Now, let me relate my experience to you such that other contributors here do not fall victim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought the Nissan Pathfinder from a 'Big Carshop' in Agidingbi, Ikeja, lagos. One of the original 'big boys' you can think of on the Agidingbi corridor. I wont want to mention which part of the country he is from so as not be termed a tribalist.
Within a week of buying the vehicle, the radiator bursted while I was in traffic. Area Boys took 5,000 naira from me right there to help me push the vehicle out of the way. This was around 10pm when i was on my way back hole from the Island after the day's work. It was only then that I discovered that the radiator had been worked upon. He promised ordering me a radiator from the States and that I should keep the car for a while. Knowing how long it might take i was forced to shell out a huge sum to buy the radiator after about two weeks. And, all this within a month of buying the vehicle. I bought the car in January 2007. The radiator did not come until six months after he had promised me.
About two months into buying the car I started hearing some noise at the back. The vehicle was not moving properly. I had to ask my mechanic to strip the vehilce down at the back only to discover that it had been in an accident at the back and that it was not even properly repaired that was why the vehicle was making such nooise. Frm then on the boot started creaking and making some tiny noise in the back when you get into bumps or rough road - still showing that the vehicle had probably been rammed from the back.
Also, from what you just posted here, I can see that the odometre was rolled back. It is pretty clear now that the dealer was unfair and dishonest. Well, I leave all that to the fact that i was too trusting, and all because the guy came highly recommended. Today, I still have the Nissan ant it still looks okay from outside. But the creaking noise in bumps and rough roads have put me off it. The only thing I wonder is when the vehicle had an accident. From what you reported here it appears to still be in some good shape before it was sold off. My guess is that the vehicle was smuggled into Nigeria from say Cotonou and must have had an accident then.
As for the Camry, I was the one that bought in November 2007. From then till date, it has been a smooth ride. Infact I have travelled with it several times and it has been sweet driving it. Drives close to new as possible. It was well maintained by the previous owner and it shows. All I just did was to service it and put it on the road. For me the Camry is money well invested whilst the Nissan was a fraud carefully concealed under the veneer of good business. Life need not be like that.
