Men, thats my prayer oh. I bet my last kobo: if Barca make it to semis and Messi, Etoo and DINHO are fit, ManU is  , oh sooo dead.

But I just feel its C.Ronaldo's year. He has the Premiership, Champions League AND Eurocup to shine in. In the FIFA award visibility is everything. Like I said before, I don't know why I don't like him (maybe because he plays for ManU ), but he's a great player.

Ya i know he's a great player but the Award can't go to a Premier League Player

Messi has a great chance of winnning. However, its going to be a tight contest between him and C. Ronaldo. C.Ronaldo has been outstanding this season.

Can anyone tell me how messi is going to win the best footballer of the year award without being biased?I like both players but for heaven's sake b fcuking real!!!!! messi hasnt scored as much as CR7,messi's team is in shambles except he miraculosly recovers and does magically well which is next to impossible for them to overhaul real madird.again,CR7 has euro 2008 to further his claim on that front,and acoording to polls right now for the european footballer of the year,its actually CR7,fabregas then Messi followed by torres and totti.So being a fan of a club doesn't mean u guys should just spew rubbish,give it to the guy nobody has done/played better this year than he has,everyone says he doesnt assist and how manyy assist does messi have?and please be objective,give reasons why messi should  get it instead of ronaldo.

The Euro cup would decide who wins the award. with Messi's injury blighted season his claims to the award has been reduced. But Remember Ronaldo Lima injured throughout the year  played 4 weeks of world cup in 2002 and won all the awards available

I don't understand what you're sayin here>.When did goals become a criteria to judge world footballer??How many goals did Canna score when he won it.

And what polls r u referring to??The ones being voted for by u and me or the one that the qualified coaches will vote for for the award proper.Taking nothin away from C.Ronaldo,he has had a fantastic season and given,poor form of ROnaldinho and Kaka and Messi's injury blighted season, he's looking good to win it especially if he can cap it up with a wonderful performance in Euro 2008

@hustler

Cannavaro won the award because italy won the world cup.world cup years are different,whoeva perfoms best wins it,check through the years if you like.
And YES goals are criterias for forwards to wins the award,give me an example of a forward who didnt score yet won the award and I'll give you plenty who did:george weah,rivaldo,ronaldo da lima,figo etc list is endless.
The polls are definitely not from me and you but from UEFA,meaning its by european coaches for now and will continue through the champiosn league and euro champoinship,So there is nothing that'll stop him from winning it unless he automatically caves in.

@Pein

I thot u were hinging your argument on the fact that Messi having not scored higher than ROnaldo did not deserve it. Figo,Ronaldinho,Kaka have never been highest goal scorers when they won it. Even Zidane

So being high up the goal scoring charts is not a necessity but your overall contribution to your team's success.

when figo won it in 2000 he was the highest scoring winger in la-liga with the highest assists as well,real also won the champions league, zidane also won the champions league for real with his perfomances same with kaka(who won it because of the champions league).united will definitely win the EPL,more points to ronaldo because he'll be the EPL player of the year and EPL topscorer, barring any magic united and barca will meet in the semis.ronaldo is already the topscorer inthe champions league and messi is out for six weeks,dnt think he'll be back before then and even if he is dnt think he'll be rushed and no league title for barca,again points for ronaldo.euro 2008=no messi,points for ronaldo again.add to the fact that he's the highest goals scorer in europe,probably the world what chance does anyone have?
Roanldo contributes to his team as well as score which messi does to a level but not to ronaldo's standard this season!thats all im saying.

C. Ronaldo is a nice player no doubt about that but if he happens to win the award, its due to Messi's injury and if i can remind u all messi should be back latest before our final (against Liverpool). Never its meant for the EPL.

Isn't that what great footballers do?get goals out of nothing even though u play badly.Oh so cus messi dribbles his way into injury he should be crowned worlds best.what "big" game has messi performed this season.he was no where against madrid,villareal or even valencia yet CR7 scored against arsenal,liverpool,roma and has kept scoring so what do you want from him?!

In the 1999/2000 season when Real Madrid won the UCL Figo was in Barca. Real won the UCL in 2000 but they were not in top 4 in the La Liga.
Figo joined Real in 2000/2001. In his first season they won the league but lost out to Bayern Munich in the UCL semi finals.

Real Madrid have never won the La Liga and UCL double in the same year.

 luis figo played for barca till 2000/01,then went to real and won the league title tho not the UCL like i said earlier - got to the semis.i watch football in general,way more tha u do and i can be forgiven for makin a mistake because its the spanish league and qute frankly i cud give a rats arse bout it!and dnt deviate from the topic,we are talking bout messi and ronaldo,so give facts that support your claim for messi to be top player come years end not bashing a league you can't believe has gone past the one you support in terms of everything.10 years ago the seria A was touted as the best why?cus they basically did what the english game is doin now,getting foreigners into their league and when the english do it,its a crime?A league being better than another is basically objective and based on the performances of their respective teams in the UCL,so you can sing all day bout how the spanish primera trounces all but everyone knows right now which is better.

Figo started his career at Sporting Clube de Portugal. He won his first senior international cap in 1991. Prior to that, he won the Under-20 World Championships and Under-16 European Championships with Portugal junior sides, alongside Rui Costa, João Vieira Pinto and a significant part of his nation's so-called 'Golden Generation'.

[edit] FC Barcelona

In 1995, Figo looked poised to join one of the big clubs of Europe, but a dispute between Italian clubs Juventus F.C. and Parma, with Figo having signed contracts with both clubs, resulted in an Italian 2-year transfer ban on Figo, effectively stopping any moves to Italy. However, the situation was eventually resolved for Figo, with a move to Spanish club FC Barcelona, under coach Johan Cruijff, and within four years he became a fan-favourite, captain and symbol of the Spanish side.

It was with FC Barcelona from 1995 that his career really took off: Figo won a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996–97, successive Primera División titles and went on to appear 172 times for the Blaugrana, scoring 30 goals. Figo was able to garner many plaudits while at the Nou Camp, such as Sir Alex Ferguson, who it has been later claimed almost brought him to Manchester United before Euro 2000 in a swap deal with David Beckham.

[edit] Real Madrid

In 2000 came his controversial, world-record transfer to rivals Real Madrid, which only intensified the great animosity between the two clubs. The move caused outrage among Barcelona fans and many others baulked at the €65M fee. Yet Figo justified the investment by helping Madrid to the Primera División title and UEFA Champions League semi-finals as well as winning the FIFA World Footballer of the Year award. In 2001–02, he went one better, playing through injury against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League final as Madrid prevailed 2-1. Figo also occupied a major role as Madrid won the 2003 Spanish title, scoring ten times. The success made up for the disappointment of a Champions League semi-final loss to Juventus, but the next season, despite Figo's nine league goals, Madrid finished fourth and lost in the Champions League last eight and Copa del Rey final. He went from being one of the most cherished players in Catalonia to being the most hated. There was a short-lived website, AntiFigo.com, devoted to insulting "Judas Figo".

Getting your facts right before coming out is an important thing.  Figo left Barca in summer 2000

in 2000/2001 Figo was in the Real team that was eliminated by Bayern in the UCL. It was Zidane that joined in the begining of 2001/2002 season. This is public knowledge. Factual disagreement can be cleared easily just search the internet.

On 21 October 2000 he returned to Camp Nou for the first time in a Real Madrid shirt.

I think the determining factor in winning the FIFA player of the year award is Titles. The higher the title, the greater your chances.

Often, the outstanding player in the team that wins the major tournament in a given year, takes it. Hence Cannavaro in 2007, just after the world cup. Earlier there had been shouts about defenders not winning it. It was partially "political". Fair play to Cannavaro, he had an incredible tournament.

This year it has to be C. Ronaldo. He's been simply great in Manchester United. and they are going to take the prem. Its true that Barca will trash them in the semis of the UCL Grin but he's been great till now and will shine in the Eurocup. For Sure.

I used to think that Messi was heads and heels above him, but fan of Messi that I am, I'm beginning to have doubts. Ronaldo is showing that he's much more than fancy leg overs. He's improving before our very eyes and will likely improve even more.

@deola1
I hate the premiership but I think we'll just give it to one of their players this year. They've been crybabys till now. At least its not an Englishman  Grin Grin
