Not sure what the steps are for the decoder- do you have any specifics (like the manufacturer of the box)? I'm not in Nigeria anymore, and I've never seen a HiTV box, but I'd be happy to help figure it out remotely :-)

HiTV uses transponders on Eutelsat W4. The channel listing for that satellite is here:
http://www.lyngsat.com/ew4.html
You won't be able to get all the channels on that satellite, though- some are encrypted, and others are spot beams (like the ones marked for Russia, etc) that don't put any signal out over Nigeria. The free channels you should be able to get in Nigeria are:

Transponder 2 (marked as owned by TrendTV- are they even still in business?)
-France 24 English
-Nollywood Movies
-Fashion TV Europe
-F-Men
-EWTN Africa & India
-Luxe TV UK

GTV and Multichoice also use that satellite, but their signals are all encrypted.

Hello rjhat,

come to think of it is there any way to by pass this encrypted sat? Why i asked is because at the location i'm presently, they use to be a free to air station suddenly some boddies came in and encrpted the signals. dey went digital expecting us to pay for it. You know it's funny the people take advantage of things dey didn't sole for Just because dey have money money. Please if u know any means by which one can de- encrypte this signal please send me an email ejimon902001@yahoo.com. be expecting your respones.

Right now I think am just tired of the 16 boring channels on the Hitv stuff, isnt there anything one can do to get more channels on this new receiver.

Secondly, someone told me we can use a Dstv Smartcard on the receiver and it will work quite well, how true???

please respond.

Regards.

I know u can use a spliter on the cable that connects to your dstv decoder and link to your Hitv decoder, which means  only one Dish and LNB is connectin u
