3G is the 3rd generation platform for mobile services. It delivers much faster speeds and is more robust than basic GSM or GPRS. The PTOs running CDMA are basically operating on a 3G platform in a limited sense. Recently, Starcomms launched an EVDO service, a truly 3G platform.
