I am studying in Glasgow and can tell you that Scotland is the lastest International students destination in the UK because of their "Fresh Talent scheme" that allows non-EEA citizens a two-year visa extension if they study in Scotland.
I do not know much about Edinburgh. But I am aware that University of Edinburgh is one of the best universities in Scotland. To the best of my knowledge, Scotland is a good country, when you come here you will find that the people will be very friendly towards you, but like any other city anywhere there is some bad points too. But the Good outdoes the bad.

Gamine Have you thought of Aberdeen? The city is full of Nigerians because university of Aberdeen offers Oil & gas course. Nigerians even have their own church over there. So if Oil & gas course is your thing or you are the type who loves gossiping and robbing shoulders with our country people then think of Aberdeen. If you have no time and love doing your own thing, then join me in the West End of Glasgow. Moreover, Glasgow is better in terms of socialising. It is the biggest city in Scotland.

The Fresh Talent - Working in Scotland Scheme is a programme created by the Scottish Executive to allow non-EEA nationals who have studied in Scotland to live and work in the country for up to 2 years after graduation. After the 2 year limit is over, members of the scheme must leave the UK unless they are successful in applying for residency under existing policy, for example the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
The purpose of the scheme is to deal with problems of population decline and skill shortages in Scotland.

Edinburgh is a great city and the Univ of Edinburgh is one of the best in the UK (1ST tier rated). I can assure u that it will be worth your while. There's a growing Nigerian presence there and even 2 or 3 RCCG parishes. I was in Edinburgh (Heriot Watt University) for my M.Sc between 2006 and last year and I've since returned to Nigeria.
The city has very good history with lovely ancient castles for sight seeing, cinemas, a football club if you are into it (Hearts FC at Murrayfield), excellent and cheap transportation (a journey was 1 pound flat on the Lothian buses with day tickets being 2.50 pounds), a "dudu" night club (Massa) at Market Street beside Waverley train station. As it is, I'll be visiting Edinburgh at least once a year on vacation (I liked it that much).
If you want any other info about the city, I'll be willing to volunteer it

@The One last i checked Edinburgh was 13th on d list There was no single black person on the schools brochure its like black people don't go there o i no want that kain school! Whats the living cost like because i know nobody in scotland

Gamine,
Do not judge a book by it's cover, no black person on their prospectus or website does not mean the uni has little or no black person studying there. Why don't you visit Scotland first and talk to the schools, that will help you to decide where to go. That was what I did.
As for the living cost, you will find the info on the website of those schools.

@ Gamine plss, i don't want to get lost in a sea of white!
someone help!! @ Gamine: even if you're the only Black person in the entire school or even the entire city, just relax and make friends with whoever you find there. There are probably other Nigerians at the school anyway, but am just saying. Every situation has its ups and downs. There are advantages to being among fellow Nigerians, but that shouldnt stop you from socializing with other races too. It can be tough at first, but you'll get used to it. You seem a tad jittery at the thought of being in the minority over there. The important thing is what kind of attitude do the people have towards foreigners. If they are friendly, half the socializing problem is already solved. Most times if you're not too sensitive and are a bit humble, you'll be okay. Even among fellow Nigerians someone can still be the only "something", on occasion, so one just has to try and adapt as much as possible.

Something tells me Gamine, you're only trying to waste our time. First its " I just received my admission package from University of Edinburgh" "Is the school good enough"?
Now why would you be asking that now after having gone through all the admission process. One would have thought that is the first thing you should have done - find out all you can about the school before applying for admission. Then next is "Thanks Bulga, am actually considering University of Glasgow".
So are you going to start the admission process for Glasgow all over again? Or you think you can just call UCAS from Nigeria to change your university just like that, after having received one admission package, a copy of which would have gone to the British High Commission in Lagos?

Oh oh, whats this? I didn't know you are Gamine too. My reply was directed at him. But for your information dear Solicitor and Advocate, Registration forms sent to anybody is called just that - 'Application forms and brochure'. And when one is finally admitted, he or she gets an "admission package" which includes letter of admission, notification of tuition/hostel/maintenance fees etc.

@llyodhill Congratulations on your admission.
Regarding your accommodation forms, contact the school for this. It is always advisable to apply for the accommodation space as early as possible.
Regarding the embassy's list of required documents for your visa, you can find that in the 'General UK Visa Enquiries' thread (first thread in this section). You can seek more clarification in that thread as well.
