The vehicle was issued a salvage title and not a rebuilt title. I don't think the vehicle was fixed here in the states.

Please people, if you already own the vehicle, save yourself the headache of finding out it's history except for informational purpose.

I think I owe it to fellow Nigerians to give a little education on Salvage and Rebuilt title. First, Salvage/Rebuilt title are not always bad. I read someone earlier that said a salvage title vehicle runs for like 75% less than it's real value. That is a false statement if the vehicle is totally fixed. I drive a vehicle with prior salvage title. The main thing is the person disclosing to you that the vehicle has a salvage title. Morever a vehicle could have been in an accident and not have a salvage title. If the owner of a vehicle decides to pay the cost of fixing their vehicle out of their pocket, it would still have a clean title. So fellow Nigerians, don't go hay-wire about this salvage title thing. Just make sure from now before you buy a Vehicle coming from America you ask the seller if the vehicle was in an accident. There are some vehicles that regardless of them being fixed or not, they cannot be driven here in the states. The DMV issue them some sort of certificate that says the vehicle is never to be road legal. Just shine your eyes well well. Before a vehicle can be issued a Rebuilt title, it must have been fixed and inspected by the State patrol or whichever government safely people are in charge. Also, there is a different between a salvage and a rebuilt title. A SALVAGE TITLE is a title issue by an insurance company to say they are not going to fix the vehicle. That means they'll pay the owner and issue the salvage title. Not that a vehicle does not have to be in major accident. REBUILT TITLE is a title issued to mean the vehicle has been fully fixed an inspected. It is illegal to drive a vehicle with Salvage title but it is legal to drive with a rebuilt title. It just depends on the insurance company's policy. For example, I got into an accident in Sept 2003 with a 2002 Ford Mustang and it was my fault. Well, it cost my insurance company almost $10,000 to fix the vehicle. The policy of my insurance company is that if the repair cost is going to be more than $10,000, they will issue it a Salvage title. But because it wasn't more than that, the vehicle still kept it's clean title but with prior accident. Now to the funny part of it, it wouldn't cost that much if one took it to the body shop to fix. The body shops here extra charge when they know insurance company would be paying. I'll give you another part of the story, I know someone that took his vehicle to the body shop after an accident. He got a quote and the body shop guy gave him a quote based on the thought that insurance company was going to pay. We, the person then got the money from the insurance company, put it in the bank and then went to some other body shop to fix it and he told the guy he was going to pay out of his pocket. With that, he had thousands of dollars left after fixing the vehicle. So what am I trying to say, don't go bananas about the salvage and rebuilt thing. Just make sure the person discloses to you prior accident/flood report and make sure the vehicle was fully fixed with professional inspection. Shikena!
