It is often believed that Benue women are offered to visitors as ''Kola''. Is this one helluva culture that might well explain why Benue has the highest HIV/AIDS incidence in Nigeria?

I've heard about this tradition a long ago. Is it really true? People from Benue should confirm this now or forever keep their mouths shut!

Thank God a Benue wife has spoken. That was a horrible tradition I might add. The things our ancestors did. killing twins, throwing people in the "evil" forest, offering their wives as kola Lord have mercy!

I wish am from Benue and married to a particular poster on this thread, although all that could only and only be on a wish list now. I would have offered her to my friends, enemies, visitors and strangers. All to make sure she spends more time in the bedroom rather than on Nairaland.

abeg no be good thing. All nations/tribes/countries/races have questionable behaviors they did in the past, out of ignorance or whatever. What I heard when I visited Benue was that sometimes the woman offered could be really old as in her seventies and wrinkled. So all the people salivating at the thought of nacking someone's pretty young wife should wake up and smell the coffee. The grass is always greener on the other side. Sometimes its when people (not necessarily Benue) want to kill you or use your life fluid that you get such "gifts". Isnt the New York governor lamenting his own, now. Anyway, its just a rumor. I heard eskimos also have a tradition of offering their wives to guests. If at all its done in benue, must have been centuries ago or something and probably stopped by now.

The culture was reserved for other tribes married to Benue men but unfortunately it has been stopped. We hope other tribes will borrow a leaf from the Benue people and stop their own heinous crimes that are committed on their women like washing dead body of the husband for the wife to drink or the Osu issue to name a few
