Onyema Ugochukwu replaces T.A. Orji In Abia State after the election tribunal today. With all the evidences against T.A. Orji(the time he was in the shrine, etc),he successfully replaced him. I wonder what would have happened if after spending much money in tribunal even the ones he borrowed and did nt win. New government sets for Abia State

The Abia State Election Petitions Tribunal today in Umuahia nullified the election of the state governor,Mr Theodore Orji. Delivering the judgement, the tribunal chairman, Justice Abdullahi Yusuf said Mr Orji was not the duly elected governor of the state since he did not resign his appointment at the time of the election. Orji who was returned governor under the Progressive Peoples Party(PPA) was the Chief of Staff to governor Orji Uzor Kalu, the immediate past governor of Abia State. The seven-man panel consequently declared Ugochukwu the winner of the poll. Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) candidate in the April 14 poll,Onyeama Ugochukwu had asked the tribunal to void the election of Orji because he (Ugochukwu) polled the highest number of votes in the election. He also told the tribunal that orji and his deputy,Mr Akwos were members of a notorious secret cult, the Okija Shrine. http://www.leadershipnigeria.com/product_info.php?products_id=23038Double wahala for Abia people. What's the difference between Orji and Ugochukwu? Former gov. Orji Kalu was a fool for not seeing all these coming. That is how far illitracy can take you.

I cannot see what his membership of the Okija shrine has to do with him being a Governor. African traditional religion is still a legal eligion in Nigeria, so why hound him for this?
Or is there something i'm missing?

@ Texxazpete, According to the Leadership story posted above, the election was overturned because he didn't resign as Chief of Staff to the previous governor, Orji Kalu. However, I've seen another report on the internet claiming the election was overturned because he failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he is not a member of a notorious cult that operates out of the infamous Orkija shrine. I agree with you that his membership of Orkija should not be a tangible reason to nullify the election. It is his fundamental human right to worship whatever, in any mode he chooses. Or could it be that the decree of the Murtala/Obasanjo regime banning all public office holders from being members of a cult has been incorporated into the constitution? Nevertheless, it can still be argued that Orkija is a religion/traditional faith system and not a cult. It would be interesting to see how the 'wayoman' Orji Kalu would react to this. If the judgement hinges on his failure to resign, there are only two options, they either produce a resignation letter and the case collapses or no letter and the judgement stands. By the way, if he didn't resign at the appropriate time (before the election), there will be no point in manufacturing a resignation letter as the world is awash with technologies that can confirm/pinpoit the date any document was written.

The truth remains that whether Orji rules Abia or not, Onyema Ugochukwu is the worst among the two. Ugochukwu was a total failure when he was the NDDC chairman, likewise other appointments under evil government of 1999 - 2007. I am indeed sympathetic to the good and lovely people of Abia. There will e nothing good that will surely come out of Onyema Ugochukwu.

Orji Kalu, couldn't have envisaged this because of his high level of illiteracy. But how come Theodore himself did not understand that he should have resigned before d elections. In any case, justice has been done though I do not trust Onyema Ugochukwu as he is OBJ's man. Onyema Ugochukwu was a dead man at NDDC, come to think of it, how did he even make his money to go into d race?

@ Enconium and Emmydee, I feel like crying for this country. My home state, Osun is in a similar quandry. The incumbent governor is a clueless and incompetent OBJ man. Some parts of the state capital are experiencing acute water shortage since 2004, uncompleted roads now turning to gullies, unpaid pensioners and the list goes on. Although 11 members of 26 member state house of reps are from AC the opposition party, they seem content with the state of affairs. They haven't raised a single motion asking the executive to justify previous budgets on roads, water supply etc. Even if Oyinlola's election is nullified it would just be a case of same song, different musician.

Though not given to an arrogant display of intellectualism, his acuity is immeasurably perplexing. This is manifest in the deftness and adumbration with which he has accurately forecasted major events. No wonder some believe that he became a governor by a combination of adroit diplomacy and sheer good luck. He went through his academic career diligently and was at various times at Christ the King School, Aba for his primary education, Eziama High School, Aba; Government College, Umuahia; University of Maiduguri; Harvard University Graduate Business School (AMP 153) Boston, USA and Abia State University.
He holds a B.Sc. degree in Political Science of the Abia State University, Uturu, IEA Certificate by USAID, honorary doctorate degrees in Law by the University of Port Harcourt and Abia State University, Uturu, and City State University, Los Angeles, USA
And why are some people calling him illiterate

Ho- Ha! We cannot support a government hearded by Onyema Ugochukwu, because he did not win the election that even the tribunal agreed was free and fair and won by TA Orji. Truth remains that Orji is more popular, more decent, humane, and selfless than Onyema. Onyema was a product of OBJ's self-styled leadership which hinged on personal vendetta that saw TA Orji incarcerated for long months leading to the guber elections. shame on Onyema who is coming to reap where he did not sow. OBJ was in Abia 2ce to campaign yet his party could not win a free and fair election.
may the Appeal court upturn this verdict. Amen
