Re: Ubuntu Linux
« #448 on: July 15, 2007, 09:55 AM »

afo i finally had to reformat my vista os partition, what i did was to delet the ubuntu partition, then insert my vista cd  and booted from it i then when on to format the os partition which was 93gb, (already have to extra partitions for storage 45gb and 9gb)so when the reinstallation of vista was complete.i then when on to create a new partition for ubuntu about 35gb in sive out of the 93gb .som my patition table is like
this

vista-57gb
ubuntu-37 gb
data storage-45 gb
application storage-9gb

i now intend on installing the ubuntu ultimate cd that i just downloaded , but am still checking the net for any bugs that have been deiscovered in the UU 1.4 so that i don just go bashing to it, also considering waiting to see if the dvd edition comes out on time maybe i might download it who knows , whats your take,

Hello guys can anybody help with this? I have a PCMCIA GPRS Modem from Billionton, which i use to browse with my Glo sim card in Windows. I need a linux driver for it, because it seems not to be recognized.

I am using Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 on a Toshiba Tecra TE2300 laptop.

Esquire this is for u

Bluetooth GPRS Dialup on Feisty Fawn

Stuff involved:
Bluez-gnome, gnome-bluetooth, gnome-ppp with all their dependencies.
Sony Ericsson K618i
Billionton Bluetooth dongle
This is how i did it:
Install Bluez-gnome, gnome-bluetooth and gnome-ppp
Reboot
Plug the dongle to the PC, BT logo will show up on top right of the PC screen.
Right click it and set to "visible and connectable blah blah" and close.
Turn on bluetooth on SE K618i, search for new device (in my device menu). Add it and make up some numeric code, push ok.
The PC will pop a question give it the same code. Click ok and they will be paired.
Find out the MAC Address of the phone, in the terminal type "hcitool scan". I get 00:1B:59:11:13:53 as the MAC Address of the cell phone.
Find out the the Dial-up networking protocol descriptor in the phone by entering sdptool browse 00:1B:59:11:13:53 in the terminal. I found that it is on channel 2.
Edit the rfcomm configuration. Enter in terminal:
sudo gedit /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf
Make the necessary edit on rfcomm0, set bind to yes, change the MAC address and the channel, remove the #, save.
Bind to rfcomm0: in the terminal enter:
sudo rfcomm bind rfcomm0
Load gnome-ppp, insert username, pass and dial number from ISP. click setup and put /dev/rfcomm0 as the device.
Connect.
Connected, but always get disconnected after about 2 seconds?
Maybe it is the first time for your Feisty to connect via dialup. Go to system > administration > network. Click properties for the modem. Tick "enable this connection, Insert dial number, user and pass, set the modem to /dev/rfcomm0 and try it again.

u're making a mistake somewhere cause its an iso and its supposed to burn it to the dvd its a single iso when properly burnt then you can see the other files. post a screen shot

No, my card is a GPRS Modem: it has a slot where you put the sim card is so u don't need to connect it to any phone. My prob is, when the card is inserted a driver is supposed to be loaded and a file ttyS0 created in /dev, but it doesnt! It just tells me "pcmcia card inserted" in dmesg, nothing else.

u were suppossed to burn only the iso not the rest of the files just the ubuntu christmas. All those other files are just stuff that u can try out later after you've installed ubuntu eg themes games etc. Burn the iso alone and not the other files. okay

@mendax well if you want to learn something you don't go ahead and call it crap. Yes i understand that you don't know what it means but please mind your language here. This is a thread meant for solving linux questions and those stuff you called crap are just outputs of a particular command
