IF you havent heard, well there is a genocide happenning right now in Sudanwe saw it happened in Rwanda, cambodia, bosnia now is in sudanwhere more than 400,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million have been displaced. The ongoing genocide in the Darfur region of western Sudan, which has continued since 2003, is fueled primarily by the Janjaweed, a government-supported militia recruited from local Arab tribes. The genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people. More than one hundred people continue to die each day; five thousand die every month. About the size of Texas, the Darfur region is home to racially mixed tribes of settled peasants, who identify as African, and nomadic herders, who identify as Arab. The majority of people in both groups are Muslim. Government neglect has left people throughout Sudan poor and voiceless and has caused conflict throughout the country. In February 2003, frustrated by poverty and neglect, two Darfurian rebel groups launched an uprising against the Khartoum government. The government responded with a scorched-earth campaign, enlisting the help of a militia of Arab nomadic tribes in the region against the innocent civilians of Darfur. here is a reason why Africa will not move forward we are our own enemies!!!!until we realize that we would always be left backwards It is very sad to me what is happening in Sudan right nowHere is how we can alll help, if you want to help make a difference in our brothers and sisters lives in sudan go to this web site:http://www.savedarfur.org/ http://www.genocideintervention.netto watch a short video about the genocide http://www.genocideintervention.net/educate/darfurinfo/intromovie.swfWE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE, HELP IN ANYWAY YOU CAN!!!! Thank you for keeping the campaign against genocide in Dafur alive. We need to show more interest in African affairs. At least speaking out against atrocities as happening in Dafur.

It's white Africans killing black Africans. Arab on black racism is the worst i've encountered to date. In Mauretania and Sudan, they still hold blacks as slaves. Why don't you inform yourself before making inappropriate statements.

That's why I like Eddy Tells so much Always ready for a verbal fight That issue may be less relevant to you in Nigeria, but to all these in the diaspora it's anything but irrelevant. Your insensitivity to their feelings doesn't reflect too good on you.

There are real issues we should be concerned. The "Arab" African warped idea of superiority and right to rule over black Africans is real, even in our own backyard (Fulanis). This has always been the underlying factor behind a lot of wars in Africa. The Hutus and Tutsis of Rwanda ought to be a constant reminder of the consequences of inaction.

PLs can anyone tell me what is perculiar to arabs that makes them so violent All human races have been guilty of vices and atrocities at different times but what is common to arabs that make them 1) look upon blacks as less than human 2) europeans as infidels that deserve to be suicide-bombed 3) women as less than human 4) any political issue as an attack on their religion

Over four Nigerian soldiers in the African Union (AU) Peace Keeping Force have been killed in Darfur. They were not killed by the Arabs. The black Sudanese rebels killed them. Arabs are not as bad as the Western world paints them. Most Arabs are humane. For more on the latest on Darfur, see Jay McGinley's STAND WITH DARFUR on http://standwithdarfurwhitehouse(dot)blogspot(dot)com and Toniyah Tonijah's The DARFUR Blog on http://thedarfurblog(dot)blogspot(dot)com. An eye witness in the war zone of Darfur who visits Nairaland sends me daily reports on Darfur.

Tampa Bay teenagers getting passionate about Darfur and raising awareness and money to help save my friends. These teens have banded together to host a benefit concert on July 9. It is called the Sudan Relief Jam and is going to be an awesome eight-hour concert event featuring all sorts of different music. They are just getting started, but have already organized, rounded up sponsors, and are working hard at getting an official t-shirt made, TicketMaster account set up and spreading the word. Where: Skipper's Smokehouse - Phone: (813) 971-0666 When: July 9th from 2:00pm - 10:00pm How much: $15.00 in advance/$20.00 at the door http://dyinginthedust(dot)blogspot(dot)com/I will post as much information about this event as I can, but you can also check out their website: www.sudanreliefjam.org. I believe strongly in what they are trying to accomplish and know firsthand the difficulty of motivating people to care about anything, much less Africa.

Dear fellow members of Nairaland, Darfurians are losing hope. Promised a better future with the May peace agreement, they’ve only seen more violence. But you can make a difference by taking action today. Our concerns about the continued killings in Darfur have been deepened by unfortunate news on the home front: two US. officials who have shaped our nation’s leadership role on the crisis in Sudan are leaving government service. The engagement of Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick and the President’s special adviser Michael Gerson sent a strong message – to Khartoum and the world – that Darfur is a priority of the Bush Administration. Will you join us in urging President Bush to immediately fill this gap by appointing an influential and high-level official to coordinate the US. response to the Darfur crisis? Click here to ensure that Darfur remains a priority for President Bush. http://action.humanrightsfirst.org/campaign/dont_forget/iudngn62yj7ei6t?Already, the departure of these two US. officials is being felt. Just when pressure from the US. is more important than ever, the US. government is not playing the critical role on Darfur that it has for the past several months. A high-level official would take up where Mr. Zoellick and Mr. Gerson left off – expressing the will of the President and showing the resolve of the US. government to end the crisis. We should be clear: Human Rights First is still calling on Secretary-General Annan to appoint a UN. Special Envoy for Peace in Darfur. We believe the best hope for peace is a coordinated international response – an effort led by a UN. envoy. But this envoy needs influential contacts within the world’s most powerful governments – especially the United States. Tell President Bush to immediately appoint a senior-level official to fill the gap left by recent departures. http://action.humanrightsfirst.org/campaign/dont_forget/iudngn62yj7ei6t?At this critical juncture, your voice will make a difference! Thank you so much for helping us address this human rights tragedy. Yours faithfully, Orikinla Osinachi For Jill Savitt Director of Campaigns Human Rights First
