Dear Nairalanders, A female friend of mine had a road traffic accident since 2004 and sustained fractures on her hips and left arm. She has undergone several treatments both medically and traditionally in Naija and yet no remedy to her situation. She is is dying need of a hip replacement surgery abroad and needs help on competent doctors that can stop the trauma and pains she has been passing through since 2004. This accident led to the withdrawal of her job but her parents are ready to spend their last cent to make sure their daughter regains her health.
I would appreciate suggestions are to where she can be referred to by her doctor and if possible where the medical bill will be considerate.
Thank you all and God bless,

Its been four years since the accident,
I hope there hasn't been any other serious truma to the fracture,
or to the surrounding tissue,
I know there are many competent Surgeons in Nigeria,
Why no try the nearest teaching Hospital,
because the cost of trying to fly her out will be excessive.
The most important thing is trying to restore her health.
I will keep her in my prayers.

I know a Nigerian who just passed away right around Xmas with this same problem. After many surgeries too from a motor vehicle accident too. Her bones got infected and it got into her blood. It took 4 years too. @poster Sorry you are going through this. I wish you luck in your search. There are many places to get treatment abroad and none of them will be reasonable as long as this lady does not have medical insurance. Even the highly subsidized county hospitals have a lot of red tape for fast tracking her case. Please find any relative who is a doctor abroad to see if they can refer you to any. I do not know if she can get a medical visa in her condition. Time is of the essence before this lady loses her life. Once again, goodluck.

Firstly, I thank u for your care and prayers. I doubt and hope there are other complications since then. As for many competent doctors in naija, i agree with you. She has been to uniben teaching hospital and was billed N850,000. UniMaid Teaching hospital couldnt help her while National Orthopaedic hospital, Enugu said they don't have the right equipment to handle the surgery. A private hospital @ Lagos billed her N1,080,000. So considering the amounts involved and there is the possibility of the surgery failing, we all feel better flying her abroad where atleast the healing process can be guaranteed. We know the bill will be high, but it's better spending a little bit more and getting a sure positive result.

Thank u so much for your reply. we are estimating the bill will be round about $8,000. Every member of her family, friends and well wishers are willing to donate towards her recovery, so all she needs is a doctor to analyse her xrays and medical report, then send us an estimate of the bill. With God all things are possible, can u imagine a 25yrs old girl wallowing in anguish. Thank u all and remain blessed.

Please why don't you go to any of these threads here where you have a lot of doctors to see if they can further assist you. I think that bill will be more than $8000. Did you include physical therapy after surgery? The doctors over here do more that just analyze Xrays and past histories. They will want to start all over again and get their own data base, just incase they missed something in Naija over there. And for litigation purposes too. The tests alone can triple $8000 without medical insurance. Then again, going to subsidized county hospitals can take forever to get treatment. This is a very difficult situation. I am sorry I can't do more. I am truly sorry. Gosh! 25 years old.

You are quite welcome, I quite agree with the final decision to fly her abroad, to perform the much needed surgery once and for all. If the funds are available why not, At least everyone will be rest assured that she will be properly taken care of, and continue to live the rest of her life in good health. Take care.

DaJunta, She is in our prayers. Try and read this link. Americans are now running to India for Hip Replacement Surgery, because it is cheaper in India than the US. They also have good Surgeons too. Hope she gets well quickly. "PRAYERS" http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/03/10/230503.php
