3G is the 3rd generation platform for mobile services. It delivers much faster speeds and is more robust than basic GSM or GPRS. The PTOs running CDMA are basically operating on a 3G platform in a limited sense. Recently, Starcomms launched an EVDO service, a truly 3G platform. Vmobile has also announced that it has set up 3G (UMTS) in 3 major cities: Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt. they claim to be test-running it at the moment. more info at http://yomi.domainstandard.net/mobile_web/vmobile_3g_ready/
