Hi I am English too married to an Igbo man.Well when I say I'm English,I mean that I was born in England and live here, but am of mixed parentage (jamaican/Irish and Welsh)
Our son is called Chibuike full name is Chukwubuikem (God is my strength). My husband chose the name and I am proud of it,as a  mixed race woman  living in a white country I know how important identity is. I consider myself black, and a lost African. My true name and heritage was stolen when my ancestors were taken to Jamaica and rather than feel like a victim I am re-claiming it through my children.
My husband calls me Onyinyechi (gift from God) .
Aside from names there are other aspects of raising a child that you may have to consider, for example circumcision. Our son was circumcised at 4 weeks old and although I'm glad it is done now, at the time I did feel guilty for putting him through that as culturally it was alien to me.
All the best Smiley

hi guys was looking for an igbo name i could use when i saw this thread and actually read it through.
i fell in love with kamsiyochukwu but i think i will call mine kamsiyochi. ive been looking for strong (plosive)consonants in an igbo name that isnt so common. i absoltly love my name (nneoma) but its combination  with my surname is too soft. so im looking for a lot of ks and p and ,
i love Ginika too.

Over-used Igbo female names:

Nneka
Nkechi
Ngozi
Ijeoma
Chioma
Uche

Over-use Igbo male names:
Emeka
Obinna
Uzor

No Igbo family is complete without one Nkechi, one Nneka, an at least one Emeka.  I went to a house warming an there were 12 females their named Nneka and 8 Nkechis, and it was not a large party.  I am not saying these are not nice names with deep meanings, but I would like to see some variety and creativity.  Just a thought.
