it's really amazing how ridiculously small minded we can be sometimes. I mean just because we've been doing something for donkey years doesn't make it alright and besides why are we so averse to change? Especially positive ones? If i recall, in the days of old our people were so anti-change that they violently protested this so called westernizaton that has brought us different technologies, tarred road, portable water, simple and basic human rights and their awareness, i could go on you know. but that, as you can attest to doesn't imply that these changes are bad. It's a given that the period of adjustment might be long and arduos but we'll get through it and we'll find our fun in some other ways (don't we always?). So for all those tongue-lashing soludo and his supporters, i urge you to use your tongue to count your teeth, and do not look a gift horse in the mouth. Let us not make the mistakes our preceeding generations made that accounts for the lax in our progress and development. One step at a time, Nigeria will be great and stand as a world power despite it's many psycophantic "patriots" of obsolete abd destructive 'cultures and traditions'. The world is changing and moving fast, you'd better step up or step out.

A young man asked his father this question. Father, if the God is good man, Why he made prostitutes, gambling and drinks? Father answered him with calm, "Son, people earn money, and people has to earn money. If a person earn a lot of money and keep it with himself without spending any. the money won't come out from him. So the God made these things, thus the money will flow to others too. Now the God added "Naira" too.

hmnm * thinks* well Its actually unnecessary for now, I mean , its okay, but why do we worry ourselves for such things like "spraying" when the main abuse is going on without any wahala, see, the election tribuna rulled out the last election pettition against the president when we all know, even a little kid knows that the last election process was a total shamble,
the average Nijain is hungry as in don't have a job, don't eat up to three a day and alll that, and we keep on worring about "spraying"
hey Nigeria! go get somehting doing

Oga follow peace, haba. You don dey bite too much. The problem with the naira is the use of ordinary paper in printing it. I think that is what you should concern yourself with now. I am going to spray this easter.whether u like it or not. You no get work. If you are out of ideas, why not resign.

me too, I will definitely spray the Nigerian Naira I love spraying it from behind, its fun
come to think of it
When the money is sprayed, few drops to the ground and they are picked up almost imediately, straighten and thats all Look at our Nigerian Police, see how they squeeze it as if it's moimoi CBN will not see that, bloody attention seekers. They just like to look in the wrong direction.
I hope that soludo of a guy wakes up one day.

Why you call KSA names like this? He a millionaire an accomplished musician. He doesn't need spraying for survival. It seems some of you didn't even read the article before you start writing. Even if spraying wasn't done way back in the time of tents and wood hunting, it is a way of life now. Culture changes. Read this direct quote:
the Ondo State-born musician said: "Spraying is part of our tradition and culture and it didn't start today. In the early days, our kings sprayed with cowries in a manner that depicted their status in the society. Although they didn't come out to do the spraying, the practice was to string the cowries and the messenger would then tie it round the head of the musician. And when cowries were no longer in use and coins came into being, spraying continued. Spraying is not bad but I'm against those who abuse the currency by either squeezing or trampling on it."

Spraying as it applies to owambe is not part of our culture in nigeria, it started when the politicians from the first republic i.e 1960 where diplaying their new ill gotten weath , but it used to remain in closed door parties at that time after which it died down when aguiyi ironsi became head of state.
When General Gowon became head of state and with our oil boom, spraying and owambe where resuscitated, institutionalized and bastardized and praise singers such as sunny ade, ebeneezer obey, dan maria jos became musical icons and big money makers.
Now this owambe money spraying has even gotten to northerners (hausa) who had a traditional culture of being humble unlike their yoruba counterparts who traditionally show off or brag about money!
Infact the foreigners in nigeria now are also getting into this culture and are now wearing traditional wear and spraying money.

Its virtually impossible to ban spraying money in nigeria because "it has now become part of the culture over the last 40 years" so it will still be going on "under G" or do you mean to tell me that if theres a high profile wedding and people such as nuhu ribadu, IBB, OBJ are there and there is spraying going on that any police man will dare to arrest anybody there, if he will not be sacked from the police. Let me tell you nuhu ribadu himself loves spraying and owambe!
I agree however that it should be banned and the money put to better use. But it may be impossible to stop if the lawmakers, police chiefs and yar adua himself love owambe and spraying more than anything themselves. Yar adua dosnt have money to waste if not he will be a keen advocate of spraying even though he loves it like no mans business you can even see it in his eyes (umar yaradua) that dep down to him theres nothing like a good owambe, cold gulder with pounded yam and a pocket full of naira and dollars to spray "na poor and powerless man naim dey shout foul" apparently there was spraying at yar aduas duaghters wedding!

Another justification for spraying is
1 The need to showcase their wealth for people who rose up from the slums or rural areas and made big money in the cities.
2 Unemployed pretty females who have made owambe attendance a career and means of lively hood
3 Need for people to feel known in the society and that they can compete money wise with the politicians who are stealing money
for the fact that its practiced in other countries such as US in strip clubs etc even arabs are spraying belly dancers in saudi now lol

The best solution to it is a proposed owambe tax/permit
1. The Tax will be a fixed fee, or a fee based on number of party attendees.
2 The tax will include the right to close a road for 24-48 hrs (with the exception of major express-ways) and free police protection for the party.
3 The tax will be collected by the police DPO of the area

Preach on!!! There's something called decency and until we learn that, we will still be enslaved by the poverty mentality. You can't even comapare the Dollar to the torn and mutilated new 20 Naira note (yes, that plastic note has also seen life talk less of the others). Yes, its your money and government should focus on other issues, but a small drop of water can make an ocean. Spraying is one of the issues!! Put it in an envelope or do as Pastor Okonkwo of TREM by using credit cards. Decency should be our watchword.

We ought ban Embezzlement and Misappropriation of public funds rather than spraying of notes. How does spraying of notes affect the economy negatively? Nigerian banks almost skin their marketers raw with high targets but our past and some present leaders FLOOD other economies (Swiss Bank) with excess funds stolen from our own dear Naija! HABA!

Who said spraying is our culture? were we using notes before? do we spray cowries? it is just a way of showing that 'iwo na wa ni be' not a culture. but if you say it has been there probably before I was born, then I would say, since it brings shame to the Naira, is it a crime if it is changed? KSA is being primitive,we can forgive him

God has blessed KSA with fame and wealth. God has made Nigeria to see the light that spraying the naira is disrespectful.
Now will KSA who should know best that "obedience is better than sacrifice" stop encouraging lawlessness?

trying to ban spraying is as hopeless as trying to stop as gbenga obasanjo would say "awure" or cultural family incest. or will some of you not say that these kind of practices are not going on in your own families i.e awure (free for all sex/show) all over the country there are cultural practices like this still going on!
