@KAMSI,
i love that name kamsiyochukwu. i once met an ill child in hospital in owerri in 2005, he had that name, i saw the child everyday before he was discharged. it was my 1st time of hearing the name, and i fell for it. i'm glad it's unisex(abi?) b/c now i know what to call my child when God gives me one(i hope my wife will accept. . . .when God gives me a wife.lol.)

WOW! This is great.

Is there a lot of Igbo names that start with the letter "D"?  What about names that start with the letter "J"?
If so please post with meaning as well.

Thanks

« #110 on: March 29, 2007, 12:05 PM »

Hi Chinani

I don't know if you've got the meaninig of the name Ejitu. If not here it is:
"Ejitu" means literally: to hold a while. This could be a form of "Ejituruchukwu" - holding a while for God - referring to God as the source of life. Hence keeping, holding, taking care of this life - the child - for a while before God takes it back. Such a name can arise from a situation where the parents have lost one or more children before.
A similar name but with a different reference is: "Njikwiilimonwu", Ejituruonwu" meaning "may I hold this (child) for a while for death.

The above meaning applies if the emphasis is laid on the three syllables: É-jí-tú.

If the emphasis is on the first two syllables (É-jí-tu) with the Ejitu as a name on its own, then it could mean: (Someone) Indomitable, impossible to hold.

I hope this is of help to you.

Althea
