million and even if i go up to =N=2.3 my choice of new cars is limited. I also do not want to take a loan to get a car. In addition to this, I do not want a salvage car because that is what i found with some cars i have spoken to people about here on nairaland. When i check the VIN history of most of the cars i found out they are uusuallybedevilled with either odometer tampering or being "lemon" vehicles. I have checked some cars on Yahoo Auto and that was how I arrived at a budget of $15000, if what i heard here about the cost of shipping from new jersey being $1500 and clearing in Nigeria being around 250k ($2000) is correct. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

The reason why so many people end up with accident/salvage history cars and have their mileage tampered with is because people are never realistic with their prices!, and unscrupulous dealers being who they are, will find a way of giving you what you want at the price you want but there is a nasty price to pay for that - Salvage history!; Lemon cars; tampering mileage!! I always tell people to go to this website: www.kbb.com - The website (kelly blue book (kbb)) is a recognised authority and is used all over the United States for setting and checking car values. Check for Private Party value (PPV) - this is the best value. You may get these prices from private owners in USA (usually not interested in making a profit) Check for Retail Value (RV) - this is the value a person is going to pay for one if he gets it from a dealership Trade In Value (TIV) - this is the value you will get for your car if you went to trade it in with a US car dealer in exchange for a new one. (many Americans hate going through the hassles of selling their old cars and prefer to just trade it in for a new one) I suggest to anyone interested in getting a car from the USA to check this site :- www.kbb.com If your price or expectations are unreal and naive, you will know. If you want something good, the reality in life is that you will have to pay for it!. Value is value anywhere in the world, period!!. Our people say " Soup wey sweet, na aji no moto kill am". You get what you pay for, be real and be safe!. A 2003/2004 Camry will set you back $9000 t0 $10500 depending on the mileage. The lower the miles the more it will cost. If you spend $9500 on the car, it will cost another $1500 to ship to lagos and clearing in lagos should cost about N250,000.00 ($2000). This shoud give you a ballpark figure in the neighborhood of $13,000.00 (landed cost in lagos). Now, Specifications and Mileage may differ and affect cost - but that is up to you. let me know if you are interested. I have a forum thread for those importing directlly from the US (you may read it and get my information there). I wish you the very best in your endeavours. Cheers.

@ Midas02 I understand all this your explanation and I believe and know that the budget of $15000 is enough and adequate for any serious and scruplous bizman to get the required car and still make profit without trying to sell me a salvage titled/lemon car or stolen car. If you can get the car let me know. My requirements are Camry 2003 with allow wheels and 4 cylinders, automatic transmission, LE Trim The mileage would determine how much i would pay for the car and lastly the VIN must be provided. I am very serious and the first person who get me what i want would be the person that I would get the car from @vanessa I am still expecting your mail concerning the car we spoke about

@midas02 This car mileage is way too high. I have seen less mileage car for lower price on yahoo auto. I think i would pass on this. Also, when you said if i want alloy wheels you can have them installed before shipping can you elaborate. Does it mean additional cost? @Okejazz I have checked the VIN history of the car you referred me to it is clean and qualify for a buyback with good rating. Can you get it for me?

High mileage means nothing. Sound engine and sound gear box should always be your first worry when buying a car.
I can get you one here in nigeria for 2M last price. If intersted give me a call on 08068097693
