Esquire no wayo. . .
adewaleafolabi, use the cdc_acm module to connect your phone. It should create a device for it, i.e. /dev/ttyACM0.

Chxta's WorldI knew that the open source community can't fail me, and they never do. Sound problem solved, and an up to speed distro to the bargain. What I did? In my terminal, I ran: gksu “update-manager -c -d”Waited for 28 minutes while it upgraded the distro, and voila. I'm runnning Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft with crystal clear sound! For the support I have to thank The HowTo Geek. Warning: this process works only with a fast internet connection. If you don't have that, order a CD. . .

Hey Guys
Doing nice work here. To connect ubuntu to internet using your mobile phone is easy. Ubuntu can hotspot usb devices. Let me just run through the step here. first open a terminal and type in this.
sudo tail -f /var/log/messages This is to enable you view the log sort of monitoring
Next, connect the phone to you system, check the open terminal to ensure, the phone was detected. Now type in the command in a new terminal window.
sudo wvdialconf
Your phone modem, should detected by your system. Take note of the point the modem is mounted, should look like /dev/ttyACM0 and the speed. From here the modem is setup, you can use any of the ppp config tools to set up the connect. The easiest to to me is the pppconfig. type sudo pppconfig and follow the instruction, fill in the fields and run sudo pon <connection-provider>. to log off use sudo poff <connection-provider>
any other problems, please post.

Before I install Ubuntu, I'd like to know if there's a way I can convert. .exe files to Linux format. I have a lot of .exe set up files (about 600 to be precise) and I can't imagine saying bye to them just like that as almost all the software I come across are in the .exe format. Also can Visual Basic 6 & .NET work on it?

@Christino
Hey brother you don't to say good bye to your .exe files. All you need to is install window emulator for Linux, alot out there but most people use wine. I do use it too.

@Christino If you hava internet Connection, open the Synaptic Package Manager, click on search icon and type wine, you should see two wine packages, select wine and mark for install. Then apply for the app to be downloaded and install on your system. Next just do wine <your.exe> Good to go or you can use the apt-get to install it, just follow these steps Add wine repository to your source list
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Add these two lines to the source list
deb http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt dapper main deb-src http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt dapper main
Use you apt-get as follows
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install wine
See also http://www.winehq.com/ http://www.win4lin.com/ Any problem, just post.

Yeah, gmaes are bad under Wine. I'd recommend running a Windows emulation. Try VMware. . .

Hi,
Ok, i don't really play games, but wine supports most of window games, for a better performance, it better to install the games using wine. It will run the installer and place a short cut in the start up menu, under wine. Ok, look at some demo.

For games, I really would recommend running VMware. Same way I recommend that software to people who want to try out Linux first before switching from Window$. To install VMware, go to www.vmware.com and download the vmware workstation. You have to register. Here are the steps: 1. Download the kernel headers via apt-get for your currently running kernel. Or find out by typing $ uname -r2. Next you need to untar the compressed tar archive so: $ tar zxf Vmware-workstation3. Once that has completed: $ cd vmware-distrib/4. Next run the installer: $ ./vmware-install.pl5. Answer the questions and proceed, eventually it will ask you if you have a C++ compiler so before run the installer be sure that you have gcc installed, so it can compile the modules for your system. Now the installation should have completed, to start vmware type in vmware at a shell prompt. Another thing you might want to do is check your email for the serial number so you can create a virtual machine, otherwise you won't have any fun with this.

@ Mimoh & Co.
Thanks all for your input, meanwhile,
Can you guarantee that macromedia suite (incl coldfusion & Co) will work on Ubuntu? what about MS Office, any support for it?

@ Christino
Why do want to hang on to MS office, the open office on linux is even more powerful than MS Office. It allows you to save your documents in almost any format including .doc. You can easily migrate your office documents to it. Well, MS Office can be used in linux through the emulators.
@ adewaleafolabi
Just copy your log message, so that i can know where thing went gaga!!. to view your log message just do run this command in a new terminal.
sudo tail -f /var/log/messages

Downloaded Vmware and installed it. But, my finding is that I can't access my windows programms, may be I will have to install the window XP through the VM.
@ adewaleafolabi No problem, will check it later during the day.
